Reviews
I want to preface this whole review by saying I'm mostly the problem - nearly everyone else seems to think this is a fun game but I just found it mostly frustrating. The art style is great and the music is OK. But at 6 hours in, I haven't really achieved much except dying a whole bunch, failing missions and a handful of unlockables that might be worthy upgrades but is too soon to really tell. It doesn't feel good to keep losing and then be awarded nothing because I couldn't get far enough or get awarded something small and be told that I can now unlock more things because I failed. In a roguelike, games are quick enough that failing doesn't feel like a big deal. You either pick up enough momentum that you make it or you are rewarded with perks or upgrades and quickly thrown back in to action. Being a strategy game, rounds can take an hour+ which is too slow for a roguelike with not enough reward in between each run. The very first level I was met with at least 10 enemies on screen and I am in a team of 3. The overwhelming feeling of hopelessness sets in right away. And there are a few things you need to learn to play successfully: 1. It wants to be a clever mix of strategy and the run n gun nature of a typical Metal Slug game, so, move always and go far distances. Dodge is attached to adrenaline which is attached to movement. You'll be able to do special attacks and dodge when moving as far as you can each turn. 2. Sync: You have a team of 3 and when you attack, if a teammate is in range of an enemy you are attacking, it will also attack. This is essential when you figure out your standard weapon does 3 damage, the weapon you want to use has a limit on bullets and an enemy typically has 5-6 health. 3. Shelter/barriers in other tactical games are essential but in this game should only be used if it is convenient to do so because your movement/dodge is far more effective than hiding behind something. All this does is invite enemies to group up and defeat you in numbers. 4. Don't be afraid to use special moves. In fact, you should be using them nearly all the time. If you do the number 1 in this list, you'll always have enough adrenaline to do this one. 5. Don't forget to revive/resuscitate. It's a small button up the top under each character. Early on, I found this to be essential. 6. Focus on the objective. One mission was to end 4 dudes located around the stage and I lost because I was overwhelmed with a constant backup of enemies. I ended up killing 21 enemies but still got nothing for my time because I didn't finish the level. If I focused, it would have been reasonably easy. But it felt like I struggled to find enough time to be left enough to take out the 4. When I finally realized what I needed to achieve, my guys were seconds away from defeat as a team. One move that I found to be effective was to use a special move that movies enemies and allies away to nearby squares from their current position. The enemy had a +5 shield from being behind a barrier which was incredibly difficult to kill. But once I moved them out of there, it took 1 sync attack to finish the job. If you keep this in mind, you'll get a lot further than I did. I thought I liked strategy games until I played this. And maybe with more time, I would like this game eventually now knowing what I know. But sadly, I am spoiled for choice and I don't have patience anymore to dedicate to a game that I haven't fallen in love with 6 hours into it. I've owned this game for a long time but the reason I put off playing it (and my biggest fear) was that I wouldn't like it. And I really wish I did because I am a huge fan of the series. Worked well on Linux.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Surprisingly good, not the usual tactical game that I'm used to, as in, taking my time and taking cover, stuff like that, this one does the opposite, the more you walk the better "dodge" you have, which is basically a thing that will negate damage. It's actually very fun, it does have permadeath, as in if you lose you lose and have to start over, but it's really not a big issue after you get into it after a bit. As I was unlocking all the characters, and the true ending, I noticed during it, that the layouts and enemy placements are the same, It's not bad I guess, but it's very predictable. Eri is awesome, her Enemy Chaser ability after being upgraded once , is overpowered and makes the game a cake walk, but in a good way, hell most of the characters are great, each ones abilities, are very different, and fun to learn. 9/10
Despite multiple delays and likely cut content/DLC from launch difficulties, this is a really solid strategy game and as someone who loves the mainline series it does a great job of representing the characters, lore, art style and sound effects. The soundtrack is really damn good too as it was made by tee lopes and gives that sonic mania vibe but in metal slug's musical style and the tracks are addictive to listen to especially considering there are multiple versions that randomly show up in a run. For the first few hours it might be tricky to understand or get used to the mechanics, but eventually as you play and try to unlock new characters, skills, and loadouts it becomes second nature and teaming up for sync attacks and getting the most out of special actions, adrenaline, and dodge points becomes really fun. The characters can play completely differently depending on what loadouts or skills you prioritize and what combination of characters you use. My only complaints are the fact there could have been more enemy, location, and vehicle variety and the lack of the crazy transformations from the series besides the mummy one (Zombie, Overweight, Monkey, etc.). Since dotemu gives their games free content updates often sadly this was one of the few that unfortunately did not recieve anything besides quality of life updates...and on a side note its very unfortunate this game did not sell well as its a really fun gem and replayable while at that (took me around 40ish hours to unlock all achievements but still have not bought out the shop or experienced all difficulties). Overall this was a solid pick for anyone who is a lover of the series, a strategy beginner or veteran, or just an indie game enjoyer in general. I'd give it an 8.5/10 and would have loved for more variety on the enemy, location, vehicle, and transformation side as everything else such as the roster, the skills, or the weapons were as fleshed out as they could be!
Cool little game when you get the hang of it, I would have preferred it without the rogue lite loop, but hey ho, it is what it is
Juegazo.
Running gives me Armor and Mana. Yes.
Despite loving Tribute, Metal slug, and Tactics games as a whole, i cant recommend buying this as the people who currently own SNK (the Saudi Arabian government) continue to perpetuate human rights abuses while using investments into the video game industry and esports to greenwash their money and give themselves a better reputation. that said, i was given this by a friend and genuinely enjoyed my time. as soon as SNK changes owners, i will update my review to positive
