Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

I am a big fan of this series, but this game is a definite low point for Dragon Quest. The story is very bland, with a really good premise, but an execution that boils down to little more than "Go to island, play through 45 minute questline that's mostly just cutscenes and 1-2 boss fights." The characters are a serious step down from other entries in the series like 8, 11, or 2HD2D. While they all have interesting concepts, they almost never actually take part in the events of the story. You'll only get their input if you press a button on the overworld that is just them giving you hints on how to progress. The only one with a real personality leaves your party about 1/4 of the way through. The vocation system (A favorite of mine from the series) is used horribly here. Moonlighting as a mechanic is a cool idea, but you can only use the spells/abilities from your currently equipped classes, meaning you're not so much building as you are picking 2 from a list and that's your "build". The biggest letdown to me is the difficulty. This game is EASY. I played on the hardest difficulty, and grew so bored that I found little reason to keep playing. Maybe 1 fight was actually difficult and required a small grind to beat. While it's still a DQ game, meaning it's got great music, art, animations, and little to no bugs. It just doesn't hold up to the rest of the series. 5/10

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 2: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 4.5/day in the week to Aug 5 → 3.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A Beautiful Remake That Still Feels Stuck in the Past Mixed / Not Recommended TL;DR: Strong presentation and classic charm, but dragged down by outdated pacing, fragmented storytelling, confusing optional content, and a progression system that can trivialise Hard mode. Feels more like preservation than a meaningful remake. ~6.5/10 I finished this at around 60 hours, and my overall feeling is that this is a polished remake of a game that probably needed a more fundamental rethink. There is a lot to like at first. The presentation is strong, the world still has that classic Dragon Quest charm, and the episodic structure can be interesting in small doses. Some quality-of-life improvements also make it far more approachable than older versions. On a surface level, this looks like exactly the kind of remake fans would want. The problem is that once the novelty wears off, the age of the design starts to show everywhere. The pacing is the biggest issue. Even in remake form, this still feels extremely long for what it actually delivers. Large sections drag on far past the point where they stop being interesting, especially in the final stretch. What should feel climactic instead feels exhausting. By the time the game reaches its final act, it starts to resemble an endurance test more than an adventure. The story also feels oddly fragmented. Dragon Quest VII has always been structured around many smaller self-contained scenarios, and that approach still works sometimes, but it comes at the cost of momentum and emotional payoff. The main cast never feels as developed or as connected to the central conflict as they should. Important reveals arrive very late, and several story threads feel underexplained or strangely detached from the rest of the journey. Instead of building toward a powerful conclusion, the narrative often feels like it is jumping between isolated ideas that never fully come together. The optional Gray Tablet content is also a good example of the game’s design problems. These scenarios often feel like minor melodramas that add little or nothing to the main story, yet the game gives very little indication that they are optional dead ends with no progression fragments attached. After training the player for dozens of hours to search every corner for fragments, the game suddenly expects them to understand that some of these episodes simply do not matter. That is not meaningful side content design; it is just muddy communication. Progression balance is another weak point, especially on Draconian. At one stage, the difficulty effectively collapsed because vocation progression pushed grinding in an awkward direction. Vocation XP gain is slow enough that getting specific classes for certain characters can require extended overworld grinding, and that in turn leaves the party overlevelled for the main story. The result is a strange balance problem where Hard mode can become trivial not because of smart party building or system mastery, but because the game’s own vocation structure nudges the player into levelling past the intended challenge. That undercuts both the difficulty setting and the sense of progression. There are other issues like this throughout the game. Some mysteries seem like they are being set up for major payoff and then go nowhere. Some character interactions that should be central are barely addressed. Some late story developments feel abrupt rather than earned. The remake improves the presentation, but it does not really solve the deeper structural and narrative weaknesses. That is why this ends up feeling less like a definitive reimagining and more like a very expensive preservation project. It looks better, plays more smoothly, and trims some friction, but it still carries so much of the original game’s outdated design that the experience can feel hollow by the end. This is not a bad game. There is charm here, and longtime Dragon Quest fans may still get a lot out of it. But for me, this was a 6.5/10 experience: competent, occasionally enjoyable, often attractive, but ultimately too bloated, too dated, and too emotionally distant to justify its length. A respectable remake on the surface, but one that never fully answers the question of why this particular game needed to be remade in the first place.
I'd only pick this one up at half price or lower. The quality of the game constantly ebbs and flows depending on the arc, and the narrative as a whole is greatly bogged down by just being plain directionless. I'm 37 hours in and I still haven't met/don't even have a proper name for the game's main villain, all we have is a vague title. UPDATE: Beat the game and the final 1/3 of the journey is of significantly higher quality, to the point where my feelings are positive overall, but just barely. This is a game for more dedicated Dragon Quest/RPG fans than a casual who is just getting started for the genre. It requires immense patience to get anything out of it.
