Even if my review is partly based on nostalgia I can't recommend this gem of a game enough. In it's time it really rivaled the survival horror predecessors and what can I say - it did a damn good job. The setting felt relatable, the characters are unique yet stereotyp-ish and every one in the group is really useful. The story itself is good, I liked it very much and it did not feel generic. I don't want to spoil stuff so play it for your own. What boosted and boosts the horror for me was/is the soundtrack. This masterpiece gives me the chills every time I play this game (and I come back to Obscure every year...). The Graphics are solid, a remake would be a blast, but you're not missing anything with the steam version (except for the Introsong Still Waiting by Sum41, which is absolutely amazing!) The game itself takes several hours to finish, but if you know your way around Leafmore-Highschool you can be done in 2 hours which makes Obscure the perfect fit for a scary evening with a friend. Speaking of friends - Local Coop! A feature that I miss in many Games nowadays is present in Obscure (1+2) and makes the horror not less impactful but more fun! Have a great time and don't be the one still waiting :P
