For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. Idea is great but execution falls short. The biggest issue with Lake is that the game never really builds on its core mechanics. What you do in the first 30 minutes of the game, is essentially what you'll be doing until the end. While I understand this is meant to be a chill, laid-back game, it's simply too shallow in most aspects. I do appreciate the developers trying something different, but I simply cannot recommend it. The core gameplay, delivering mail and talking to people, gets mundane very quickly. Most delivery locations don't have anyone to interact with, which ends up feeling like filler gameplay. The driving itself is very basic, and the NPC's around town are more annoying than immersive. There's no progression system of any kind (I was not expecting progression, just pointing that out). The scenery is great, but since you're mostly confined to the roads and walking is painfully slow, exploration feels discouraged by design. None of this would necessarily be a dealbreaker if the story was good, but it's just not. Nothing interesting ever really happens, and the choices you make doesn't feel like they really have any sort of impact. The characters lack depth, and while the voice acting is actually good, much of the dialogue feels unconvincing or unnatural. Frank is great though. The only reason I actually finished the game, and didn't stop playing, is because I knew it was relatively short. On the positive side, I like the art style. I had a couple of visual glitches, but nothing major. The music and especially the radio is great, and fits the vibe of the game. I'd love to see another game from these developers that builds on the ideas in Lake while improving the aspects mentioned above.

I played the demo and got excited about this game. Delivering the mail and talking to the folks in a small town around a lake seemed like it would be quite a chill experience. Unfortunately, after playing through the full game, I can't recommend it. It's a good idea for a game, but it needs more work. Here are some examples: - The voice acting is good, but the writing... not so much. There are quite a few characters, but they're all very shallow. There's also a lack of humor. - There are many decisions, but almost none of them have any effect. Sometimes what happens afterward doesn't even match the choice you made. - The game doesn't live up to the "Story Rich" tag. Nothing really happens apart from a few decisions you make on the last day. - There are minor bugs, like subtitles not matching the dialogue. By the end, I also got a bit annoyed by the lack of an animation for getting in and out of the vehicle, which is simply replaced by a scene reload. - Depending on the lighting, the characters can often look eerie (including the protagonist). - The few radio songs were pretty good, but there weren't enough of them. Also, the characters' singing is kind of bad. - It's been called a "walking sim", but most of the game is actually driving. Walking itself is too slow to be used as an alternative. - Petting cats might be the best part of the game. There aren't many of these though. I also liked occasional encounters with other wild animals; unfortunately your character is too slow to follow them. So... yeah, I'm kinda disappointed with this one. I see that some people love it, though, so maybe try the demo and see if it's for you. Just keep in mind that the full game doesn't really add anything beyond what you've already seen.
I appreciate it definitely spoke to some people but I really didn't feel the overall vibe of this game at all. It tries to really bank on its 'cozy' factor but the repetitive gameplay loop, same three songs on repeat and bland writing kinda overshadow all of that. I found the game generally really sad, I guess? The MC is an outsider coming back home to a community where all the characters have a chill life but most seem to find things to be unhappy about. The romance subplots are really poor. There's virtually no chemistry between the MC and the options and it's kinda jarring how shoe-horned the romance is if you do force it. The game is presented as something warm and it very easily could have been written as such, but it's actually oddly cold. Feel hollow having finished it.
After an hour of playing, I can honestly say I was pretty disappointed. The car radio did more to entertain me than the actual game. As a mail carrier simulator, there's barely any variety in what you do. You're basically delivering letters and packages over and over again. As a small-town life sim, the NPCs feel robotic, the interactions are awkward, and the dialogue is completely lifeless. Deliveries basically consist of dropping a package on a counter and walking away. The world isn't interactive either, I couldn't even sit in a rocking chair on a porch. Driving the white van feels like controlling a giant LEGO brick. Hit a pedestrian or another vehicle and nothing really happens, they just get pushed out of the way. It's hard to take the world seriously when everything reacts like a toy. I was also looking forward to seeing the "beautiful scenery" that other reviews praised, but even with everything set to max, the visuals felt underwhelming and never managed to pull me into the game.
