Favorite of all the Doom games!

One of the greatest games by id Software, a boni fide classic for sure.
I played this as a kid and I think I completed it. over 20 years later and I'm playing it again. having played all the Doom games except dark ages, I'm pretty sure this is my favourite in the whole franchise. I love the atmosphere. The dark ambience, the PDA audio logs with decent voice acting. It does a good job of world building, very similar to Half-Life, which I think is next on my list to revisit. I haven't bothered with the BFG edition because I read they made is easier and toned down the darkness, but the darkness and atmospheric environments are a big part of what makes this so great to me. I love the evil forces in these old games, it's straight up satanic hell with tons of blood and gore, very metal. 10/10 game, it's a blast to revisit.
DOOM
Jogo antigo mais ainda muito bom
Alongside Dead Space 1 - 3 this is a GEM! 10/10
Highly recommend the OG (I want to play the BFG Edition next) for an absolute blast of a horror gaming experience. I'd say this isn't really your classic 'DOOM' game, it's more of a survival-horror/adventure take on the DOOM series that never really went anywhere except this game. 2016 tries its hand at horror a few times but never to the level I think that 3 managed to achieve. The characters, PDAs, voice acting, neat little secrets, weapons, and sound design are all some of the best that the series has to offer. That being said my opinion on Tim Willits' definition of difficulty is rather disappointing. Teleporting a bunch of random ass demons in, not thinking about the encounter itself, and making every item a 'trap' doesn't build suspense. What it does do is that it build predictability. I found myself slugging along through the mid game with tedious encounter after encounter. There was a point where I started asking myself "oh boy, what's going to spawn this time?" thinking of how it'd play out. It grew boring. Legitimately grew boring. If the regular combat weren't as good as it was, I think I would've given up and played on something less than Veteran to just see the story. This game's difficulty is MIDDLING and it's the one big gripe I have about it (other than the level design in the third half). That all said if you're looking for a fun adventure/horror/FPS experience that kind of takes the formula of your classic DOOM and flips it around to be more like a Resident Evil 4/Half-Life esque journey? This is absolutely the game I'd recommend. Hell, if you're new to the series, this game is definitely a great place to start in terms of pacing. All in all, 8/10 game. While not perfect (no game really is, it's only opinion) it does have unique strengths that are strong enough to get past the (in my opinion) half-assed difficulty of encounters and some questionable level design later on.
