Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
I don't actually have much bad to say about DQ3, and can think of a lot of people I'd recommend it to, but I tend to write reviews in the vein of something I would've liked to have read before getting the game, and were I talking to my past self, I would have given it this thumbs down. Dragon Quest 3 is a classic game, by which I mean an old game, ancient even; In all ways but audiovisual (and the odd QOL improvement) it's an NES JRPG. If you're doing a full run-through of the entire series and want the definitive edition of each game, then this is probably the version of DQ3 you'd want. If you're a burgeoning videogame historian and both wish to see how these older games were but do not want to find a way to play the original versions, then I guess this is good for you too. Lastly, if you have some incredible nostalgia for the original in particular, I can see this as a good way to relive those memories with some extra little frills to make it stand in line with its contemporaries. However, outside of those 3 reasons, I can't think of a single thing this game does that isn't outdone by almost everything that has been released since, both from the outside world and this game's own franchise. If you want a simple, easy-to-understand JRPG with amusing (and frankly phenomenal) voice acting, a cheery cast of strange and wonderful characters, enemy names and designs that'll be giving you chuckles the whole way through, and a comfortable story about heroes and villains, then just play any of the later entries of the Dragon Quest series. The game's presentation clearly takes centre stage when compared to its mechanics, and so playing a later entry designed for more modern machines that can better deliver on that promise feels like a no-brainer. I'd personally recommend DQ11 for that, since all the DQ games play almost identically and that one is just superior in every aspect I can imagine to this game, whilst being almost half the price. If you're thinking of dipping your toes into this series and don't know where to start, I can't think of a better place, as going back to play these older ones feels more like a chore as they look, feel, sound and play worse to DQ11. If you're interested in more mechanical depth and creativity in your JRPGs, then you are probably better off avoiding DQ as a whole. It's a mindless, grindfest autobattler for most of the game and without a whole lot of crunch to really get into, which just isn't the favour of RPG for me, hence the colour of the review. I can barely even describe it with just how bland it can be, like if you were to ask yourself "What does a game need in order to be a JRPG" and wrote a checklist for it, and then proceeded to make a game out of a checklist whilst adding nothing else. Your imagination will have to do the rest, I'm afraid. If you want a game with creative and innovative gameplay ideas, this isn't it. If you want a game to challenge you, this isn't it. If you want a game to whisk you away into an epic story with memorable characters, this isn't it. If you want a game that requires you to think hard and engage with its systems, this isn't it. If you do not want (or simply do not care about) any of those things, then just get DQ11 instead, it will be this but better, I promise.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 3: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake

Vote 79 ✅
It's my first time playing this Dragon Quest saga, and I have to say it's a very nice remake. It's a well-made remake with beautiful art direction that brings a very dated product back to life. Unfortunately, the grind weighs down the game a lot, as does the stressful enemy spawning, which completely ruins exploration and makes it frustrating. It would be right to balance such an intense spawn in dungeons, while drastically reducing spawning during the open world and exploration without having to use various abilities to skip fights. The grind can be circumvented thanks to easy mode, fortunately, since endlessly spamming a single button just to level for hours and hours isn't very fun for me. Otherwise, it's an excellent remake. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2701660/DRAGON_QUEST_III_HD2D_Remake/
I just finished this game and immediately jumped into the first Dragon Quest entry. Visually, the game is stunning. The 2D-HD style is gorgeous, and I especially loved the transition between Dawn, Noon, Dusk, and Night in every location. It reminded me a lot of the time system in Octopath Traveler II. For those who played the original version back in the day, seeing their favorite game remade like this must be an incredibly exciting experience. Regarding the music—while it can get a bit repetitive in certain areas—it's still very much enjoyable. However, there is one major drawback for me: the total lack of character development for your party members. This entry is a complete 180-degree turn from Dragon Quest XI. Your party members feel like living dolls who simply follow the Hero around to save the world without any personal stakes or dialogue. On the bright side, the grinding is very reasonable and rewarding. I always felt motivated to save up for new gear in every town I visited. Plus, the AI is surprisingly competent; if your level is high enough, you don't even need to micromanage combat. In fact, I defeated the final boss using the "Fight Wisely" AI command. A solid experience, but don't expect the deep party interactions found in modern JRPGs.

Biggest problem up front: there is a slight delay at the end of combat. You cannot immediately click through the dialogue and must wait for the musical sting. This small delay FEELS bad. It comes across like input lag. Couple this with autobattle and it feels like a significant portion of your combat input doesn't actually work. You spend most of the game in combat. You spend most of combat in autobattle. You will fail to forward the victory dialogue as the game pointlessly delays you TENS OF THOUSANDS of times. Right from the first trailers I was hooked, enthralled even, but my enthusiasm and enjoyment bled away bit by bit until continuing was a slog. I did finish, but by the end I was exhausted. The world itself is very faithful to the original and a stunning recreation. For my money, this series doesn't really start cooking until DQ4, so that may be why I appreciate, but don't love the game world. I think combat is where the real trouble starts. The camera is so zoomed out that enemies don't feel at all immediate and threatening. Even in the most recent entry of DQ11 the camera puts the enemies right in your face, making even baby squid seem an urgent problem. I feel distant from the shallow characters, the mute party, and the autobattle that occurs at a safe distance.
at some point around king nerd telling me he'll only let me continue with the plot if i traipse across half the continent to get some pepper from peppertown, then going there and seeing the only pepper salesman in peppertown run off to get kidnapped, then going through an annoying dungeon to rescue mr. pepper only to find out he doesn't have any dang pepper but if you just head up to this other town there's surely pepper there, is when i realised that a remake of an old bad game is just a new bad game
