Take The Shape of Evil as Michael Myers or save your neighbors as a Hero of Haddonfield in Halloween, the ultimate asymmetrical horror sandbox.
As Michael, players wear the mask, become the Boogeyman, and stalk innocent residents with relentless obsession. Utilizing a nightmarish array of abilities, Michael leverages shadows and stealth to satisfy his bloodthirst. This doesn’t mean Haddonfield is going down without a fight. Frightened townsfolk will call the local authorities and even fight back when threatened, incentivizing Michael to avoid detection. And for the first time ever, fans of the transformative original film will have the option to witness the haunting narrative events surrounding "The Night He Came Home" through the eyes of Michael Myers in a standalone singleplayer story mode.

In dynamic and ever-changing 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer matches, hero players must arm themselves with everyday household items, weapons, and knowledge to combat an unpredictable and unkillable enemy. Convincing townsfolk and contacting the police will lead to increasingly powerful and thorough neighborhood patrols. To even the odds, you can command and equip NPCs with weapons to outsmart or even overpower The Shape, providing precious windows for escape.
This immersive horror sandbox is powered by Unreal Engine 5 to deliver engaging and dynamic gameplay systems, life-like NPCs, hauntingly realistic visuals, cinema-quality lighting, and endless scares for you and your friends. Asymmetrical horror comes home in Halloween.

I really want to like this game, but as it stands, my feelings are very mixed. On the one hand, it's fun to play as Michael, stalking civilians, figuring out how to best execute them. On the other hand, it can be woefully dull trying to make your way around the map, searching for people to eliminate. I think the "story mode" does a good job of tutorialising how to play as Michael; it would have been nice if they included something similar for playing as a civilian. I spent many hours bumming around the map with very little idea of what to do. I guess I went into this game pretty clueless, as in I didn't watch any gameplay or other videos becaue I wanted a fresh experience. I was expecting something more along the lines of Friday the 13th The Game. I think maybe having the options for smaller maps might be good down the line. These were always the more fun, chaotic games in F13. The "Shape Shift" mechanic (or whatever it's called) is a good build on the map jump and shift mechanic Jason had, but it can be a little buggy sometimes. I know MM is more about the quiet, methodical stalking over the blunt, brute force of Jason, but having the ability to get the jump on civilian players would be neat. I can certainly see the vision and I think there's something here. There need to be more gamemodes and more tutorialisation of how to play, and I don't want the simplified crap with explanations and pictures that F13 had. All it needs to be is simple missions like the challenges in F13, where you actually get a feel for what you're doing as a civilian. Like the issue I have with the map as MM, it can feel a little sprawling as a civilian and somewhat directionless. This is probably something that will change over time as I play more of the game and get used to the environments. I have only had about 15 matches so far and I'm still getting used to what it is I'm actually supposed to be doing! This feels like a game that requires quite a lot of time to dedicate to and being a teacher, I am sadly lacking in this :^( Obviously, there is a lot of work to do for this game, and I really hope it isn't abandoned. I don't think that Halloween is in any kind of legal purgatory like F13 was. Matches are fun (for the most part). The waiting once you die or escape is incredibly boring. The "minigames" (QTEs) you do to boost remaining players is not a solution to this. Possibly having an option to join shorter games would solve this. At the moment, waiting in lobby just to receive your XP is borderline insufferable. I appreciate that they had issues with people leaving in F13, but then maybe they need to incentivise staying more and actually give you something to do outside of QTEs or sometimes coming back as a cop and Loomis. Bit of a ramble. I believe you can make this something genuinely fun, Illfonic. F13 was great, let this be, too. I'll leave this as "recommend," with the caveat that Steam doesn't have a middle ground.
