Very fun!!
But in all seriousness, incredible game. Interesting world and characters, unique and satisfying movement and awesome gameplay that kicked my ass.
This game is so GOOD! So sad I suck at playing it :'v

Great music and movement
Shovel Knight is definitely required reading for this one; a lot of the same Yacht Club design philosophy is on display here and iterated on pretty heavily. Coming into the game with that expectation and experience from Shovel Knight helps substantially. Difficulty is relatively linear at first before plateauing around the midgame as you get access to more advanced tools. The endgame isn't sure how hard it wants to be and rapidly oscillates between "baby mode" and "die". Core gameplay is really fun but the jump -> dig motion takes a while to get accustomed to particularly when many attacks don't have enough windup to allow you to act on the telegraph rather than predicting the attack. Artifacts later on greatly alleviate these issues but it's a little bit questionable I feel that the solution to your dodge roll equivalent being clunky is to just get artifacts rather than the game feeling designed around that clunky dodge (ie. like how options to improve your jump in shovel knight were very limited besides stall options like the locket and propeller blade) Graphics and sound are as always top notch (Favorite track: Horrific Voyage) but the 2.5d view sometimes hurts readability and exacerbates the existing occasional clunkyness of combat. Attacking enemies from North -> South feels very unsafe as it's difficult to read where the top of an enemy's hitbox actually begins. 8.5/10 if I had to give a score, but for the price it's an absolute steal. Can't wait to see what Yacht Club does next. Not sure if it's my GOTY but it's up there for sure.
Most negative reviews are git gud related, this game has amazing controls, they are made this way to make your monkey brains f💣ck up, on purpose, to be different and so you would keep dying and rage quiting, but then the ones complaining to steam reviews are the chumps who cant handle the dying and do some major rage quiting, yea like the kind we all saw when the halo kid smashed his TV to pieces, yea that kind of rage quiting:) and then the blaming begins, on steam reviews, how the movement is the problem, how the detectionbox is the problem, not the fact that youve been used to winning easy in forza horizons for the past 10 years or not the fact that since you were in school you would get the participation awards left and right, for last 20 years, so you ve gotten weak and woke, no, its because the digital mouse doesnt go fast enough, to you I tell, stick to idler clickers and leave this to the grown ups! 10/10, indie game of the year!! Would watch my mouse die for 100s time again just to get that amazing rush when I finally beat the boss because I am the superstar not because a game let me have it
