About

The year is 198X, and you're a jobbing composer. You start out with nothing but a toy keyboard shaped like a tiger, and a brand new sequence-o-matic 4-track that your uncle bought from a shady geezer in the pub.
Word quickly spreads about the new producer on the block, and soon the commissions are rolling in. Things start humble, recording tracks for weddings, workout videos and corporate presentations, but before long you're getting asked to score fantasy movies, museum openings, and all kinds of crazy stuff.
Of course, you'll have to upgrade your kit along the way. Turns out, the local second-hand magazine is a treasure trove of objects that make interesting sounds, from singing garden gnomes and shredders-that-shred-sound-as-well-as-paper, to high-end synthesisers and musical effects. By the end, you'll have figured out a sound that's all your own.

But OFFBEAT isn't just a game. All the musical instruments are fully simulated, and the music you're recording is real. The game is secretly a complete audio production tool. Every piece of music you create in the game gets exported and saved locally on your computer as a WAV file, which you can use for whatever you want.
Music production can be costly and complex to get into, especially for beginners. We created OFFBEAT to lower barrier to entry and to offer a playful, low-pressure way to learn the basics of audio producion. The goal is just to be expressive and experimental, but by the end you'll have learned a little about synthesizers, sound design, composition and recording. Our hope is that when the game's finished, you'll have the confidence and expertise to carry on composing and recording music.

Wow, I don't even know where to begin! I saw this youtuber (MRIZ) play the game and said it teaches you how to produce music. And I am starting a bachelor about making games and creative media. The bachelor includes this expensive software that looks like FL studio. Besides the jaw dropping price, I can't make instrumental music at all. I like to sing and tried things like bandlab and or garageband and I suck. So when I saw this video, I was like sure I will download the demo. My brain and mouse were working magically together to make some sick ass beats and melodies and wow. The gamefication of making music really just helped me. (then I bought it + the DLC's) Thats why I love this game, I wish when I make my games it will be something you can learn from. This game really is an inspiration. Can't wait for the updates! I hope I can use one of the things I made for my own game. And if the maker(s) read this, Thank you genuinely so much for this. It really gave me hope in myself and in games.

good fun
its so good, perfect introduction into music production with a cute art style. worth every cent. cant wait until this is a fully fledged music production software eye to eye with FL or the like.
Muy divertido y totalmente recomendable para adentrarte en el mundo de la composición musical. En su estado actual ya lo puedes usar como un DAW básico pero intuitivo. Tengo ganas de ver todo el contenido una vez esté terminado.

Great intro into production and music theory!
Yeah Fl studio finally got some real competitors. this is now my DAW of choice
TL;DR - A must-grab for anyone even vaguely curious about messing around with music. You cannot beat the value-for-money proposition here already, and with the roadmap looking like it does? It's only going to get juicier with time. OFFBEAT is a music synthesis suite disguised as / fused with a game, and it doesn't let down either side. It's not a full modsynth setup or anything, but it's absolutely enough to get you started and have a lot of fun right out the gate even if you've got 0 musical knowledge or experience. I play percussion instruments very sporadically, and only very amateurly; even with zero ability to read composed works I can still get good jam out of this! The aesthetics are good, the vibes are immaculate, it's a living breathing bop machine. A+ no notes. Well actually lots of notes, but... you know what I mean. :V
