About
The Culdcept series has captivated players worldwide. Now, the original masterpiece returns, enhanced with convenient new features.
Build your deck from over 300 types of cards and witness the dawn of a new battle among Cepter.
On the continent of Bablashca, where the chief god Culdra once clashed with the neutral god Baltias, humanity—Culdra’s final creation—had long flourished.
However, the world fell into chaos when stone tablets discovered across the land were revealed to be fragments of "Culdcept"—the Book of Creation and Destruction.
Driven by the mythical prophecy that "he who commands the Culdcept shall gain infinite power," Cepter began to fight one another over the scattered fragments.
As the ravages of war spread, a lone youth finally rises and sets out on a long, epic journey.
Players become "Cepter" who wield cards, heading into battle with a self-constructed 50-card "Book" (deck).
Move across the map guided by the roll of the dice and summon creatures using cards on the spaces where you land. Any land where you place a creature becomes your territory.
By using Spell Cards, you can manipulate dice rolls, support your creatures, or sabotage your rivals.
The first Cepter to collect the target amount of Magic Power and return to the Castle (the starting point) is declared the winner.
After a match, you will receive a random set of cards based on your ranking. Incorporate these new cards into your Book and refine your tactics for the next battle.
When you land on another player's territory, you must pay Magic Power as a toll. However, by summoning a creature and winning a battle, you can claim that territory as your own.
In battle, the key to victory lies not only in a creature's stats and special abilities but also in Item Card effects and support bonuses from the land or allies.
Seize territories and increase your Magic Power to gain the upper hand in the game.
【Rewind】Rewind the game to any point someone passed a Checkpoint at a Fort or the Castle.
【Quick Save & Load】Enables you to save and load at any time, independent of the main game's standard save function.
【Bonus Pack】Increases the number of reward cards received at the end of a match. This can be toggled ON/OFF in the options menu.
【Reveal Hands】This feature allows you to constantly display both your own and your opponent's hand on-screen—information that was only visible at specific times in the original version. It can be toggled ON/OFF, and the display size adjusts automatically according to the game's screen layout.
【Language Switching】You can play the game in either Japanese or English.
Note: Save data is not shared between languages. Separate save files will be created for Japanese and English.

Looked forward to this port but had to ask for refund - it was unplayable. I tried both on PC and Steam Deck and both froze/black-screened after the first story combat. I couldn't get any further across several attempts. So sad.
Can't wait for the rest of the Culdcept games to show up on steam.
Never heard of this game but it looked neat so I took a chance on it, and I'm loving it so far.

I have loved his game for two decades and have finished it multiple times on PS2. I was excited to own it or my Steam Deck and bought it hoping that one reviewer's advice to run it under "Proton Experimental" compatibility would work, but it still blacks out after a round is complete. This means I never get to save and I'm trapped in the first chapter. If anyone has advice on how to make it run better on the deck, please post your fix!🥰
Low effort port, but a cepter gotta cept. Hopefully they clean up the MTL translation and add remote play.

It's a good thing I love Culdcept, because $30 for a 30 year-old game running in an easily downloadable emulator is WILD. No updated graphics, no new stories/areas, just the same exact game from 30 years ago with an overlay of minor QOL stuff. But here I am, supporting the devs. I'll expect a Christmas bonus. Game is great! I fell in love with this series back on the x360 and have been a fan ever since. This Low-effort PC port not withstanding, I'm hoping we get more Culdcept games on PC!
First time Culdcept player here. I love this game so far, and appreciate that it was re-released. The aesthetic is amazing. The animations and vibe make it reminiscent of games like Yu-GI-Oh!! Forbidden Memories, while taking Itadaki Street and Magic the Gathering and forcing them to figure out what it means to be in a committed relationship. I'm still pretty early on in the game, but it's very easy to pick up and get playing to learn as you go, which is probably my number one requirement for a board game. This is a port though, and it's a little rough around the edges. Here are the positives of the port: - The overlay allows you to get bonus card packs - rounds can take 40mins, so grinding out cards seems like a hassle. - You can adjust game volume from the overlay, which is useful in niche scenarios - You can change the language from English to Japanese from the overlay for the 日本語の学者 in the room (Please see the negatives). - The CRT filter looks really, really nice. Here are some of the issues I've had: - Steam Deck compatibility is rough, it's recommended you change the proton compatibility to Proton Experimental, but I use GE-Proton10-32. If you don't, you'll probably boot into a black screen. Unsure if any other settings work better. - The game looks to be emulated, with its own overlay menu where you can change various settings. Messing around in this menu too fast can make it soft-lock - Changing menus in game seems soft-lock the game sometimes (I did this while reading the manual). - You have to use a controller if in desktop mode, mouse and keyboard doesn't seem to be a thing for this. - There is no speed up option, aside from the in-game text speed. This is a serious shame for an emulated title. - For Japanese learners - changing from Japanese to English doesn't allow you to use your saves. I'm guessing this means that it's two separate roms Personal complaints: I wish there were more achievements for a title like this, as well as steam trading cards/badges. You get achievements for completing every story chapter boss, as well as collecting 300 cards. I would be happy if there were achievements encouraging play in the free battle mode, or just encouraging more play overall. The pricing was higher than I expected it would be. I was expecting $25 - $30 NZD maximum, instead it's priced at $43.59. This seems to be the norm for niche Japanese games and I understand the broader economic issues, but this seems like the kind of game randoms browsing Steam would give a shot to if it was in the $10 - $20 range. Overall, I wish there was a rating in between positive and negative. The soft-locking issues need to be resolved. I am giving it a positive though, because I am enjoying my experience with this. It's fun, it has style, and really scratches that itch for me. If the price is an issue, wait for a sale, but I think it's worth it for encouraging more releases. Really hope the second game makes its way to steam eventually, with as many achievements as it does on Retro Achievements ;)
