The actual worst ND game.

I have a deep love for the nostalgia of the early Nancy Drew games, and while the changes HER have been making the past two games have been somewhat oppositional to what feels like the heart of the original games, I do have to give them their flowers where they deserve them. KEY was fun, maybe not as fun as some of my favorites from the lineup, but it was entertaining. I think the story, while pretty predictable in some aspects, was well written and it did feel like a ND game. Nancy's voice actor seemed to struggle with being more loose and emotionally readable in KEY versus MID, but I really think that towards the end, during her conversation with the big bad, she sounded great and really shined there. I loved that HER stayed true to the almost never ending lore and history of the games location. You can tell it was a labor of love, and that they truly want to find that middle ground between modernizing the games and keeping the charm of the original point and click. It's not lost on any of us that it unfortunately loses a lot of that charm and appeal with certain modernizations, however. I love the new graphic and the models for the characters; they were super well done and didn't have that creepy uncanniness that I think many have complained about with MID and many of the early games. But the interface between free roaming and point-and-click modes, the menu, the phone, and the journal felt very clunky and lack that charm that even the simplistic borders of past games had. There is something to be said about the fact that people do not like change, and neither do I. But, I am not naive enough to believe a company can survive if it refuses to adapt either. I hope HER continues to put out games and find that sweet spot between the original and the new-gen versions of Nancy Drew. I remember being that little girl and so deeply admiring Nancy and being able to have a game series that was so heavily woman-focused while also defying the standard of what "girl games" were "supposed" to be. As a fully grown adult, I know I will be looking forward to the next addition to the series and the many games it has inspired as well. I hope HER knows that many of us do want to see more and hope for the absolute best for the company and the games, but that it may be worth listening to your audience more. On the other hand, I hope that the fanbase will also realize that change is inevitable and to have a little grace for a company who is essentially having to find their footing again.
I am so disappointed! I thought her interactive was finally back but nope. I was happy to see point-and-click controls back but they are so confusing. Before in Nancy Drew if the game let you click yourself into a corner it was because there was something there to see, but because these controls are based off the free roam system that is not the case. Sometimes a side arrow turns you around, other times it actually moves you to the side. And there is no "spin in a circle" from other games that this would really benefit from. I tried using the modern controls but it was making me nauseous. I just can't do first person free-roam. Also since when were the hit boxes so small on clues? Once I was finally able to maneuver myself into position to find the clues for the artifact puzzle the magnifying glass was so tiny I kept missing it. I don't remember it being that hard to find things in earlier games. What really made me give up was the latte art. The level of precision is entirely unnecessary and I'm sorry but I did the outline, why do I now have to fill in the lines to make them thicker? AND the tiniest little mistake (ie me flinching and the mouse moving) led to a complete start over of the latte art I had so meticulously crafted and had been a couple clicks away from finishing. Once I found out in order to progress the game I had to do several of those dumb latte arts I gave up. And I'm the kind of person that loved the snack bar in Waverly and serving the food at Icicle Creek Lodge so I was super happy to see they had that kind of mechanic and then they made it unnecessarily punishing. (also note I played about 4.5 hours. Most was offline because my computer is old and struggles to run anything when wifi is connected so only 1 hour was logged.)
To Me, this was a typical Nancy Drew game, complete with "Second Chances" (which I used many times). I must admit that I could not have finished this game without a walkthrough. Most of the puzzles are not too difficult but some, at least for me, needed guidance. I now have played all 34 Nancy Drew Games, some more than once. I hope that will publish yet another. So I give it a conditional thumbs up.
This game is horrible and boring as can be. Nancy Drew games have really gone downhill after they changed management and everything was upended and redone. The graphics are horrible except for the main characters and buildings. There is no originality to the environment, such as the npc's, there are only a few different looks for the npc's so there are many "twins" in the environments. The gameplay sucks and doesn't pull me into the story and mystery like the games in years past. The Midnight in Salem game they released before Seven Key's wasn't bad, but this new installment is horrible. Just save your money and don't buy it.
I rarely write reviews but I wanted to for this game because I have played all the other Nancy Drew games and enjoyed them. I really liked the game before this one. This one I feel like I got swindled on honestly. The puzzles, clues, and hints are NOT intuitive even on the easy mode. Half the time the hints don't even make sense or the way you control or place something isn't clear. It's just bad. The plot now that I'm mostly done is just... bad... compared to the past games. What happened? I still hope they will make more and that they will be better! But don't waste your money on this one, even if you are a fan :( I don't think I'll even finish the end, even though I'm almost there. It's just so painful and annoying. Please go back to the style of puzzles and stories on past games! I wish I could get my money back!
I've played the Nancy Drew games from the beginning. The depth and complexity of the story in this game was enthralling! I was hooked from the start. There were a few features that took some getting used to, but I would say this is one of the best Nancy Drew games I have played. I also liked how they made Nancy seem like a professional, working with an international agent made the whole story feel more real. The puzzles were a mix between easy and difficult, but I appreciated the amount and variety. I also liked the amount of characters and character development. I was really routing for people in the story. The length of the game was a surprise, too. It was much longer than other Nancy Drew games, which was great! Overall, this was a very enjoyable Nancy Drew game!
I made latte art then hated myself
