LEGO® Batman™: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Legacy of the Dark Knight is an interesting one. Performance-wise on PC, it’s actually great. Playing solo, I was hitting anywhere between 60 to 80 FPS at 4K on a mix of High and Medium settings. When you switch over to local split-screen, you do have to drop the resolution down to 1440p to keep things smooth, but it gives you the exact same solid framerate. The combat is a massive surprise—it’s basically a massive homage to the Arkham games. It starts off simple, but toward the back end of the game it really opens up and lets you pull off proper combos. It honestly feels like the ultimate "introduce your partner to gaming" simulator; it’s incredibly easy and intuitive for a casual player to pick up, but it still throws in enough of a challenge to keep experienced players like us entertained. The story is essentially a "greatest hits" of the best Batman moments stitched together. Pacing-wise, though, it’s a bit all over the place. By the end, it definitely suffers from that "Marvel cameo effect," where characters are just popping up more for the sake of a cheap pop rather than actually adding anything of substance to the plot. Stealth is technically an option too, but not really. It’s not that you can’t try to sneak around, it’s just that the tools they give you are so incredibly lacking that there’s honestly no point in bothering with it. Where the game truly shines is the open world. It’s an absolute treat and easily sucked up a massive chunk of my total playtime, especially just wandering around solving the Riddler trophies and puzzle boxes. That said, I do have a couple of real gripes. The character customization is just okay, but I really would’ve preferred that classic, old-school LEGO style of chopping and changing body parts however you like, along with a slightly bigger roster. But my absolute biggest annoyance with the co-op is that one player always has to be Batman. The game never even bothers to explain why. It makes no sense, especially when you’re just messing around in the open world doing random side activities—I don’t see any reason why both players shouldn't just be able to play as whoever they want! The Good Stuff Solid PC optimization: Cranks out 60-80 FPS at 4K solo, and holds up just fine at 1440p in split-screen. Arkham-lite combat: Brilliant, accessible combat loop that builds into actual combos later on. Perfect for co-op. Awesome open world: Gotham is a blast to explore, and hunting down the Riddler collectibles is incredibly addictive. The Annoying Stuff Co-op restriction: Player one is permanently locked to Batman for no logical reason, even during free-roam side stuff. Messy story pacing: Feels a bit disjointed and leans too hard into hollow character cameos by the end. Pointless stealth: Half-baked mechanics mean you're better off just punching your way through every room. Shallow customization: Lacks the deep, classic LEGO "mix-and-match" creativity and could use a wider character roster. The Verdict If you’re looking for a fun, casual couch co-op game to play with a partner or a mate, this is a seriously good shout. It’s got some annoying quirks—like forcing someone to always play as Batman and a story that gets a bit bloated with cameos—but the smooth performance, great open world, and punchy Arkham-inspired combat make it well worth a playthrough.