This review contains spoilers. What a fun game! Now here's a bit of a weird feedback on it - despite voting YES on "Do you recommend this game", I don't actually recommend it. Let me explain. I had fun with the game but not for the reasons the developers intended. The game had an annoying bug, where I couldn't turn off the radio anymore (even from the settings, I just had to turn down the music completely, as the radio buttons stopped working). Another annoying bug was in the latter half, where every day started with "Return to the Post Office". Anyway, no biggie. Ignoring these, the game was enjoyable becaaaaause... I played it as I would do things in real life. I'm an introvert. Some stranger needs help with something? Best of luck, I'm reading. Some old friend wants to reconnect? Hello, but I gotta go. Someone makes me feel bad for avoiding them for 22 years, then asks me out? Ohhh, I'm busyyyyyy. Made plans to see someone, forced by that someone? Ohhh, so sorry, something came up. Junkies want to share drugs? Nope, ew, go away. Boss needs me to work during my time off? Nope, not doing it. I didn't play as a jerk. I played as a post-person. I delivered the post, I don't have time for your videostore scheme. Besides, it's illegal. So I had a lot of fun tending to my duties. Frank was breaking the rules? Well, that's Frank's fault, I will tell the truth about everything. Lumberjack guy wants to save the forest? Best of luck, buddy. Here's the thing... at the end of these two weeks: - Old lady was fine - Lumberjack saved the forest - DJ added new songs - Diner thrived - Had sex - Frank came back happy as ever - My parents moved to Florida and gave me their house - I got a free RV and the junkies went away - Got promoted AND got a higher salary ...and all of this WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING :)))))))))))) I laughed my head off at the end, when the radio announced "Well, we're all going to miss you, such an impact on our community bla bla" - I was like, dude, I don't even know who you people are! I didn't talk to anyone more than the game forced me, and I didn't participate in any activity :)))) So I had fun, that's why this game gets a positive review. But I wouldn't call it a good game. It's very pretty, good voice performances, pleasant ambient music, good radio songs (not to my taste, but they're well chosen) and a unique little idea brought to life. But yeah... as far as the story goes... I didn't do anything, everyone loves me at the end, and got a salary increase. 10/10 would ignore people and keep being an introvert again, anytime. Thanks!
I love this cozy, scenic game. I can see myself playing it again. My daughter is going to try it out next. The graphics are really nice. I was pretty pleased with the look of everything. I got a kick out of driving around in The Goose as I admired the town of Providence Oaks. The game itself runs smoothly. I enjoyed the story. I do hope there will be more content added to this game with time. I did buy the Season's Greetings DLC and got to play as Meredith's dad, Thomas, and that was just as enjoyable as playing as Meredith. I liked that you were given a couple of options for romantic partners for Meredith, and that she was given the chance to reconnect with her high school friend, Kay. I do have some disappointments: How short the game is... I finished the game in less than 2 days. The lack of interaction. As an avid Sims and life simulation game player, I am so used to being able to go up to people and talk to them. When I tried to talk to strangers on the street and it wasn't possible, it was a let down. As another reviewer commented, the world felt unrealistic, which was a minor issue for me. But I would have liked to talk to more people and explore more buildings than what there was accessible as well. I do understand that you were only meant to talk to certain people and go into certain establishments. The romantic aspect of the game was incredibly short and vague. I didn't like that the evenings at home after the work days were the same, and Meredith/Thomas was always alone (apart from a phone call/Christmas dinner). It's set in the 80's. It did not really give me the 80's vibe, apart from the Flick Shack. As a huge 80's lover, that is something I'm always disappointed with if something's set in the 80's but doesn't have that nostalgic atmosphere. The last disappointment was the lack of songs on the radio. I was wishing I could play with fun 80's music or rock music in general. :) Overall, I am pretty happy I came across and played this game. I hope to see more games like it. I prefer low stress, fun and interactive (building/decorating/hobby and job/relationship building/etc.) sim games. I would recommend checking Lake out if you like cozy, scenic, simple, story led games.
This is silly but fun. Not too grindy. Days go by well. Treating the postal truck like your own personal GTA vechicle is perfect. I keep finding awesome places to launch it from.
A mid experience. It's not a bad game, the scenery fits the cozy vibe well, and I enjoyed the art style. But beyond that, the game just feels empty and repetitive. The premise of the story is fine, a workaholic woman took a two weeks break from her city life, went back to her home town in Oregon and helped her father deliver mail while he was on a vacation in Florida. But the gameplay is too barebone and the writing is too uninspired to make it work. You work 6 days a week, all you need to do everyday is just driving around and delivering mails, about two third of mails you deliver everyday are irrelevant ones, which means there's no dialogue exchange or any kind of interaction between Meredith and the recipients, so you just go to their home, put the envelope in their mailbox, or put the parcel on their doorstep, and then leave. I know that's what the game is about, but it gets boring very quickly. It would be better if they add a few mini games or something with a little bit of challenge, it's supposed to be a soothing game but that doesn't mean it can't have any gameplay varieties at all, besides, I believe delivering mails is only part of mailmen's job, so that would add more realism to the game as well. About the writing and the character, I feel the writers tried too hard to make it dramatic despite there's no real conflict throughout the entire story, thus many dialogues feel overly done, and many characters feel too stereotypical to be taken serious(and most of them aren't stereotypically funny either). There's two potential love interests but I feel Meredith had chemistry with neither of them, the female one is better but there's no enough buildup before the 'kiss her' option pops up; the relationship between the guy and Meredith feels awkward from the beginning to the end. I planned to go for the 'staying in Providence Oaks' ending at first, but chose to return to Massachusetts in the end cuz I really couldn't see any real connection Meredith would make with any of those characters. I don't know who will find this game fun to play, but I guess if you don't like doing the same basic thing for 10 hours, you probably won't find this game very fun to play(it took me about 5h to complete the DLC Season's Greetings, which is a prequel of the main story, then took about 6h to complete the main story).
