Fallout® 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed game that took RPG'ing out of the dungeons and into a dynamic, apocalyptic retro-future. It's been 80 long years since your ancestors trod across the wastelands.

Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 3.71/day in the week to Jul 30 → 2.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Don't bother playing this game without the unofficial patch or restoration mod. I did, and I regret it. This game is full of huge bugs without it. Luckily they weren't game breaking (for me) like they were with the first, but they did force me to take a violent route to get things, when I didn't want to, especially because most have to do with dialogue and quest options not triggering when they should. It negatively impacted my first experience, so don't let it happen to yours. That said, I enjoyed my time playing this game, and I liked it much more than the first.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 8: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Before anything some technical issues: There seems to be an issue with Steam's cloud saving feature, that will sometimes screw up save files. I myself lost a few hours because of it. The game also crashed every once in a while, and there were some major lag spikes when entering different city areas. I'm a bit more mixed about this than Fallout 1. That one I consider among the best crafted games of all time. This game is much bigger, hell it's a big game by today's standards. That's not even accounting for different runs and decisions you can make. It has a lot more focus on combat, and is more difficult. I liked that. The worst thing is definitely the "humor". There are on-the-nose pop culture references, self-referential and 4th wall breaks absolutely everywhere, and like 50% of your dialouge choices are like the Fallout 4's (sarcastic) dialouge options. At times it feels like a Marvel movie. It definitely detracts from the enjoyment of the story, because the actual story isn't some whacky hi-jinks. You're dealing with some serious issues like drugs, slavery and even genocide. To be a little fair the heavier subjects are usually handled a little more seriously. The Enclave are some seriously devious, and interesting villains. The different communities and societies you come across are very distinct and different from each other. The story continues on from Fallout 1. A version of events that you might not have actually chosen in that game. That might put some people off, but I kind of like that. It was a little disappointing that the talking heads were a lot fewer. I also missed the option to just ask about whatever I could type a little bit, that was a flavorful option. One could say a lot about the companion system. But to keep it simple; I think it worked decently well, and was mostly improved from Fallout 1. It has its frustrating moments for sure. The basis is a great game. That is brought down by a few, but significant flaws.
One of the best Fallout entries and a great game from 1998. The RPG elements in this game should be a standard for future games.
Once you play Fallout 2 you will never stop wanting to beat Todd Howard to death with your bare hands.
Fallout 2

Outdated and Unrewarding Post-Apocalyptic RPG

Not really worth trying
Fallout 2 is a classic turn-based RPG game with an interesting post-nuclear setting, a vast open world, engaging side quests, and a flexible progression system. Unfortunately, it is also a title with terrible gameplay design, featuring rough controls, poorly explained game mechanics, unclear character attributes, and an unintuitive interface. Honestly, this game is very frustrating at the beginning, mainly because of its unbalanced early enemy encounters, combined with an aimless exploration experience. Another major issue is the game's performance. I occasionally experienced frame rate drops, visual glitches affecting textures and the interface, as well as occasional freezes. Overall, I cannot recommend this title. It suffers from too many technical and gameplay issues that make it difficult to really enjoy.
Gameplay
The gameplay is heavily centered around turn-based combat and exploration. Nonetheless, Combat feels very uncomfortable and slow from the very beginning. Every encounter relies heavily on a hit chance system, where the attack accuracy is influenced by our character's attributes, skills, weapons and the distance between our character and the target. The accuracy of most of our attacks usually remains below 50%, making every encounter unnecessarily risky, and incredibly slow with low looting and experience rewards for the effort involved. Like in the first game, random encounters can occur while traveling across the world map. Some of these are fight encounters that are practically impossible to overcome. In many cases, your party spawns completely surrounded by creatures or enemies equipped with superior gear, leaving almost no opportunity to escape or fight back. It is incredibly frustrating to reload your save over and over again just to reach your destination, or to save thee game every few tiles to continue making progress. The item management is awful, the interface is extremely slow and unintuitive, and there isn’t any real explanation of how to use consumable items to heal your character or how to use key items required to progress through the game, making it a difficult and rough experience not only for new players but also for returning veterans who no longer remember many of the game's systems. On the other hand, the skill system feels very underused. Despite offering a wide variety of skills to invest in, the game provides too few skill points per level up, making meaningful specialization or build experimentation unnecessarily restrictive. Leveling up is also a very slow process. Skill progression often requires a lot of grinding or exploiting nearly every available source of experience, such as stealing, lockpicking, or repeatedly fighting enemies.
Art and World Design
Honestly, this title is visually unpleasant and uninspired. The environments feel incredibly flat and poorly scaled, with very misleading distances and obstacles during combat and exploration. Sometimes, it is really difficult to know if a target can actually be hit, as the isometric perspective and line-of-sight system often make it unclear if walls or other obstacles are blocking a shot. On the other hand, most of the characters feel rather one-dimensional, existing only to fulfill their role as NPCs. Beyond one or two quests, they rarely offer any meaningful interactions, character development, or any lasting impact in the story. The character designs are very uncanny, which is somehow understandable given the time in which the game was made. The 3D models used for cutscenes and dialogue sequences look really stiff and lifeless, they have not aged particularly well. The visual style of this title belongs to the classic era of the Fallout series, featuring a dirtier, grittier, and more grotesque aesthetic. This is especially noticeable in the environmental design, with desolate, muddy, and decaying landscapes, as well with the character designs. Creatures such as the ghouls and mutants have a far more disturbing and grotesque appearance on the first entries, reinforcing the game's sober post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
Music and Sound effects
The soundtrack is not particularly remarkable, as many tracks from the first game are reused on this sequel, while several ambient themes are repeated across different locations, making the music feel very repetitive over time. The sound design is primarily indicative and functional, serving mainly as audio cues rather than a memorable game audio experience.
