Game Complexity: Puzzle game on which you switch colors to solve the puzzles. Game Difficulty: Medium to hard. Achievement Complexity: Complete the game, find the collectables and watch the credits. Achievement Difficulty: Same as the game difficulty. You may need to watch a guide if you can't find some collectables.
A Clever Puzzle Platformer Where Color Becomes the Mechanic
Hue is a puzzle platformer that builds its entire identity around a deceptively simple mechanic: the ability to change the background color of the world. When the background matches the color of an object, that object disappears. This idea forms the foundation for nearly every puzzle in the game, creating a clever interplay between visibility, timing, and spatial awareness. From the beginning, Hue stands out because of how naturally it introduces its core mechanic. Early levels are simple and approachable, allowing players to understand how color manipulation works without overwhelming them. As the game progresses, however, puzzles become increasingly complex, combining moving platforms, hazards, and precise timing with the color-shifting system. What starts as a visual trick gradually turns into a surprisingly thoughtful puzzle design tool. One of the game’s biggest strengths is its clarity. The minimalistic visual style ensures that every element on screen remains readable, which is essential when puzzles depend so heavily on color relationships. The environments themselves are simple, yet stylish, allowing the gameplay mechanics to remain the focus. Narratively, Hue also adds a subtle emotional layer. The story unfolds through narration and collectible fragments of dialogue that reveal the protagonist’s search for his missing mother. While the narrative isn’t complex, it adds warmth and context to the journey, giving the puzzles a sense of purpose rather than existing in isolation. The soundtrack deserves special mention. The music is calm and atmospheric, complementing the reflective tone of the game without distracting from the puzzles. Combined with the clean visual design, it creates a relaxing yet thoughtful atmosphere that encourages experimentation and problem-solving. Where Hue occasionally stumbles is in pacing. Some puzzles rely heavily on trial and error, especially when timing elements are introduced. In these moments, the challenge can feel more mechanical than intellectual. Still, these sections are relatively rare and don’t overshadow the overall experience. Ultimately, Hue succeeds because it commits fully to its central idea. By turning color into both a visual and mechanical tool, the game creates puzzles that feel fresh and memorable without needing complicated systems. It’s a short journey, but one that leaves a lasting impression.
The Good:
- Unique color-changing mechanic that drives creative puzzle design. - Clean visual style that keeps gameplay clear and readable. - Relaxing soundtrack and subtle narrative that add emotional tone.
The Bad:
- Some puzzles rely on trial-and-error timing. - Limited mechanical variety outside the core color system. - Relatively short overall playtime. For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I'm a big fan of platformers that make me multitask despite that not being a skill I possess. The puzzles are really fun in this and the story more moving than you'd expect. The colors can be a little bright at first but I also didn't go to the settings to attempt to fix them so obviously it wasn't that bad.
It is a cute game, to get all achievements you will probably have to replay it once which becomes tedious quickly
Fun game and beautiful visuals :D has good controls and plays perfectly on my Steam Deck OLED!
Great indie platformer, obviously nothing special by the standards of Hollow Knight, especially if you want something totally non-linear, but it's still an amazing game, mainly because of the voice acting/narrative and the color switching mechanic.
