Cold Waters

The game is difficult at first but very engaging. The tutorial is pretty intimidating - there are quite a few keybindings to learn and the game talks about how acoustics work depending on thermal layers in the waters etc. But I'd say that it's really worth learning it because the game itself feels very satisfying. The moment when you manage to barely evade a torpedo, or sink an enemy capital ship undetected (while the enemy attacks a position where they THINK you are) feels very rewarding. The UI-based controls (setting your course on the map, choosing to go to a particular depth instead of manually controlling the planes/ballast) allow you to focus on what I think this game is really about - tactics and deception. Firing all your missiles at a target and immediately diving at full-speed and changing course, firing torpedoes "to the side" before positioning them towards your opponent so that they think you're in a different place than you really are. Starting to utilize the thermal layers as a "shield" against sonar. The first few times you encounter a full enemy fleet you'll likely die miserably a couple times. I have to say - I save-scummed quite a few times to practice. But then you realise that a completely different approach is possible and it all works out - that's very satisfying. You'll likely have to read up a guide or two to learn how to play the game well but after that it's great.

Solid play once you get the gist of how to manage the sub. After that it's plug and play in less than 3 minutes.
