Dark Messiah of Might & Magic

I can't believe I hadn't reviewed this game before. It's one of the greats of the source library and I hope we get another just as good someday, maybe for Source 2. It encourages so much creativity and experimentation, has a badass storyline and honestly is just a very polished experience. After going through the main story, I had fun using mods to enjoy cut content and test the game's limits. I wiped out every mortal soul in Stonehelm before moving on, pinned an immortal Arantir under a portcullis and humiliated Aratrok Shadow of Mordor style. I didn't even need to kill him. Name a modern game that gives you that much freedom. I'll be waiting.

Давным-давно, инди-студия разработчиков под неказистым названием "Юбисофт", как команда, которая ещё могла под своим крылом взрастить неокрепшие умы юных энтузиастов, подавала большие надежды. И хоть искусство её покорения гейм-индустрии было велико, ей предстояло ещё многому научиться. И благодаря этой игре в 2007 годы я (БЫ) поверил, что "Arkane Studios" спасут мир. Геймплей: как если бы на трёхколёсном велосипеде прокатились Дизонорд, Квэйк и Скайрим, родя общего ребёнка (в стране с разрешённым многожёнством, кто "папочка" в этой истории - решайте сами), а в ясельной группе лучшим другом этого чада был Дарк Соулс (второй, первый бы от дома до садика недобегал, потому что, бл?ть, не по-мужЫцки это - костры ближе к боссфайту ставить, не трайхардовски). Графон: пiзд@тый. У кого нарекания есть - идите, не знаю, в Breakpoint поиграйте, да г0вна поешьте. Сюжет: что-то от SpecOps: The Line. (ха-ха, наипал, но вайб прикольный) Рекомендую: не всем. Зайдёт всем. Никаких противоречий, одна софистика.

For a nearly twenty-year old game - a short one, my twelve hours is probably standard for a playthrough- Dark Messiah is the right mix of mechanics and complex sections for an RPG. The kicking mechanic alone is fun -forget FUS-RO-DAH! And you can set your arrows, and objects, and bodies, on fire -if you don't want to just ragdoll your enemies. There's plenty of climbing, and swimming, and hidden places to find. But getting to those secrets can be fatal, you'll take many a wrong step off a high perch and miss that rope or chain. There's not a lot of lore, though, and a relatively small selection of weapons and armour, dependent on you chosen skills. The game is very linear, with only three or four choices towards the end. Enemies are hit sponges and you're fairly soft: straight up whacking at monsters can be tough, use the environment. YES, the game needs a few tweaks to get it working on modern systems. YES, it is well known for crashing. BUT...Dark Messiah has kicking. It has personality. You can use your imagination. If you want to clear your gaming palate between playthroughs of Skyrim and Assassin's Creed, this is one you might want to try.
