Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

First of all, I’m a lifelong fan of the Dragon Quest series. Dragon Quest was one of my first RPG experiences, and it holds a very special place in my heart. I started with Dragon Quest VI on the SNES, and ever since emulation became a thing, I’ve always wanted to play DQIII in English on SNES. Back then, the translation wasn’t great and the font looked odd. This version of the game is basically perfect, with only minor annoyances that are easy to overlook. Honestly, I don’t think Dragon Quest III can get any better than this. The 2D-HD aesthetic fits the Dragon Quest gameplay perfectly. I’d even argue that Dragon Quest VII on PS1 pioneered this concept, so it’s ironic that DQVII won’t be remade using this art style. When I say this is the perfect version of the game, I mean it. The sprite work is fantastic, the soundtrack is beautifully arranged, and the sound effects are spot-on—they hit all the nostalgic notes that make you feel good: striking an enemy, finding a small medal, falling into a pit, opening a door. It captures the essence of the original while delivering a stunning upgrade. The translation work is excellent, as it has been since the DS era. Some people argue that the localization changes too much from the Japanese original, but don’t listen to that criticism. Every change is approved by the original developers, and the Dragon Quest localization team is incredibly dedicated to maintaining consistency in names and lore across the series. My only concern is that modern gamers might not fully appreciate the charm of this game. Dragon Quest is meant to be a relaxing, sometimes tense adventure. The world is simple: you’re a hero, evil is evil, and you must defeat it. You’re brave, strong, and clever, and you’ll outsmart your opponents in battle. The difficulty—if you choose the classic Dragon Quest setting—is just right to keep you on your toes. Everything is simple by design: the world is colorful and inviting, nothing overly complex. It’s familiar and comforting, with excellent monster designs and a straightforward core loop: visit a town, talk to everyone, learn the lore, upgrade your gear, solve the local quest, and move on. Repeat. It’s classic, and it’s great. I’m looking forward to seeing Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI in this style. Personally, I’m not a fan of the generic “pick-up characters at the bar” approach, which later titles improved significantly. And in case you didn’t know: Dragon Quest influenced countless aspects of Japanese game design. Dark Souls owes a lot to Dragon Quest. Pokémon owes a lot to Dragon Quest. Final Fantasy started as a Dragon Quest clone. Its influence is legendary. So yeah—10/10.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 3: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Was disappointed by this. I've played later dragon quest games and really enjoyed them, but the difficulty inconsistency in this one was really odd. Some monsters are randomly incredibly hard, and the only other difficulty selection you can make to ease it makes it so you can't die. Something in between normal and baby mode would be nice. Also the saving and loading is incredibly archaic. Rather than a simple "continue" option to load your most recent save, the game makes you choose between auto save, regular save, and quicksave, any of which could be your most recent file if you don't specifically remember how you exited the game. Super annoying.
