Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

4 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
4 on sale11 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 11 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Sep 7: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 4 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Initial Thoughts: I have just completed Max Payne. This game is incredible! The story telling, the gameplay, the level design, it has it all going for it. However, this game is 25 years old, don’t bother trying to play it without a patch; otherwise, you will quickly get frustrated as the game is nearly impossible to play due to a litany of sound issues. I used this guide and didn’t suffer from any crashes or issues of that sort during my playthrough. May Payne Steam Patch (Textures & Sounds) Story: The story plays like a mix of Sin City and Boondock Saints, with hints of Die Hard and James Bond mixed in. If you are a fan of a stylized, comic book neo-noir aesthetic, you’re going to love how this story unfolds. It’s captivating, cold, and lonely; it completely consumes you. Without giving too much away, I’ll keep it short and sweet: you play as a cop up against a massive crime syndicate. There is some seriously evil stuff going on, and you’re thrust into the middle of it, trying to piece together the conspiracy and figure out how to fix a world that feels like it’s breaking. It’s about as close as you can get to playing through an actual interactive comic book / movie. This is a 10/10 for me. Characters: The characters are full of life and genuinely interesting. The voice acting is superb; Rockstar clearly spared no expense here. James McCaffrey as Max is legendary; his cynical, metaphor-heavy monologues are what make the "interactive movie" feel actually work. From the "femme fatale" vibes of Mona Sax to the suave Russian mobster Vladimir Lem, every person you encounter feels vital. Even the villains, like Nicole Horne and Jack Lupino, they make a massive impact on the plot. They aren't just there to give you objectives; they make the world feel dangerous, alive, and lived-in. Gameplay & Mechanics: This is a fast-paced third-person shooter where the difficulty curve is noticeable; enemies get smarter and start packing much heavier weaponry as you go. You’re going to run into some serious trial and error, specifically a few spots where you’ll get caught in a death loop until the circumstances finally go your way. It feels fair, though; you just have to be agile and cunning with how you clear a room. The standout mechanic is the slowdown effect, which is very similar to what you see in F.E.A.R. Just keep in mind that you can’t ADS or zoom in unless you’re looking through a sniper scope. You’ll be burning through a massive amount of ammo, but it’s rarely a problem since enemies constantly drop mags for whatever they’re carrying. Honestly, I kept coming back to one thought: this game walked so F.E.A.R. could run. Graphics: The graphics are exceptionally great for the time. Only a few 2001 titles really stick out to me as obviously looking better; stuff like Halo: Combat Evolved, Jak & Daxter, and maybe Final Fantasy X. Both the sound design and the visuals are incredibly well put together. Those first few levels are hauntingly cool; I love the look and feel of the subway levels specifically. The grimy, snow-covered NYC setting adds so much weight to the mood. The way the comic panels blend with the in-game engine makes the transition from cutscene to gameplay feel seamless. It all just clicks to create a heavy, immersive atmosphere that still holds up. Final Thoughts: It’s a classic in every sense of the word; one of those defining titles that is on every "best of" list for its era, and for obvious reasons. This game simply kicks ass. Even by today's standards, it is well worth at least one playthrough. Honestly, I’ll likely play through this again just because I enjoyed the story so much, and that’s really saying something for me; I rarely ever play through a game twice. If I had a list of 100 games to play before you die, this would be on that list. Score: 9.5/10. Play this game.

Hadn't played since the original release on PS2. Kicked my ass. Still a great game. There's an easy guide to getting it to work on modern PCs in the Guides of the game. Unpack one zip and you're good to go.
