Feeling the dread, the longing for the truth. This game is a amazing experience that is surely worth your time.
My friend bought this for me roughly a year ago, and I told them I'd play it on my birthday, and that day is today and wooof this game is good! This game's world building and atmosphere are amazing! It really feels like you're in a living, breathing world. A world that's barely holding on anymore. You see a world filled with ruins and hints at who may have lived here a long time ago. I won't say anymore, lest I spoil something, go play the game yourself. However, I do have a note about the difficulty. Even on the regular difficulty, I found the game quite easy. In fact, I didn't die once. The game absolutely showers you with ammo and medkits. The game has a system for breaking limbs, kind of like the Fallout games, but I never once broke a limb. It's possible that it's just uncommon enough on the regular difficulty. But that's not a serious issue or anything. It just means I'll just have to play the game on hard next time!~ I really enjoyed my time with Metal Garden. I will probably play it again to clean up the achievements!~
___________________________________________ Sometimes you don't need dozens of hours of gameplay, a massive open world, or hundreds of side quests to make a game memorable. This one only needed a couple of hours. The strongest part of the game for me is easily its world. Massive concrete structures, abandoned ruins, nature slowly taking over everything around you, and this constant feeling that you're inside something so enormous you can't even fully understand its scale. At some point I stopped rushing forward and just started looking around, exploring, and wondering where else I could go. The shooting is fairly simple, but it feels good, movement is smooth, and the combat never overstays its welcome or gets in the way of the main attraction: exploring this strange world. I also really liked that the story isn't constantly explained to you. A lot of it is left for you to piece together from the environment, the information you find, and whatever the hell is happening around you. My only real complaint is that the game ends right when you start wanting more. But I guess that's also a good sign. I'd rather have two or three memorable hours than twenty hours of content stretched out just for the sake of making the game longer. A small, weird, and incredibly atmospheric indie game that I started with basically no expectations and ended up being one of those little discoveries that remind me why I love indie games in the first place. I'd absolutely love to see a sequel, or at least another game set in this world. There's so much more that could be done with it.
Super awesome, I can never have enough of "Mega Structure" games like these, and this one has some extra story and combat on top of exploration too which is a nice touch. Soundtrack compliments exploration quite well, and the environments are all unique every chapter which is cool too. I hope to see a continuation of this some day, was a bit sad at where it ended since it really was getting exciting at that point, but I fully understand how hard it can be to make such a massive thing with a small team/solo development Either way super awesome and highly recommended to anyone who enjoys exploration and cool structures/environments.
i'm not even sure if this needed to have guns in it, just wandering around and taking in the atmosphere was incredible.
Hmm, didn't riff well with me. Left me feeling bored throughout the whole thing, and felt more like gamejam quality. It was just missing something, a lot of something. I don't mind simplistic gunplay if it feels satisfying but the AI was pretty basic. Exploration should feel rewarding, and when you're only really getting extra ammo for it even if you go off the beaten path into the extra routes. Logs are better when they're juicy, not feeling like filler. I dunno, just really did nothing for me. I suppose it's nice to see some megastructure stuff but it amounted to nothing and ended in a place where it could have actually become interesting. Potentially.
