Easily in my top 5 favorite games ever made. If there's one thing that makes me want to swim in hot oil, its pointless, cheesy and predicable dialogue. Blatant exposition is a close second. Gives me the ol self-harm twinge every time. Most AAA games lean heavy on this nonsense, beat you over the head with it and assume youre too stupid to put the pieces of their stories together yourself. HLD does not do this. There is no dialogue, just little 8-bit blips, text [alien language, has been decoded since the game came out if you really want to know the story] and imagery. HLD tells the story of you, the drifter, discovering a city and its surrounding area that has been devastated by a war and a strange series of illnesses. You take it upon yourself to explore these places and fight your way to the heart of the corruption, discovering more about the society that once was. Gloomy solitude and a strange sense of peace follow you wherever you go. You learn that factions had vied for power, some militaristic, some religious, other scientific, and so on. As you go, you too start to fall ill and your exploration quickly becomes an ominous race against creeping death to just make sense of it all. The combat is incredibly satisfying and your weaponry and abilities compliment progression and gameplay almost perfectly. The music is fantastic and had a lot of time and effort put into it by Disasterpeace. The world building, despite being a pixel/8-bit looking game, is elite. The more time you spend exploring and studying and re-reading or re-watching, the more will jump out at you and the more you'll realize in that squishy little brain of yours that, yes, John was right. This was, in fact, worth playing. Remember the movie The Revenant? For me, The Revenants combination of solitude, loss, the wide open and quiet spaces, the almost solemn and longing music, left me with such a unique feeling that I still don't know how to describe it. HLD does the same thing. Grasping at life at the end of the world, just trying to keep going one more step to do the right thing with everything falling apart around you. Forlorn hope. For being as simple as it is, and as cheap as it is, it it phenomenal. I wish I could go back and play it again for the first time. Another fun fact is that, if I recall correctly, the creator and owner of Heart Machine actually has a heart condition that may end up being fatal. The games core themes revolve around living with something that might kill you, yet persevering anyway. There's all kind of lore analysis videos on YT about it and the story and how those ideas interact, and for me it has always magnified the games value. 10/10, highly recommended.

Every market we collect.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.43/day in the week to Jul 30 → 3.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

If you want to lay back and enjoy a story with fancy pixel art, buy it, great game with deep message. For weirdos like me that like getting all achievements, they are relatively hard, but the stress comes in the movement. This game, artistically its phenomenal. The gameplay loop? decent, but the gameplay core/movements are really harsh and rough. I liked the game for what it is, the lore is really really good, but the movement is so annoying, having to constantly go all around the map searching for gear bits without falling, hitting against a wall or pressing dash at the wrong tempo is so frustating. There's an achievement related to finding stuff hidden on the map, just exploring the world, you have to constantly backtrack to open locked doors that require modules and the map does not help at all, its really "messy" to find the path (the pixel art is great tho). It feels like the game punishes you for searching gearbits by constantly slowing you down. Ive met this game via indie cross, on youtube, it intrigued me how this character is portrayed in the series and it got me curious about the game. It was worth the wait, the lore is really deep and I will carry its message for life, fully recommend the experience and its worth the experience.

good
I will preface with its a great game so far. . . But. While the style is amazing, the environments are diverse and combat can be tight and fun. . . Part of the issue comes down to the fact HYPER light drifter isn't so hyper unless you want to spend half an hour or more perfecting an arbitrary dash mechanic that has a SUPER tight window to succeed in making some fights and at least one boss incredibly annoying. I had reached a certain boss that stays on you constantly and figured out his pattern rather quickly because its all telegraphed openly BUT couldn't do a damn thing about it because in trying to avoid him i wasn't hitting what felt like the 0.25 second window required to chain a dash and thus got smacked because my dash went on cool down. while it seems lame for this to be the only reason to leave a bad review, one there isn't a middle ground review, and two it sort of shatters a bullet hell type game when your movement is so HEAVILY crippled and you have to keep this internal rhythm going THE WHOLE TIME just to keep moving quickly, to ask for a perfect dash input every single time when I'm managing where all enemies are, obstacles, environmental hazards, and projectiles is a bit much. This game has a tag labeled souls like but that isn't accurate, its become a catch all for "difficult game" when in actuality it should have a tag closer to "pixel perfect movement" or 'hyper specific timed movement" or "you will spend half an hour getting one trick down just to enjoy the game" I know the dash isn't REQUIRED, but for a game with the name it has, a boss that VERY much requires rapid movement, and even an achievement based on said movement, you'd think it'd be more forgiving and live up to the hyper in its name. Again, great game from what I've played so far, but damn if that doesn't IMMEDIATLY slam things to a halt for me.
Nice
