"May you find your book in this place." Combat between the guests and the librarians breaks out as if it were on a stage. Defeated guests turn into books, and the Library grows onward. And eventually, get your hands on… The one singular, perfect book.

It was going great, It was amazing actually, i was tempted to give this game a 10/10 but why? Why didn't lulu ever get a new cake? Her cake had been ruthlessly stolen by her co-worker, IT DOESNT MATTER IF THE CAKE WAS EXPIRED this is unacceptable behaviour and I will not tolerate this. San had PROMISED to buy a new one, what a dirty liar.. for this reason i rate library of ruina a 2/10 bad game also difficulty spike or something

Only just starting and this is the deck builder I've been looking for. Not a roguelike finally. Complex enough to keep you interested but not a brain melter at all. Really cool art style and interesting story. I have not played their previous games and I still get the idea. For sure worth 30$ all day or wait for a sale. I'll update after 100+ hours which will happen lol. Happy gaming! Hail Lord Gaben!
After sinking in 132 hours into Library of Ruina I can easily say this was nothing short of Phenomenal. While it does have some issues I'll talk about in the review they generally were far outweighed by all the good in the game. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Story and Characters Starting with the story, this is one of the best parts about the game. The narrative focuses mainly on Roland and Angela who are the driving force behind a lot of what keeps the game going. They primarily exist in the library where they plan to deal with various guests from different factions as well as interact with other librarians on different floors. The other librarians are on various floors and are tied to a number of topics which in conversations with Roland and Angela help a ton in building upon their character. This is nice because it serves as a means to challenge a lot of their core philosophies and ultimately what they believe in as the game progresses. This leads to Roland and Angela both being very fleshed out and interesting characters which when these are so ingrained with the main narrative ultimately works very much in it's favor. Another thing worth praising is this games worldbuilding. Due to the narrative structure and how it works, we regularly get to learn a lot about all the guests who come to the library. With this we get plenty of insight into the various factions that live in the city, how they work as well as their beliefs. Much like the other librarians these characters also help build on Roland and Angela by sometimes challenging their beliefs. The world of Ruina is a really great execution on a highly technological sci fi dystopia. It does a good job at establishing the hierarchy of the world and how extreme some factions can behave. I don't want to spoil too much but I found the way the story resolved in the true ending to be highly satisfying. Definitely have to play it to see what I mean. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gameplay In regards to gameplay, there is an absurd level of depth but also a reasonable floor to learn the basics. A lot of doing well in the combat revolves around understanding how certain mechanics interact and using them to your advantage. It's worth noting that this game is very unforgiving overall and that the difficulty curve is no joke. That being said though it rarely ever felt unfair to me. The game does a good job at giving you the tools you need to succeed. I won't get into too much detail since the game covers all of this but there are basically endless options as to how you can configure your teams. Throughout the game you unlock "floors" of the library which basically represent different teams you can setup. There are challenge battles called abnormality battles where it always teaches you something new about the game mechanics while also unlocking useful abilities for that floor. I liked this approach a lot because it makes it so you understand how something works before moving on and sticks in memory. One of my favorite parts about the gameplay is the level of customization the game offers. One of the main things you'll be doing is building out characters and teams as I mentioned earlier. When you win vs guests in the library you get these things called key pages which is sort of like unlocking a new character. They get their own passives and sometimes unique skills you can use and you can equip key pages to just about any librarian. In addition to this you eventually unlock "passives" which is similar to how badges work in Paper Mario Thousand Year Door. If you're unfamiliar you basically have limited points and different passives use up more points than others. You can equip other key pages to any other key page and select other passives to add as you see fit. As one can imagine there are an absurd level of options by the time you reach lategame. All in all the customization was a very fun part of the game for me. If I were to offer a few issues I had I would say that the tutorials and UI could use some improvement. When I first started playing I sometimes found the tutorials to be overwhelming and had to teach myself a lot of how everything worked. I would look at some of the community steam guides on gameplay as they help explain a lot. It's definitely manageable and since the game teaches you a lot through the battles themselves so it's not all bad but I think the really early tutorials could be better. I also think the UI could stand to be easier to use. When setting up passives on key pages the search function was very hit or miss. Again these are all manageable but flaws still so wanted to mention it. I also think a few of the endgame battles were a bit overtuned but that is a lot more subjective so not everyone might agree. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music I absolutely loved the music in this game. For how often you hear some tracks you would expect to get sick of them but that was never how it was for me. There is a ton of musical variety overall with wonderful vocal tracks, electric guitar and some more orchestral songs. I really enjoyed how the music was adaptive to how far along the battle is to match the intensity as needed. All in all I have nothing but praise for the music. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technical and Art I don't have too much to comment on as far as the technical aspects of this game go. It's a 2D experience without much graphical intensity so it is expected to work well on most systems. I have a really powerful machine so everything ran perfectly fine (and I imagine this is the same for weaker systems). I didn't have any real bugs worth noting. Everything seemed to work fine although I heard some rare interactions can sometimes bug out. Nothing worth worrying about and the game seems well put together on a technical level. As far as the art goes I really liked the games artstyle. I think the way everything is presented lends itself well to the dystopian world the game tries to convey. All in all awesome artstyle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Final Thoughts Overall it was an absolute joy to play this game. It might have some of the issues I pointed out in gameplay but what I feel I got out of it through the story and overall experience far outweighed it. While it would be nice if the issues I mentioned were fixed they don't impact my overall score for the game. ProjectMoon did a fantastic job and should be proud of what they did here. 10/10
A challenging deck building game with lots of reading Pretty fun stuff
this game is just so good that its worth the 100+ hours of torturous torment you have to go through in lob corp in order to play it. definitely among my top 3 favorite games of all time
