About

45+ hours of main story, packed with dialogue, well-developed characters, books, and side quests.
Two major factions to choose from — each with its own unique storyline, quests, and exclusive rewards.
Combat system features three distinct battle stances, multiple weapon types, and active skills.
A vibrant, open-world island with diverse biomes to explore.
A wide range of professions to master, including fishing, hunting, blacksmithing (with the ability to craft your own one-of-a-kind sword), alchemy, and more.

Of Ash and Steel offers a challenging yet rewarding combat system. You are not a legendary bounty hunter or monster slayer by default. Instead, you must master the mechanics: manage stamina, time your attacks and parries, and determine which combat stances and weapon types suit you best. It takes time and practice, but the more you play, the more both you and Tristan evolve and gain an understanding of what is happening around you.
Learn to stand up for yourself using different weapons, environments, and active skills. Tailor your fighting style to suit you, from the agile rapier wielder to a heavy armour-clad knight, or create something unique!

Immerse yourself in a story full of twists, humor, and discoveries. Step into the shoes of a man who is destined to become much more than just a cartographer. Gain strength, survive, and forge alliances. Prove that even someone who has lost everything can become a significant force that can shape the fate of the whole world.
Talk to locals to learn about their daily lives, and help them with tasks. Watch how people’s opinions of you change as your character grows. Join one of the two major factions and complete its unique storyline to earn exclusive rewards. Your actions and choices will also affect the world and the characters around you.

Of Ash and Steel has no marker system, and quests won't lead you by the hand. Rediscover the joy of exploration and let curiosity be your guide; the world promises rich rewards for those who dare to uncover its secrets.
Listen carefully to what people tell you and pay attention to what is said in the quests to find your way. Read books and notes to learn more about the world. Mark interesting locations on your map, explore the island, and uncover hidden treasures!

Having played and not finished Gothic, finding it too frustrating in too many places, I think this game is a better version of the attempted remake, as an actual remake of the original Gothic formula. So far it feels very similar in its backbone, but its presentation is completely new and not redundant. The people are less abrasive, but not unreasonably so. They're in a similar situation, kind of, and so they're like people who would be in that awful situation. The character animations are not very good, but the voice acting, I think, makes up for it all. The combat is satisfying with all edges and collisions feeling right. The weight of the weapons feels right. The stamina drain affecting your swing feels right. It also lets you not focus on a bar, by incorporating the loss of stamina into your action. This should be an industry standard in the future and this team deserves special mention for successfully deploying that. The world is laid out well. Everything seems personalized, considered and made for the character to whom it belongs. Things are in places that makes sense. The world is confusing as hell to navigate but cuts into itself in so many ways I found myself lost and found over and over again, which is great. The enemies are difficult and progress is slow. No map so far in 12 hours for me. I'm sure there's one somewhere but navigating this world requires memorization of everything, including character names and their locations, and their stock. It's not easy, but rewarding for sure. Completing quests, for me, as been secondary to surviving and attempting to grow in "power", which for me so far is getting self-protection and some finances. At 12 hours in I'm still dirt poor, but the you can legit dodge/parry souls-like style so sometimes you just gotta pretend that level 1 insect is Radahn and take your time. You level pretty consistently from combat, given what you can survive so across the 12 levels I havent ever felt stuck. When I need more xp I can't get easily through quests (some are hard to figure out, items are hard to find, they don't shine a beacon at anythign in this game) I'll wander off the paths I've beaten, slightly more each time, fighting that enemy I tried fighting earlier but ran away from mid-combat realizing I was underleveled. This rinse and repeat formula means you can treat this game like Elden Ring, simply going around to collect xp to fight bigger and bigger enemies, get better gear and level up. But then there's KCD2 level quests, crafting, RPG progression and a world that keeps you invested in any area you're in, because there's always somewhere new to look, someone new to talk to, or puzzle in the area you've been trying to figure out for some time. I really wanted to look up things during this game but don't. It is a grind, it is, but it doesn't feel like it. It genuinely feels like the game I wanted Gothic to be the whole time I was playing it.

Every market we collect.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 3.71/day in the week to Aug 6 → 7.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Excellent game
