Modeled estimate, not a reported figure. How we estimate →
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 322.75/day in the week to Jul 15 → 6.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

MGS1 sucks as a game, story is ok.
COMPRE! COMPRE! COMPRE!
mmmm metal gear
First off, I loved mgs as a kid and was quite obsessed with it. First stealth action game I've ever played. Pretty much Influenced me as I still love and prefer this genre. It looked cool, characters were badass, especially snake, gray fox and rex. Has the all-time-best OST. I think there isn't a single track I don't like. All of them are memorable, recognizable. Retrospect it was high quality and a decent game. Alas it aged like chicken meat in a plastic container you left in your fridge for 3 decades. Graphics are okay at best even though we could see better examples in 98/99. Controls are horrid, delayed. There's no way controlling speed, you can only run, or tap and hope you won't bump into that one guard you want to take out. Same with aiming with the sniper rifle. It's just awful. SM64 came out 2 years prior and it's literal day and night. That game actually still holds up after THREE decades, while this one only managed to invoke a bitter rather than sweet taste in my mouth. The studio recreated a huge portion of Shadow Moses for mgs4 as the 3rd shortest level. It felt.. extremely small. Probably due to the absence of keycards that gave you reason to revisit previous areas for new gadgets, weapons, mandatory items. This game severely needs a remake with a better engine, better controls. In this state it does not offer much other than nostalgia. I hate nintendo, but even they are better at remaking classics. Link's Awakening is the best example how a remake should look like. 20€ for this game in this state is just theft at daylight. Especially since it came out way more broken in a much less desirable state. It would be disingenuous to recommend this game, unless you've been a huge mgs fan for a long time and can tolerate everything that is wrong with this game. Even then, wait for a discount, because it isn't worth a full price.
METAL GEAR SOLID - Master Collection Version

[Overview]
METAL GEAR SOLID - Master Collection Version (2023) is an enhanced port of the original 1998 PlayStation exclusive originally developed by Konami, with this version developed by M2. It features a few enhancements compared to the original PS1 version including HD support, button mapping, in-game controller port swapping, and bonus content. You play as Solid Snake as he's tasked with infiltrating and eliminating rogue members of FOX-HOUND, who have organized a terrorist threat involving high-profile hostages and a potential nuclear strike if their demands for Big Boss' remains are not met. Snake has to infiltrate Shadow Moses Island and take down each member of FOX-HOUND one-by-one while attempting to secure the hostages, but the situation quickly proves to be more complicated than it seems. Note: This review will be focused on the quality of this port. You can find my review of the original game linked at the bottom, so the review of this port doesn't get too bloated.
[Recommended Tweaks and Tips]
- MGSM2Fix (Adds widescreen support, restores graphics, and other fixes/enhancements. Make sure to tweak the config after installing.) - Utilize the codec as much as possible. If you're ever stuck, try calling your allies for advice. They'll usually help you out. To save the game, call Mei Ling on the codec (140.96). Meryl's frequency is listed on the back of the game's case (140.15). - Backtrack and explore after getting security card upgrades. You can often find missable equipment lying around in previously locked rooms. - Read the manual and consider playing the VR Training mode. There are lots of moves and mechanics that the game won't explicitly teach you. - Consider playing or learning the plot of Metal Gear 1 & 2. They aren't required, but this game references events and characters from those games that may leave you confused if you're unaware.
[Positives]
- Great game. See my linked review at the bottom for an in-depth look at the game itself. - Includes the North American release of the game by default. The European and Japanese regional exclusives (Special Missions and Integral) can be optionally installed as included DLC. The VR Missions expansion is also included. Twin Snakes is the only major version that's missing. - Includes everything you need for the more gimmicky parts of the game. You get in-game access to the manual, game case, and controller ports. - When you reach the end of disc 1, the game automatically switches to disc 2. No manual input required. - You can create fake save data for other Konami PS1 titles (e.g., Castlevania, Contra, Silent Hill) for use with the Psycho Mantis encounter. - You can choose between PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC button prompts. - Includes some neat bonuses like the Master Book and Screenplay Book. - Patches have smoothed out many of the initial issues with this port.
[Mixed]
- The frame rate is capped at 30 FPS, the same limitation as the original game. Steam will report 60 FPS in the frame counter, but the underlying game is actually 30. This isn't a major deal as the game plays very smoothly regardless. - Playing in Max Resolution mode causes small seams in the geometry due to how PS1 games struggle to properly scale at high resolutions. It's not a major issue. I consider the extra clarity to be worth the trade-off. - Some minor textures were changed compared to the PS1 version (e.g., red cross removed, Johnny's underpants, exorcism pictures. MGSM2Fix can revert these changes.) - Some players report input lag or audio issues. I didn't experience much of either, but it seems to be a commonly reported problem.
[Negatives]
- High resolution mode forces a blurry texture filter and an ugly new font that you can't disable (MGSM2Fix can correct both of these issues in the config.) - You can't freely select specific render resolutions. You can only choose between High (4x) and Max (8x) (MGSM2Fix allows you to set custom resolutions.) - No proper 16:9 widescreen support. The in-game widescreen setting is stretched 4:3, which looks terrible. (MGSM2Fix can fix this.) - You're required to agree to Konami's terms of use on startup in order to play a PS1 game from 20+ years ago. - Unskippable logos and a ridiculous trigger warning on startup (can be skipped via MGSM2Fix.) - The $20 price is steep for what you get. I'd expect more effort for this price. Modders have been able to further enhance the game for free, with no issue. Why can't M2 manage the same level of quality when they're the ones profiting? The price is a hard sell when emulating the original game is arguably better.
[Conclusion]
It's not a perfect port, but with mods and patches it's decent. You're best off with third party emulation, but this is probably the definitive way to play Metal Gear Solid officially. 7.5/10 Check out my review for the original game! Follow my Steam Curator Page for more reviews!
