Contagion isn't your average Zombie Shooter but instead takes a more realistic and different approach to the popular genre with unique characters, environments, weapons, items, and a built in system that makes every round completely unpredictable with resources, objectives, and paths ever changing.

What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess of a game. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hitboxes, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ performance, glitches and random crashes, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pathfinding of zombies (they get stuck on ♥♥♥♥♥♥ map geometry, seriously?), and a dragging gameplay loop of finding a small objective item on a ridiculously big map, over and over again. It is even more amazing seeing so little content available when it comes to levels and the sole named campaigns, considering that this game has been on Steam for over a decade. Considering the bugs and all, it feels like it never truly came out of that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and crash-landed period of Early Access many years ago. The game is also quite weird when it comes to its core gameplay. Most is based around the idea of making the most out of the ammo and weapons you will find. But some levels are hordes upon hordes, and you get no ammo, while others you will be overstocked on ammo but will have nothing to shoot. It really feels like it has an identity crisis that was never resolved. Also, to get the most out of the game, you really want some people to play along. But the game is dead. During lucky moments and peak hours, you could find a veteran or two that will lead you through the level, but most of the time you will see a list of servers with 0 people. Wouldn't recommend even during a sale or even if you have money and friends to spare. Better buy Left 4 Dead 2, or if you want similar gameplay, try the free game No More Room in Hell. NMRIH is also far more polished and alive, despite being a free mod even older than this mess. Unrelated to the review, seeing this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game really makes sense of how the developers ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the classic predecessor mod, Zombie Panic Source. RIP ZPS, you were the GOAT before that mess of the 3.0 version, caused by the morons who worked on this ♥♥♥♥.

I haven't played this in years...now I remember why. It's the "Baby's First Zombie Game" of zombie survival. Simply put, it sucks by 2025 standards.
Игра для 2013 года очень даже хороша! Есть маленькие нюансы,а так вполне играбельно Советую
second best zombie game after nmrih, too bad i came to low 4-9players max.....
feels like a more refined NMRiH experience in my personal opinion

This is actually a wonderful game that gives me some 90's throwbacks in some of the best ways and some meh' ways too. If you're someone whose annoyed by all the zombie titles utilizing special infected and avoiding the classic shamble zombie than this will be a perfect asset to you. Because these are the OG zombies' the only thing that'll put them down is a head shot or to completely destroy them with explosives. When describing this game to my friends who I have encouraged to buy it; the only thing I can think of is a combination between Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil because it has the qualities of a old school shooter and has the coop encouragement trademark of Left 4 Dead where you can play as survivors to complete objectives or play as the infected to murder your friends. When it comes to how the game plays it's awesome for me because of it's "Old School" vibes! What I am referring too is the fact that it has us scouring the map for weapons, ammo, gear etc to both improve our arsenal and survival odds but also having a limited inventory space which can be consumed by the quest item means we have to manage what weapons we want to bring with us especially if going at things alone. However the old school vibes don't stop just at the way we can explore, loot and gear up across these large environments! I like the fact the game doesn't necessarily hold our hands when it comes to directing us within the environment of each mission/level. You spawn in with a handgun, limited ammo and get a notification on your cellphone which gives you the basis of our objective however you have to navigate the environment to figure out how to progress through to each point to reach the end of the level or to progress to the next stage of the mission. Your phone will update as you complete various tasks giving you some concept and idea you're moving in the right direction objective wise; but the rest is up to you! No giant objective markers, no hand-holding arrows telling us which way to go, no overwhelming amount of invisible barriers pushing us towards our goal just classic investigate the environment and figure things out with good ole intuition. Now despite loving the game for the most part I do have a few complaints most of them are minor but still something that bothers me enough to make note of it with everyone here with high hopes one of the devs will acknowledge this and perhaps give it a update. 1. Zombies climb/Jump Vault Height: Zombies can climb over obstacles nothing is wrong with this when it comes to simple things like climbing over a chain-link fence or climbing over boxes, a desk, counter-top or even onto the hood of a car. However when you see zombies hopping over concrete walls and scaling over hedge maze walls it definitely breaks the atmosphere quite a bit!! Zombies shouldn't be able to climb over those obstacles it doesn't make any sense. 2. Metal/Wooden Doors Same Health: I feel like there should be a distinct difference in durability between the doors when one is wood and other metal. When you shut a door though it appears a single zombie can break it down regardless and it takes roughly the same amount of time as if it were a wooden door and this feels odd if not lazy because you often want to create hold out points or security when progressing through the environments in case of a horde or random zombie encounter but if they can break down the obstacles with ease it kinda defeats the purpose <-- Yes you can reinforce doors and windows with wood and nail gun but only if you find both of them in the level and they're not always present and this doesn't eliminate the zombies from getting in. This merely slows them down further, I think it should eliminate the option all together unless they break the barrier down from the side it's nailed from. 3. Ending Objectives: Whilst I love the game not providing us with a whole hand holding sense of direction like modern gaming. It's definitely annoying how many objectives you can lose because you have to do something at the end of wherever you're currently at and the game provides no insight from your phone or update as to what that is you need to be doing to move things along meanwhile a timer or a infinite horde will be pouring down on you until you figure it out or die. 4. No checkpoints: Some of the missions in this game are incredibly long, some of them require you to dedicate some time into them and not knowing which missions are gonna take hours to finish especially as a first time play through can be a problem not just because we may not have hours to play but if you die because anything can occur within the mission that ends up with you getting killed.., then you have to redo the whole mission. <-- This is incredibly exhausting and problematic! There needs to be a checkpoint for every objective completed! Verdict: It's a wonderful game I highly recommend; it runs great, looks great and again classic shamble zombies vs the annoying sprinting variant but hey if that's what you want don't fret there's a setting for that if you want them but it's core focus is the shamble approach. It's fun to play with friends but I have had a great time alone too! Good for newcomers and those who're looking for a good zombie horror.
