About
From the creator of Lost in Vivo and Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion, Lunacid is a horror ARPG from a bygone era. Immerse yourself in a dark, desperate world full of foes, lost souls, and hidden secrets.
Long ago, the Great Beast arose from the sea and covered the earth in poison fog. Choking out the land of both life and light, a new era of wonderous misery began.
Centuries have passed. The once hallowed halls and bustling streets are mere shadows. Those deemed undesirable are thrown into the Great Well, a pit of chaos and disease. Cast into its depths for crimes unknown, you awaken in this moonlit subterranean world. Your only hope lies with the sleeping Old One deep below. But many perils lie between you and your ultimate goal.
From the mind of horror master Akuma Kira, Lunacid harkens to a lost era of first-person ARPGs. Legendary for their meticulous design and dense dungeons, the King’s Field series was the Dark Souls before there was a Dark Souls. Long abandoned by AA/AAA developers, the mantle of “King’s-Like” is left to the humble indie. Which is great, because that's where all the cool weird stuff comes from anyways.
The world of Lunacid is bursting at the seams with new things to discover, from hidden magics to secret areas. This isn’t just the odd room with a chest in it; entire new areas await those with a watchful eye. Esoteric puzzles and cryptic hints galore are sure to confound and delight even the experienced dungeon delver.
Take yourself back to a time before dodge rolling. Swipe, backstep, block, and overcome foes with patience and persistence. Featuring a robust body targeting system and unique elemental weaknesses/resistances, each encounter becomes a skilful yet deadly dance of death. Begin your journey as a thief, knight, cleric, or… vampire? Building your character up to you.
Over 75 weapons await you in the fetid halls of Lunacid. 37 Unique spells, each with applications beyond the obvious. Finding them all, however, is another matter. Unless you use a guide. Which hey, we won’t judge.┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌
Don’t forget to save.
Featuring dozens of hours of gameplay and multiple endings, Lunacid is a rich and rewarding take on a classic formula. Relics of past game design long abandoned lie in wait. So jump in the Great Well and let the wonders of Lunacid surprise you. Mimics might just steal your silver instead of eat you.

Fascinating dungeon crawler. + Exquisite exploration + Impeccable atmosphere + Surprising interactions – Lategame/Postgame quite obtuse and almost impossible to complete without help/guide
fantastic game. I've never played a kings field game before, but man this game really spoke out to me. An amazing experience with tons of little secrets, if you're the type of gamer that loves to 100% games, this one is a great choice. I really hope that DLC comes out soon, I cannot wait to play it :)
I've liked some other retro dungeon crawler RPGs like Morrowind or Arx Fatalis, but something is not clicking for me with this game. The music doesn't really fit the aesthetic imo, navigation and exploration is more bother than fun, while combat is insultingly basic. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

When a dreamer awakens. What happens to the inhabitants of the dream?
Lunacid has become on of my favorite games of all time. I am absolutely in love with the atmosphere and the visuals. You can tell how much love has been put into this game in all the details, mechanics, characters and etc. The exploration is a fun and delightful experience. Without a map you have to figure out the layout of the various levels yourself, and while it can be frustrating sometimes it is also so satisfying when you find a hidden passage or a secret item or hells the exit!! And then there is THE MUSIC!! The soundtrack is an absolute BANGER and is soo good at setting the mood and immersing oneself into the current environment. Combat is also fun, I especially enjoyed messing around with all the various spells/rings (COFFIN SPELL, MY BELOVED, IS THE BEST ONE IDC!!! Carried me so hard through my first playthrough, you dont even know....). What solidified this game as one of my favorites though is the story that is being told, especially through the different endings (and all that surrounds in getting them). I honestly did not expect anything profound or special when I first started, but then I started going through the different endings and man...it just hit me, resonated with me so strongly, so intimately, so viscerally. I knew then that this game got me into its death grip and I will think of it for a long long time. (plus as a drakengard 3 lover, reaching ending E made me absolutely giddy with excitement, iykyk ;D) This game might not be for everyone, but it is something wonderful and beautiful nonetheless, and I encourage anyone who might stumble upon Lunacid to try it!! I CANNOT WAIT for the DLC to drop and am excited to explore more of this wonderful world that has been crafted! Truly a work of art that I will constantly come back to!
This whole world, this dream... You can keep it with you. And when you're out there, and things don't seem possible, Remember that you can overcome it.
Spoilers below. - - - - Pros: The atmosphere of the game is solid and the music is mostly pretty good. The amount of variety in environments is pretty good, and some of the hidden areas are similarly distinct, lending a nice sense of surprise when you find somewhere you didn't even need to go. The game definitely has a fantastical vision and feels like you're peeking only a small glimpse of a cryptic and larger whole. The selectable filters are neat, and the VHS one in particular looks fantastic. Cons: The final boss of this game is a nightmare damage sponge and it's just frustrating as hell. Especially since the controls suck for casting magic while on the move, and rebinding your controls requires editing a txt document instead of doing it in-game directly. It wasn't until fighting that boss that I realized putting so many points into DEX and SPD was a giant mistake, since apparently ice tear is the far-and-away best strategy for killing it. Finding secrets is basically just humping the wall waiting for a question mark to show up. Many are decently obvious or signposted, but there's enough that are *not* well-signposted that it means most of your exploration is going to be spent rubbing against every wall you see, just in case. Combat is one note and largely frustrating, mostly kiting the enemies, charging up a spell or a sword swing, and praying that the hit detection actually registers, which it does *maaaaaybe* half of the time, especially with ranged weapons or specific spells. Often, charging up a series of attacks will lead to cancelling animations or freezing the charge-up meter for no apparent reason, so it's impossible to enter any sort of flow. The graphical style is an abnoxiously-incohesive mixture of good and bad. Low poly PS1 style textures mixed with occasional, bafflingly out-of-place assets/models. You summon a high-definition ice sword that doesn't look remotely appropriate. Or an anime demon girl shows up. These are fine in theory but since they're not bespoke low-poly models, they stand out like a sore thumb. I didn't come to this game as a King's Field fan, or a dungeon crawler fan generally. Nothing against the genre, just never really played them before. Maybe this would hit differently if I *was* a fan of the genre. I came to this game due to its frequent mention in lists of games with lots of secrets. Mostly, I walk away frustrated with so many design choices, bugs, and oversights. The UI is unresponsive and difficult to engage with. The balance of builds/stats is nonexistent, Every button press is a toss-up as to whether it's going to register. Finding secrets in the game was wholly unsatisfying, since it was rarely looking out for things that seemed interesting or out of place, and instead was just about poking every surface. Until you reveal another mana potion making you question your choices. If you absolutely *love* old school dungeon crawlers, this is probably for you. It definitely feels clunky and outdated in many uncharming ways. Maybe that's the appeal. But not for me.
cool game and cool atmosphere. look forward to the dlc.
