Reviews
Code Vein is a very good game. The gameplay is fun, though it can be frustrating at times, but that is to be expected with Souls-like games. The character designs are good and interesting, although some of the female designs are a bit questionable. Even though there are a few bugs here and there, it is still a fun experience. All in all, it one of my favorites.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
I don't normally play these games but my son got it for me. He helps me in multiplayer mode which is so easy to do compared to other games. This game is not easy but it isn't to hard that it fells impossible to beat. It is addictive as I want to get 100 percent and level up with nice gear. The storyline is really nice and keeps you wanting to know more. I would 100 percent recommend this game even to beginners like me who have played Stardew to many times. LOL!!
Let me save you 5€ and ~27 hours of gameplay. Generally speaking this game is much easier than Dark Souls but still gave me a fair amount of frustration. Lets start with the positives, shall we? -The story is clearly communicated, quests are too, no cryptic descriptions you try to figure out, in short: its easy to understand. -Level up system is very simple. Instead of leveling up different stats, to meet a certain ability or weapon requirement, you only level up your character, and the chosen Blood Veil (just a fancy word for your dress with some abilities) going to adjust your stats. -Upgrading your weapon is easy to understand and easy to do, just use materials to level up, other materials to add elemental modification (fire, ice, stun whatever you'll never need to use them). -The character creation is really detailed. You can even choose the character's voice, however they only gonna say 1 line at the end and some grunting when getting hit, so its kinda pointless. -If you hate Miyazaki's obsession with poisonous swamps, I've got good news for you. The swamp area only drains your “mana” not your health, so there's no constants struggle for survival Aaand the not so positives. While this is personal preference, I disliked that it was waaaay too easy with AI companions (you don’t need to use them, but they have their perks). This became clear right away, when my partner basically one shot most basic enemies. Oh and don’t worry if you die. They can revive you. At the beginning of the game I equipped a blood code (different blood codes have different abilities) and did not switch to another one in the entire game. Just upgrade your weapon and character and go ham. So why did I play with companions? Simple: invasions. Other players will not invade, but AI enemies will. In Dark Souls 1 and 3 the NPCs invaded, and all of them differed from basic mobs. They had different armor, different weaponry, and so on. Yeah forget that, they just constantly spawning regular and somewhat stronger enemies to gank you (limiting to 3 alive at a time). While you can just run through and ignore them, one early game invasion is extremely frustrating. That frustration is getting more apparent when we have to discuss the level design and the enemy placements, as they are the worst I’ve seen in any game I’ve played. They put a grunt in every blindspot. Every. Blindspot. You know in DS they do it once as a warning “hey be careful here”. Holy phack they overdid it. The level design is somewhat uninspired and switches between a very simple Y crossing where one way will be a dead end and the other the right way and a complete utter chaotic labyrinth where everything looks the same and you have no idea where you came or where you’re supposed to go. This is elevated to the point where they give voice lines to the companions where they complain THAT EVERYTHING LOOKS THE SAME AND THEY ARE LOST. Dear developers let me tell ya. Just because you acknowledge the terrible map design, that does not makes the game better. Also you constantly have to look over the edges of the cliffs because you'll need to drop to lower levels to progress the map. I don’t know whether they lacked the time, the money or the talent to make a proper map, but this was even more obvious how they connected the areas. In DS its a huge interconnected map, you can go from A to B to H to E to Z back to H in one go, and most areas will serve a part of the game. In Code Vein you go from one area to another via some random tight tunnel with nothing to do in it other than going through. The devs felt that his is utter trash so you will only do this to get to a new area and use the bonefires to teleport. Speaking of bonefires and teleporting to unlock new abilities after you find the corresponding items you have to go back to the main area and speak to a specific person instead of doing it on your own at any bonefire. To make even worse these abilities can be unlocked by viewing someone's memories, and a short story is told by statues of the participants and you'll walk through a short map. Not gonna lie, some of the transitions in these memories are really well made. But most of them feel rushed, uninspired and you're forced to sloooooooooooowwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalk the entire thing. You can skip watching the memory, but then you'll miss out on the backstory of the other characters. Also there were situations like this: found a new memory. Teleported to the base. Loading screen. Walk (not run) to the character to watch the memory. Loading screen. Forced to walk 20 seconds. The character in the memory literally says 1 sentence. Loading. Forced to walk another 20 seconds, because the get out gate spawned halfway across the planet instead of next to you. Loading screen. Mandatory cutscene with the character learning about their memory. Loading. Out of the 27 hours a significant amount is this painfully timewasting way of telling the story. I'm not even gonna touch how uninspiring and boring the dungeons are. Main and side quests. The main story is fine, nothing spectacular, but has its moments, with multiple different ending (I'm not gonna play through the game to see the other endings. One playthrough was more than enough.) However the side quests. The game treats you like you're mentally handicapped. After a boss fight you meet someone outside the arena. They need some random item, when the dialogue closes, on the map the other NPC in who's in the arena starts to flicker, telling you where to go. Walk 10 meters, talk to the other person. they give you the item, walk back to the one that gave the quest and talk with them. Quest completed. No dialogue trees, no options for different outcomes. Literally walk 10 meters, press interact on an NPC and walk back. That's it. The other kind of sidequest is just as simple. Go to this place, kill one specific basic grunt, go back to report. You don't even need to search for them, as they are pinned on the map. Don't get me wrong, I do not expect Witcher 3 like side quests, but this is just wasting fillers to expand the runtime for bare minutes. At the end of the day, go with Surge 1. If you want parrying also be viable go with Surge 2. They have their own problems on their own, but IMO they are far superior to this game.
As someone who has beaten the game twice with two different endings and bought the dlc, I just wanna say that Code Vein is more like Code Depression. Just wanted to say that I love the art style and the characters, especially Io. The customization is so diverse and the story is just full of suffering. But the main issue is the combat. Sometimes when I try to attack using M1, it doesn't even react. And when you press parry, the animation takes so long, you literally have to wait for the parry animation to finish before you can dodge. Somehow, during an attack, it suddenly swings in a completely different direction even though I've already locked onto the enemy. The cutscenes are pretty predictable, but honestly they really need to rethink the DLC because it's pretty underwhelming, and they definitely need to fix that combat. If you guys want to buy this game, you should wait for a 75% sale or above. It's totally worth it at that price point, and it's actually a great price to pick the game up. I still recommend this game anyway.
