Hacknet is an immersive, terminal-based hacking simulator for PC. Dive down a rabbit hoIe as you follow the instructions of a recently deceased hacker, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports.

Excellent game! Initially I passed by this because it looks like a programming game, in actuality it's more of a command line puzzle tasking you to follow clues from server to server rather than write code. Pick it up if you enjoy logic puzzles and don't mind a lot of reading.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This might just be the 10 years since launch, or my actual experience with computers, but the gameplay loop feels a bit off (pun not intended) for me. The tutorial got me curious enough with the plot to get through, but there is no substance in the base game. Haven't played the DLC, not interested. If you are into looking at hacker-looking interfaces and typing the same half a dozen commands over and over (tab complete and up key for history available), you will enjoy it. If you want anything that is anymore puzzling than following clear instructions, look elsewhere. Basically: 1- open an email, 2- click email attachments for a target IP and maybe add a mission summary note to the screen, 3- click a button to connect to said IP and click another button to Probe the system, 4- run the same 2-5 commands on the same list of ports, 5- browse the filesystem to either find or place a file at mostly the same folders, 6- erase all logs and disconnect, 7- repeat. That's it. The game has a simplified terminal emulator missing a few basic features but fine, you can mostly use it to get things done instead of the GUI except when emailing (mostly). There are no puzzles, the exploits are literal executables you run and wait, the only variability is whether the target machine has proxies or a firewall then you gotta login into a bunch of places you already hacked first and run a shell overload (run and wait) then run a firewall analyzer to unscramble a keyword (run and read). Sometimes you gotta disconnect before a tracing timer runs out, which is never an issue until a single mission has like a 3 seconds timer but same difference. If you do *somehow* get traced, you might need to do the one different thing and change your IP address by... following steps 1 through 6! Or just reboot. Yeah, that's it: steps 1-7, sprinkle disconnects according to timer and if something fails just reboot and resume as usual is the whole game. There are two routes if you accept an optional mission but rest assured, same gameplay eveywhere.
Саундтрек Carpenter Brut и Remi Gallego (The Algorithm) качает synthwave - в рейдах пульсирует, в сканах напрягает ambient.
Hacknet does a great job making you feel like you're actually navigating a computer system without becoming overwhelmingly complex. The command-line interface is approachable, and uncovering the story through missions is surprisingly engaging. It's a clever hacking simulator that's both immersive and consistently fun from beginning to end.
Very disappointed I have to use a mouse. All the work put in to making it look like a terminal, but it's just point and click. Could have been much better with a keyboard only option for the "hacking" aspect.
Fun but not super accurate hacking game. Good way to pass a few hours.
Final ask Al. Are you a hacker or what?
Hacknet is an okay game, but it gets repetitive quickly. If you're unable to suspend your disbelief, this game might not be for you. That being said, Hacknet does have some redeeming qualities. The game can serve as a tool for learning basic Linux commands, as the game involves spamming common terminal commands like, ls, cd, rm and scp. Additionally, I enjoyed the creative liberties taken in the game's "hacking" mechanics. For example, I liked the ability to hack a fake cookie clicker and achieve a top score. The actual hacking tools feel disengaging -- "SSHCrack 22 -> wait 5 seconds for it to finish "cracking" -> Porthack -> wait for it to finish "hacking" -> youre in. Overall, while Hacknet has some interesting elements, it ultimately feels like a shallow experience with limited replay value.
