RPG
The level design ranges from mediocre to offensive, the bosses are some of the most phoned-in, anticlimactic fights in any game I've ever played, and even things as simple as the movement are botched, due to the weird 8-directional grid that your character is locked to. The adage that DS2 is a good game, but a bad Dark Souls game is, I think, exceedingly generous. If DS2 had to stand on its own without borrowing the Dark Souls title, it would be largely forgotten.

YIPPIE
Dark Souls II is a true black sheep, and rightfully so. It is marked by many flaws, but this otherness is also what makes it so beautiful. It refuses to be boxed in by its predecessor title. For better and worse it pushes past what players may have become used to after the first game. Some of this is maybe pushed in the wrong direction. The lessons it carries forward and beyond the original are at times ridiculous. I feel however, that this ridiculousness works ultimately in its favor. It is another link in the cycle of fire, but somewhere else. It is somewhere far away from Lordran. You wander through a landscape shrouded in some sort of cerebral haze. The logic is skewed here. You do not have the ingenious map design from Lordran. Instead, you stumble through fragmented dreamscapes that are linked together. A sense of fairy tale seeps from the roots of the land. The way is clouded by metaphorical (and sometimes literal) fog. Things do not fit right in Drangleic. "Time flows differently." You can feel the deterioration of the world's cycle of fire eating away at the edges. Part of this is thanks to the games shaky production journey, but an equally large part feels intentional. The setting is a puzzle to be solved. Even more so than its Fromsoft sibling titles. There is much exploration that needs doing, and such exploration is rewarded. You will find strange characters, secret passageways, and ancient catacombs that spawl in ways that are different than other Souls' catacombs. You must bring torches, life gems, and properly delve to find your way. And you will die, of course. You will die in ways that are comically unfair and utterly cartoonish . And if you learn the right lessons it has to teach, these deaths will make you laugh. It is supposed to be funny. It is supposed to be fun! I had a lot of fun with this game, maybe you will too :) . Or maybe you wont! At the end of the day you will be crushed by a giant boulder regardless.

so off the bat i want to say that i am not apart of no circlejerk that ♥♥♥♥♥ on dark souls 2 in any way. I very much enjoyed the story a lot, i think its interesting, the characters lores are really something (even though majority of them are forgettable) and Ive really loved the scenery and areas that are in dark souls 2. I will never forget the moment I entered Drangleic Castle and just seen the sheer beauty of it, its one of the top moments Ive had in this game and in any game. However. This game has been complete and utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in terms of GAMEPLAY. I recently discovered, it took 2 people to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ direct this game. One was an utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, who did not know what he was doing. Most uncreative ♥♥♥♥, was wiping his ass with the game, and ultimately got replaced by ANOTHER ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It was completely scrapped in the middle of its development and ended up being one of the biggest asswipes in terms of gameplay. This game punishes you severely if you ♥♥♥♥ up, has 8 DIRECTIONS to swing, and penalizes you for trying to use something to the best of your ability, like weapon range. Im currently trying to 100% this game, and so far I only got 8 left thankfully. God forbid anyone else tries to 100% it, because itll genuinely drain the life out of you.
