After close to 4 hours in the demo, this game was an easy pick up on release day! It feels like a breath of fresh air into the genre, I absolutely love the focus of raising critters not for utility, but for the purposes of rehabilitation so that they can support themselves in the wild. Yiu can really tell the love poured into each critter's detailed needs and it's been very fun to create each biome. The fishing minigame is also very fun, the most enjoyment I've had for fishing ever. Also love the attention to detail of your pup companion (multiple ways they sleep in their bed?? Precious). The art is so pretty and unique and I'm so excited to get to explore further biomes! Overall really excited for the future of this game and how it further grows and develops, but honestly, it feels extremely worth it as is. As a side note, it plays excellently on the steam deck too!
A super fun mix between a cozy life sim game and a roguelike dungeon crawler! As someone who enjoys both genres I’ve been loving this game so far. The combat is on the easier side for me, even on the Spicy difficulty, although it is still challenging (the fire enemies can be particularly dangerous if you aren’t careful). The artstyle is also very nice! The Nimbits are very cute (I especially love the one that looks like a chiton!) and the NPCs look great as well. At the time of this review I've mainly been dungeon crawling, so I don't have much experience with the social aspect yet. I’m eager to see how the game develops!

I love this game! The Nimbits are my favorite creatures ever! This game has so much to do in it! The fishing mechanics are fun and challenging! Other games like this made fishing very lame to do. Nimbit Frontier PERFECTED this mechanic! Raising the Nimbits is actually alot of fun! EVERYTHING about this game is PERFECTION! I hope they expand on this game, and add more Nimbits! More mechanics unlocked! Now I am discovering even more in this game that makes it complicated, but in a very fun way!!! Habitats are so much fun! Who knew they could put so much into raising a baby Nimbit into a thriving adult Nimbit who can be released into the wild with skills you personally taught it.
I would lovingly describe it as a mix between Stardew Valley and Digimon World Championship, with the vibes of Pokemon Ranger as well as some roguelite elements (think Moonlighter, for example). Some of my highlights so far are the stunning art style, character and creature designs, and all the little details the devs put in to bring the townsfolk to life (going about their work, reading, fishing, flying a kite, etc.). Another little touch that positively surprised me is the player character portrait—it changes depending on how you designed your PC during character creation and even reflects the colour of the clothes you're wearing (not even Rune Factory did this!). It's only a bit weak on the audio front at the moment, with (seemingly) long stretches of silence. More music and/or more prominent background noise would do wonders to enhance the atmosphere of this otherwise beautifully crafted game. Also, what confuses me is that some of the townsfolk who should be romanceable aren't—for no particular reason that I can see, at least... (Alice q_q). But that aside, it's already a great game with tons of potential. It's perfect for relaxing after a long day of work. I'll have to see if it can keep me engaged in the long run, but at the moment, I'm having a blast with it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops in the future!
TLDR; Watch their gameplay video at the end of the steam reel. It will tell you if you will enjoy this game or not. I have to say. I didn't go in having extreme expectations, and this game has actually impressed still. The art is homey, it feels cozy, and that matches the game. Its like...if you combined Roguelike with Cozy? You dive and that system is like descending/ascending floors in various similar roguelikes. You have artifacts and gather gold, use keys and bombs. So kind of an isaac/cult-like too. But, you farm, have relationships with people in a town, gain levels and permits, build habitats/raise/ranch nimbits, and farm a little too. None of it is extremely deep, mind you. But this would appeal to the casual gamers (like me) who play a game for a few hours a night for some progression, and then continue irl the next day or week or something. Not to say you can't binge this game - the day/night cycle is forgiving, people and shops are easy to find. I do wish navigation was a little simpler - maybe some road signs in each area for fast travel, or something like luma island that lets you directly travel to certain areas in certain places. Maybe furniture will allow that and I'm just not deep enough in yet - I suspect that to be the case, as everything else has nice QoL features so far. A little hidden gem perhaps, and quite afforadable. Getting a thumbs up from me. Also, on a personal level. Thank you guys for your art and design, whoever is the artist (or if you both do it), props, seriously. And the game is very smooth. I wish you success and happiness.
I'm about 5 hours in, plus however many hours I spent on the demo. Honestly, I love it! I've got no business staying up late on weeknights playing it past my bedtime but I just can't help myself. The game loop is fun (find genetic fragments in a dungeon, hatch them into critters, rehab/raise them, then release them into the wild) and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I can't wait to see where the game takes me. My one nitpick is that the steam deck controls could use some deeper thought (I'm not sure if I can rebind keys yet) but that's super minor and the game is completely playable on deck.
It is so nice to play an indie genre mashup game that realizes an interesting idea alone isn't enough. Great polish and a really fun gameplay loop here.
This game combines three things that I had never seen together in a game, and that work much better together than you might imagine. - Creature collecting for the purpose of raising/nurturing them - Roguelite Dungeon clearing - Lifesim village life and npc bonding Best of all, in my opinion, is the game letting you play at your own pace and in your own style. You want it cozier and less battle-heavy? There's a mode to make dungoneering easy. Want to do every possible thing you can do in a single day? Don't worry, there is no exhaustion mechanic that rushes you to bed so you don't faint, you can go for as long as you want before finishing the day. The hand-drawn art is charming, the companion pet is loveable and really useful, the developers are attentive and clearly passionate. TLDR: game fun.
Pleasantly surprised for an early access game! I’ve always been a fan of monster collectors and dungeon rpgs. This game has a perfect balance between the two. The art style and gameplay mechanics run smoothly and it’s very cute and slightly involved while still being enjoyable. The enclosure building and creature care is simple yet complicated enough where you don’t get bored. I can’t wait until I unlock more and spend more time with the characters and storyline :D So far Hugo is my fav I’m so excited to see what he has to say lol :p
Nimbit Frontier is awesome! Initially demo'd and wishlisted from a simple premise: combining solid dungeon crawling combat with the monster catching and rehabilitation almost like Pokemon Ranger. When it fully released, I was unprepared for the amount of time I'd lose to it (currently 13hr ~ 3 days after release). It has a great base for a very fresh early access with insane amounts of potential, and considering this is a TWO PERSON TEAM the work they put into it really shows. Even where you can choose where to spend your time each day gives more variety than I expected, but so far I've felt no pressure in only doing one extra long dungeon run, or running around town doing errands or fishing (SHOUTOUT ORIGINAL FISHING MINIGAME) and skipping the dive. Even time specific harvests underground can have "dungeon is day/night only" modifiers to help yourself out. There is such a smooth progression too, the first area is a great tutorial / stomping ground where you get your bearings, by the second I had to start trying, and the third that I admittedly sped into threw me for a loop into my first death that just made me love it even more. Absolutely must shout out the design as well, it is SO simple at a basic glance but all the little elements like character portraits, Nimbit cards, scenery designs, are amazingly detailed and cute. The music is a very nice, calm loop that I barely notice regardless of the area which says a lot when I normally mute it all. Off of design, customizing the mini-ecosystems for the Nimbit rehabilitating is at once satisfying and exceptionally puzzling. Balancing what species needs how much of each thing in your limited space, and then it all paying off by sending out a perfectly raised S Tier species and reaping the rewards feels so good.
