Reviews
Beautiful, but ONLY beautiful. No tactical depth, no technical depth, and worst of all in a submarine "simulation", no immersive depth.

Chill and Kill
sub
good graphics and fun gameplay
Two important things you need to do if you are hella autistic and get into this game, you need to read Tom Clancy SSN Strategies of Submarine Warfare and then download the Dotmod. Thank me later. This game is a great gateway drug into the world of submarine ops and naval warfare as a whole.
Great!
Out of all the Sub Sims this game was the one purchase I had to tell myself just buy it so you have it over and over again in my head because my opinion of the game from what I saw on YouTube was just a fast paced naval sim that is actually a torpedo simulator. IT IS NOT! With the DotMod and now the Epic mod... I'm aware of the issues between these modding groups and the disingenuous thief but both teams have made this game into something truly brilliant. After my first experience with the Vanilla, I knew I needed the mods for the surface gameplay and I went with DotMod and it delivered but the game still lacked that open world sandbox experience I get from War on the sea, Aircraft Carrier Survival, Uboat etc etc. I found the campaigns extremely rushed, I was crossing the map in a matter of hours and going from engagement to engagement but then I saw Epic Mods Global Campaigns and it's everything I wanted. I leave port to my objective, may take days to get there, I was getting intercepted or I was Intercepting them or totally avoiding them. 8 days had passed in game, I hadn't sunk an entire navy like you see on YouTube and the encounters I did have were nothing like the rollercoaster action you see on there but it can get like that... And here's why. I play on Elite and so vanilla you get dropped in the action but in settings you can increase the map size and distances from subs and surface fleets and it then delivered a much slower paced gameplay. I found myself making contact and losing contact, I found myself as a sub thinking I don't think anyone is here anymore, to then speed up and suddenly after 10-15mins using time compression seeing 2 torpedo launches coming my way. The distances are vast so you have to detect then get into range which can take a long and I mean a long time. I have the distances vast and against subs, you really will be in the scenario for hours... Which leads to the games only flaw for me. You can't save during combat, only during the Strategic map and it's such a let down to know you have to complete an awesome game where you have remained undetected and slowly gotten into position that has taken hours to get into for it to be all for nothing if you don't finish it, so you find yourself rushing which leads to a misstep and you blow it. Obviously that kind of gameplay isn't for everyone but many of us just love the cruise, heading towards an engagement and then running if we have to. I'm on a Legion Go, so I'm playing this chilling on the sofa or in bed, so long gameplay like this isn't the same as sitting at a computer desk, the time really does fly by. Now I've only got 9hrs and I think 7hrs of that has been on Epic, trying Subs, Destroyers and Aircraft carriers... The vast distances, the 1:1 scale makes the game feel open world and strategy is needed. I love being Destroyers especially doing ASW, I got ambushed by the Aussies in the Java Sea and man if there was a save function, I'd still be hunting those subs but I had to leave combat after needing to go to work, the managed to get 2 missiles through my defenses and they were so far away, it took forever for my ASW helicopters to reach the area only for them to pop up miles away and fire off more. lol I also read the Epic mod is heavily favoured for Russia, I've played as a US frigate against a Russian Convoy... I took out 3 escorts, a merchant before they finally got me due to me neglecting ASW and a sub getting into range to launch torpedos then cannon fire hitting their targets, rockets finally getting through my defenses and a torpedo finishing me off. I was giving them a right good hiding on Elite before I allowed myself to be overwhelmed. Same playing as Russians, NATO and the US will f*ck you up if you position yourself where they just wipe the floor with you. Overall I'm addicted to this game due to the mods and I'm sure if a save function could be added it would have already. It's far from a torpedo sim, it's excellent, easy to play but extremely challenging to master, you can adjust settings so you aren't sinking the entire Russian or NATO fleet in a single patrol. Fully recommend and so glad I bought it.
