Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 364/day in the week to Jul 17 → 1.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
Eastward is a beautifully detailed and charming adventure game, from Shanghai-based indie developers, Pixpil.
In the near-future, society is starting to collapse, and the human population is at an all-time low. A deadly toxic presence has spread across the land, destroying and devouring everything in its path.
Those who could escape the miasma flocked to underground villages to start a new life. But for a hardworking miner and a mysterious young girl, the hope of a thriving outside world beckons…
Escape the tyrannical clutches of Potcrock Isle's subterranean society and join Eastward’s unlikely duo on an exciting adventure to the land above! Discover beautiful yet bizarre settlements and make new friends as you travel across the world by rail.
Contains adult humour and some mature themes.
Discover the wonderfully weird world of Eastward. Climb aboard the cross-country railway which spans this decaying continent, stopping off to explore its bustling towns, curious campsites and shady forests.
Fend off peculiar monsters and ferocious bosses with John’s weapon of choice - be it a flamethrower, cog-shooter or your trusty ol’ frying pan. Feeling merciful? Try temporarily stunning them with Sam’s kinetic blast.
Switch between John and Sam to solve environmental puzzles and fight your way through formidable dungeons. Separate the duo to unlock hidden paths or stick together as you traverse a perilous landscape.
Get to know a quirky cast of characters with oodles of personality! Immerse yourself in a heartwarming story-driven adventure, packed with fun and wacky humour.
Create deliciously authentic Eastwardian cuisine using (mostly) fresh, organic ingredients from toxic forests, potcrab farms and abandoned malls. These delicacies will grant health bonuses, power boosts and secret boons.
Bop along to a wonderfully upbeat soundtrack composed by Joel Corelitz (Death Stranding, Hohokum, The Unfinished Swan), with sound design from Irish studio, Hyperduck Soundworks (Dust: An Elysian Tail, Kingdom Rush)

It's not the "world's best action-adventure game", but it will still leave a good taste in passing. Some people may not like the story or its ending that much, but personally, I had a great time. The art is colorful, vibrant, and cheerful when it needs to be, as well as subtly sick and even gross at other times if it wants to. This is what I would call an "artist's game", where the art direction supercedes gameplay, and makes for a stunning, but sometimes a bit lacking in play, experience. Not for everyone, but if you enjoy action-adventure games, go ham.

+++ Beautiful world and premise that begs for exploration. +++ Adorable and well-animated character design. +++ Cute, catchy, memorable music. --- Egregious pace-breaking excess of cutscenes and dialogue. --- No backtracking, leading to permanently missable upgrade resources. --- Frustrating combat hitboxes. This is a heartbreaking conclusion to reach. On the surface, all the ingredients are present to make for a fantastic adventure in a world that awaits discovery. All this comes apart when the rubber meets the road. It's quite difficult to play the game proper when the overwhelming majority of its content is centered on cutscenes that make the experience border on walking simulator with occasional combat zones attached to it. The combat itself can be a bit of a mixed bag due to the double-character gameplay, resulting in the follower character taking a hit that the leader character widely evaded - and thus losing health more frequently than one would've thought fair. It's a great story full of twists and turns and all manners of amazing craziness - but its script belongs in an Anime series, not in a video game.
It's very tough to give a simple yes/no review for this game, but ultimately I have to say I can't recommend it, even though it's very obvious that the devs put in a lot of effort and skill. Good points: - Art style + direction. The artistry is world-class; the cover art was enough to make me get the game in the first place. Every sprite for every character/item/etc. is appealing and lovingly-made, and the animations, too. The level backgrounds are very well-dressed; there's not a single area in the game that looks bland. - Level design. This point goes hand-in-hand with the first. Each level stays thematically-consistent while being visually-diverse across every section. You'll never feel that any level feels samey. I never felt lost at any point in the game, and whenever I wanted to backtrack, I knew exactly where to go, thanks to this. - Cooking. It's just fun to cook :) Every game should have cooking mechanics. Bad points: - The writing. To me, the game tries and fails to tell a more serious, complex story than it really can. I didn't really feel the weight of the stakes involved with the main plot, nor did I feel moved by the protagonists' motivations and their journey through the world. Also, the text in the transition screens between levels is confusing; I'm not sure if it's due to things being lost in translation? I-feel-bad-for-saying-they're-bad points: - The side game. The devs didn't just create a workable old-school JRPG in their own game (with its own separate save mechanics), but they also made a fully- (and as expected beautifully-) illustrated old-school "guide book" for it in-game, too. It's complete with everything you'd expect in one, from character profiles to explanation of mechanics. On top of this, they made a gachapon system where you can draw figurines for it. Which is why it pains me to say that I fully lost interest in it after an hour into playing it, on-and-off. I was way more interested in going through the main game, instead. I hope others actually enjoyed it. - The programming. The mechanics are neat and the devs have some neat ideas, but the mechanics can get a little janky. Also there's a recurring bug where the menu screen will pop up without pausing the game, without a consistent reason, either. It even happened to me once during a boss fight, so I ended up going through the fight with the menu open the whole time. Overall, I hope the devs continue to make games. I believe that if they improve their storytelling, they can make some really good games in the future.
Visually I really liked the game. It also looked like something I might like from the trailers. But I don't like it.. The story is too rushed and doesn't make sense, the characters seem stupid because of it within a few hours of playing and it was unbearable.. The game mechanics are fine but repetitive. The pixel art is amazing but that's about it..
Eastward is honestly my game of the year. It has a beautiful art style, great story line, perfect moments where you just have to keep playing to find out what happens, moments that make you laugh, moments that make you cry. I loved watching the relationship between Sam and John grow throughout the game. The battling and puzzles in this game are the perfect amount of challenging. Not super easy all the time that you're bored, not so hard that you want to quit and never play ever again. Octopia DLC: For how cheap the DLC it is incredible and adds so much more play time to the game. So far loving the story behind it. It's insane how well it is done for a game that wasn't even made to be a farming sim. I love that I can continue to see and communicate with the characters from the game even if it isn't the same story line. Love it so much. Overall I love this game dearly and it's definitely going down as one of my favorite games.
I'm so grateful for a fast forward button. Visually the game is beautiful and has a great aesthetic, but the story leaves me with more questions than answers. I wish there was a neutral option to review. Play it if you like cute pixel games with hopeful end of the world stories, I guess, but don't expect to get heavily invested. Most of the characters are naive to the point of actual stupidity, and deliberately vague about things to the point of frustration. It doesn't feel like there's much character growth, and it's hard to feel anything for any of the side characters since their backgrounds and motivations aren't explained. And don't get me started about how long camera panning or fade to black/scene changing takes. Why are the characters just standing around wibbling for several minutes, forcing you to have to FFW? Who gave the green light to that? The combat is okay and well animated, and the music is decent. It was an overall just...mid experience I guess, but I also harbor some resentment that Starbound flopped hard so this could be made. It's about a 6/10 for me.
