Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Sep 13 → 1.33/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I've joined the Monster Train party a bit late.. but boy, it's a great deckbuilder! Plenty of factions that give you two card pools to combine from, each having a different mechanical flavour
klasse Spiel!
TRAIN GOOD
One of the best games I've ever played for the entire experience. Alone, no one element of this game is the best but the combination of the story, the gameplay, the music... it's one of my top 5 of all time. (note that the majority of my hours are on another platform)
Pros

+5 base clans (6 with DLC), each featuring two distinct champions to choose from
+Ability to combine two clans per run, each providing its own unique card pool
+Solid soundtrack
+Covenant system that allows you to make the game harder, giving you a greater challenge
Cons

-Runs can feel repetitive due to only having two paths between fights, both of which lead to the same destination
-Not many neutral cards
-Art style feels a little generic, mainly for the enemies
Gameplay and Progression

Core Loop and Combat: The primary goal in Monster Train is to protect your Pyre and reach the final floor. Each run consists of a series of battles where you face waves of enemies followed by a boss. Since this game is a roguelike, you’ll gather new cards, upgrades, and artifacts that are lost upon death or completion. The combat involves summoning units across three floors, managing buffs and debuffs, and shifting units to optimize your defense and defeat the enemy.
Progression and Systems: While you don't keep items between runs, there is a persistent progression system for the clans. Each can be leveled up to 10, unlocking new cards, and a second champion. These unlocks expand your options for future runs.
Difficulty and Variety: The game starts on the easier side, but beating it once unlocks the Covenant system. This adds stackable modifiers that increase the challenge with every successful run. While the various clans offer diversity, the navigation between fights is very linear. You essentially complete an encounter, choose between two paths for upgrades or events, and then proceed to the next battle (which remains the same regardless of your path). Fortunately, the enemy variety is decent, and while the bosses remain mostly the same, their specific abilities can vary between runs.
Visuals and Presentation

Art Style: I found the art style to be a mixed bag. Some characters and units look good, but others feel generic. This is especially noticeable with some of the enemy designs.
Technical Design and Performance: The game performs well and the UI is intuitive. When you hover over a card, it explains its abilities, which is a useful reminder for specific effects. I didn’t encounter any bugs during my playthrough.
Wrap-Up

Personal Thoughts: I enjoyed Monster Train when I first started, but after a few runs, I felt like I had seen enough of the game. This might be because there isn't much variety in how you progress through the floors. I also found that I prefer Slay the Spire’s approach of controlling one character compared to summoning units across several floors. Ultimately, Monster Train is a good game, but one that didn't fully grab me.
Verdict: If you are a fan of roguelike deckbuilders, Monster Train is worth taking a look at, especially during a sale.
One of the absolute best "run"-based games there is. Incredible power ceilings, excellent lore (when flavor text is enabled), and an amazing soundtrack. The value is immense. Every card is animated, and creature cards summon the actual creatures. I've played maybe a hundred hours on mobile as well, and I plan to add more time on the PC version even with the sequel already out. Being able to have primary and secondary factions per run also gives so much quality replayability, as each combination can benefit from different strategies, and being able to select this also goes a long way toward adding control to an otherwise quite random genre. Please try this game if you love card based roguelikes etc.
