Just awful and insulting
Since playing the demo front the beginning of next fest i knew i needed this game! the gameplay scared me multiple times and the music fueled me to push through any enemy and obstacle to completion in 1 run playthrough. one of my mvps of the year 2026

Pretty short but it was a GREAT survival horror game. The environments were top notch. The movement was smooth but some camera angles did entering some rooms and combating enemies a little annoying. Nonetheless, this is a great game and scratches the survivor horror itch.
First of all, loved the game. I love me some old school retro style graphics and horror survival. I come from playing the OG (when the game came in the original long box) Resident Evil on the PS1 and this game definitely scratches that itch. Movement in the game is pretty spot on, I will say though if you're doing tank controls, avoid using the joystick for controllers. You're going to hate it but switching to the D-Pad, made the movement way smoother. Camera angles and such I had little complaints on. I noticed during one of the hallways, if you run around the corner to head back into the room with the 3 ships puzzle, if the exploder enemies are near the that door, it was hard to see where exactly I was running. Other then some of those little odd ball things, I can't say I had that many issues with camera placements. Enemies were amazing. Loved the zombies in this, especially the rag doll effects on them and the main character (the zombies with the wrenches can eat a fat one LOL). The first boss fight was a little annoying though. It took me a few tries to get him to charge at me for him to run into the gas canisters to expose his weak points. The 2nd boss fight, it was pretty straight forward but I did almost screw myself over with the ammo and almost had nothing left to actually beat him. Luckily I was able to find something else to take that guy down. The 3rd boss though ..... I loved his mechanics but certain things annoyed me about it. For starters, I liked that the one guy showed up to give you ammo ..... but please change the items that he hands you be random. I was dealing with that boss with only 1 SNUS on hand while on injured status, it sucked lol. The other thing that kinda didn't make sense to me was that the first two bosses didn't have these abilities and you probably would think they would due to them being more progressed then the final boss but his little AOE attack didn't really fit with the rest of the game or enemies. When I saw him do that I immediately thought "well ..... that's new and out of place". Inventory system was basic but for a game like this, it worked perfectly. My one and only main complaint about this game is MY GOD DOES THE MAIN CHARACTER RELOAD HIS WEAPON LIKE A 95 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH ARTHRITIS. There were a lot of deaths that involved me trying to reload (from my knowledge, there's only one way to reload and that's hitting the reload button) and it took the guy years to just eject the mag and then an additional year to insert a new one and then rack it. Please, speed that animation up a little bit or let people combine the ammo to the gun in the inventory. This kind of ties with the final boss fight, the NPC kept giving pistol ammo which is fine but if I'm trying to run around a room with 0 ammo in gun, I'm trying to dodge being smacked, shot and AOEs. Only thing I did not test was being able to reload while moving, if you can, well then I suck LOL. Still, I think that animation for reloading could be sped up just a little bit. Soundtrack, on point. No complaints other than we could use more metal music during the game ;) The story to me felt kinda basic but I liked it. It didn't need to be crazy over the top but just enough to grab your attention to see it through. The NPCs in the game, I loved them all. The captain was my favorite "Skal!" Overall, great game with some great vibes. Worth the pickup in my book!
Amazing horror game in that classic Resident Evil style with top notch soundtrack Also Krufs is a good bubble
Heavy Metal Death Can is, in many respects, a commendable entry into the survival horror genre. If you're a fan of the PS1-era classics, there's plenty here to scratch that nostalgia itch. The setting is genuinely unique and refreshing, avoiding the tired trope of yet another Spencer Mansion clone. Resource management, exploration, puzzle-solving, and the tension that defines classic survival horror are all present and accounted for. Unfortunately, what ultimately soured the experience for me was a design decision that effectively soft locks players who don't possess prior knowledge of what's coming. Throughout the game, you're introduced to a unique weapon: the flare gun. Without venturing too far into spoiler territory, both the game's lore and certain enemy encounters encourage you to treat its ammunition as a precious resource. Naturally, I conserved it wherever possible, assuming the game was rewarding careful resource management in the traditional survival horror fashion. Instead, I reached the final boss only to discover that my earlier decisions had left me in an effectively unwinnable situation. Rather than feeling punished for poor strategy, it felt like I was being punished for lacking foreknowledge. Yes you can receive pistol ammo during this boss fight, however the boss is so incredibly tanky added with the slow reload of your pistol, makes this frustrating. To be fair to the developer, they've acknowledged that this section may need adjustment, which I appreciate. However, in its current state, I've simply run out of patience. Repeatedly sitting through the same cutscene dialogue only to get stun locked into a corner and die over and over again isn't challenging or rewarding, it's exhausting. There's a genuinely good survival horror game here, but right now it's being held back by a design choice that turns careful resource management into a trap for first-time players. Assuming this is rectified I'd be more than happy to change this to a positive review, but I am not restarting an entire playthrough now with the benefit of hindsight. - EDIT I am happy to report, that the developer/s have acknowledged my concern and have addressed it in their latest patch, rectifying the issues I had reported earlier.
Worthy addition to the classic survival horror come back. Everything felt well balanced and rewarded good skills. The story reminded me a little of crow country with a lot of random NPCs to find, as well as a good mystery to solve. Controls felt tight and responsive. Beat the game in one afternoon.
