Join and become a Drifter
Much better after the recent update! Very fun combat, rewarding exploration, decent metaprogression, and beautiful art design.
Loved hyper light drifter and I really wanted to love this game too however, Its core just isn't there. It's just bland and really misses all the marks. Upside combat feels pretty okay, game is really pretty, and sound design is great. I thought maybe the recent reviews & update would signal its time to finally purchase this game. Spoiler its not. Keep cooking. I'll come back when the game complete. Edit: Rip game has been essentially ended all its development. it will get brought to a "release" state but staff has been laid off and the future for this project is quite bleak.
Cant recommend. World feels empty, combats OK but getting ganged up on without a way to parry attacks from behind sucks. No I frames for dashing, lack of direction when starting, just feels too bare bone. It could be fun with another person but i hate rolling the dice with randoms.
what a joke
I love the aesthetic but the current build is barely functional on Steam Deck. Where are the graphics settings?
I really liked the game on my first playing during early access. I thought it was incredibly challenging, and I kept dying at first. Then I learned, got better, and started to be able to kill bosses and clear some cycles. I did like the initial changes to the medkit system because I felt starting off without any medkits just because you happened to end a run using them on the last boss was a little annoying and incentivized you to go in to just get medkits on your first extract and go back in. I got to a point where I put together a great build I could take through runs and have some fun with specific holobytes and breakers. I stopped playing for a while just cause I got tired of only fighting two bosses (wolf and gladiator dude), but saw the new update had the new boss and a lot of changes and came back into it. Enemies feel weaker and therefore each hit is let punishing. It doesn't feel satisfying to win because there's hardly a challenge anymore. There no risk of dying on extracts until the end when you face enemies. I fought the new boss for the first time on my last run, and I didn't have to use a single medkit even without knowing its mechanics going in. I understand holding onto the holobytes that stack could make them too powerful, but also only having holobytes and equipment stay around for one run makes it almost impossible to have a specific build for rails, blades, or statuses. A lot of the changes just feel unecessary and I don't particularly understand the reasoning behind changing the difficulty to what feels like much easier. TLDR; Feels like game got too easy and you can't keep things across runs to try and make specific builds.
