Verdict
✅ Recommended, but mainly for old-school Hitman fans A better and more cinematic sequel than the first game, but still clearly aged today.
My history with the game
I played Hitman 2: Silent Assassin for around 33 minutes on Steam. My opinion is quite similar to Hitman: Codename 47. This is an important older entry in the series, and I respect it, but I would not really recommend it today to everyone in its original form. That being said, I have to admit that for a 2002 game, this already feels more cinematic and more polished than the first Hitman.
Quick signals
💸 Value: ✅ Worth it for retro players and Hitman fans 🖥️ Requirements: ✅ Easy to run, but needs tweaks 🎨 Graphics: ⚠️ Very old today ⏱️ Length: ➖ I played 33 minutes 📖 Story: ✅ More cinematic than the first game 🎮 Gameplay: ⚠️ Old-school and clunky by modern standards 🐛 Bugs / Issues: ⚠️ Needs setup for modern resolutions
What I liked
* It already feels like a stronger and more cinematic sequel compared to Codename 47. * For a 2002 game, the presentation is noticeably better. * You can feel the Hitman formula becoming more confident here. * The atmosphere, missions, and idea of silent assassinations still have historical value. * It is interesting to see how the series evolved from the first game. * I am curious about the remaster and how this game will feel with modern improvements.
What didn’t work for me
* The game has not aged very well. * Controls and gameplay feel old by modern standards. * Like with the first game, I had to search for a Steam guide to set a higher resolution and make it more playable. * Modern players may struggle to enjoy this version without nostalgia. * I would rather play the remaster fully than continue this original version today.
Is it an endless game? How long to beat?
No, this is not an endless game. I personally played 33 minutes, so I cannot fairly judge the full length from this Steam revisit. My review is mostly based on this short return and my impression of how the game feels today.
Who will love it
You may enjoy Hitman 2: Silent Assassin if you are an old-school player, a long-time Hitman fan, or someone who wants to experience the older games in their original form. For new players, I would probably recommend waiting for the remaster or starting with newer Hitman games.
Replay value
Replay value is mostly for nostalgic players and dedicated Hitman fans. For me personally, I do not feel a strong need to continue this original version. I would rather play the remaster from start to finish when it is available.
Final note
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is clearly better than the first game in presentation and cinematic feeling. It is still an important part of the Hitman series, and I respect it for what it was in 2002. But today, it feels old, clunky, and requires extra setup just to run comfortably at higher resolutions. Recommended mainly for old-school players and Hitman fans, but I am personally more interested in playing the remastered version fully.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It holds up well! The missions have reasonable variety in how you can complete them, and doing it well is a nice challenge. This game really establishes the Hitman formula.
For modern PCs, you need to download the dll fix and also enable directplay in your settings.
It's good if you dont try for Silent Assassin
As someone who enjoys the Hitman series, this is surprisingly the only entry that never really clicked with me. I can appreciate what Silent Assassin did for the franchise. It expanded the stealth mechanics, introduced larger and more open levels, and laid the groundwork for what would become the modern Hitman formula. Unfortunately, actually playing it today is far more frustrating than enjoyable. The biggest issue is the inconsistency. The disguise system often feels unreliable, with guards becoming suspicious for reasons that aren't always clear. Missions that should reward careful planning can quickly turn into trial-and-error, making success feel more like luck than skill. The controls haven't aged particularly well either. Agent 47 can feel awkward to move, combat is clunky, and the overall gameplay lacks the smoothness found in later entries. Instead of feeling like a professional assassin, I often felt like I was fighting the game's mechanics. There are certainly memorable missions and a few great ideas throughout the campaign, but I never found the overall experience as satisfying as Codename 47, Contracts, or Blood Money. Those titles felt more refined and more rewarding to master... I completely understand why many fans love Silent Assassin, and I respect its importance to the series. It was a major step forward at the time. But for me, it's the only Hitman game that I finished without ever really enjoying the journey. Sometimes a game can be influential without being your favorite, and that's exactly how I feel about Hitman 2: Silent Assassin.
Finally got around to finishing this game, actually fun to play unlike codename 47. There are 3 missions in Malaysia that take place in the Petronas Towers and it is definitely one of my favorite locations in the series, so cool seeing a building so large it can be used for 3 different missions.
