So I was at Gamescom yesterday (August the 23rd 2017) and found this little neat thing at the indie arena. Someone left a test station and I just took over where that guy left. I had no idea about the story or on what to do. For a text-based adventure it was super intuitive to figure out what the controls are and how certain things work. So let's mark that as a pro, shall we? At some point I basically had "too much" in a positive way. The game captured my full interest and I was super excited about the little bit of story I played so far and I didn't wanted to ruin the fun of exploring more. Within like 10 minutes of test playing at a games fair I got hooked. Note: At this point I didn't even know I was playing the demo (aka Episode 0). I ended up buying my steam key directly from the Devs - at least I assume it's been the Devs showcasing their product. Today I played through Episode 1 and boy, what a lucky find I made at Gamescom! I'm not gonna give any hints or spoilers regarding the story but I myself find it awesome and I can't wait for more to come. So, let's do this list thingy showing you Pro and Con: Pro

Very intuitive controls
Ingame tutorial explaining things to you while you play (it doesn't feel forced onto you)
Characters speak to you - so your input isn't text only
Neat puzzles that make you think
Amazing story with twists and some surprises
Con

One timed puzzle that might be a bit too harsh on you
You have to wait for the other episodes to be released (Ok, maybe this is just a minor con)
Í may be just a random guy on the internet and my opinion might not matter to you. But if you're into adventure games and you don't fear playing a game only with your keyboard than I suggest you buy this title right away and enjoy a very good adventure game and support some - I'd say - upcoming developers.

Would have been great if they finished it, but it looks like they took the money from the season pass and ran. Decent game turned into a disappointing scam with no ending. This is one to avoid.
Code 7 proves that you don't need high tech graphics and 3D for a great game... just a white-knuckle story, solid acting, original music, and the most unique interface/concept I've seen in years. This is way more than a text adventure. For anyone who has a technical bone in their body, this is a game that you should not miss! Read my full review at JustAdventure . I gave the game an 'A'!
Text adventures have never looked better! Code 7 is a sci-fi hacking based game with a very mysterious atmosphere. You play as a hacker in a desolated space station trying to solve the mystery surrounding you. The story is so captivating that you will lose track of time, trying to always find more about the places and characters you meet as hours go by. The mechanics are cleverly integrated into the story, so the connection with your character is real. Writing commands in your keyboard is the same as hacking a futuristic console in space. The voice acting is marvelous, the music is awesome, and everything is wrapped up in a very elegant cinematic experience. You can also try episode 0 for free! so go ahead an play this now!
Don't get me wrong, the game is fun to play, the whole reason why I don't recommend this game is because it has been abandoned, there has been no updates whatsover if the project is still alive
My entire progress got reset. Now I have to make backups of my saves. I need to find out where the saves are located. I have to replay a text adventure... takes a while. I feel like an idiot because I bought it before Episode 4 got released because I wanted to support this kind of game. I am not happy. This Review is not objective. I am only writing this because I'm annoyed... Bye. Edit: Guess what, it happend again... I have backups now but it still sucks... Edit 2: 3rd reset, seems like you can only safely play the episodes if you play them in one go. Edit 3: Oh and if you can't type blindly you most likely won't enjoy this game, especially because sometimes you have to type pretty fast or otherwise fail. And the timecritical hackingchallenges are very unlikely to beat the first time. Edit 4: One of the develeopers rolled the game to a previous version, so Autosave is atleast useable again (I couldn't get a single Autosave to work in Episode 2),however I don't know if it's entirely fixed, so no guarentees. Edit 5: I had a reset again, after everything was "supposedly" fixed and I just finished the game, (because Ep4 isn't out yet) which shows I guess that beneath this broken savesystem, is an actually quite interesting game. But if you have a savesystem that only has 1 file that randomly f u c k i n g explodes then it is quite hard to stay positive about it.
Stupid game. I admire the artistic flare with regards to a bond-esque start to "threading" episode. However for me the part i found unpalatable was when reading an email about standing up for gender and robot rights by a "humble fan". You can tell this game was made in 2017 by their participation in the stupid snowflake zeitgeist of the time. Zoya the Boya, etc... need I go on? The games neither great nor bad. It's okay. It sure as hell is not worth what they are currently asking for it.
Met the guys at gamescom. They were really nice. I even got a poster by solving one of the challenges at the booth. But now the game: I actually did not play at the booth. I just talked to the devs and found their ideas really cool and I like how passionate they are about the development of Code 7. I went home and bought it right away. Played Episode 0 in less than an hour. And I was hooked into the story from the get-go. The Pros: - really intuitive UI and game design - good voice acting - good mix of old text adventure games and modern game design - good and interesting story Cons (so far): - some minor bugs which I will report to the trello board. All in all I recommend getting this one if you are interested in a text based adventure/hacking game. 17 bucks (as of 08/28/17) devided into 5 episodes is around 3.50€ for each episode. Give these guys a chance. They deserve it.
I'm hooked. What an excellent game! I'm surprised I haven't come across it before. Can't believe Steam hadn't suggested it to me. Picked this up quite by accident last night whilst searching for a different game... Played Episode 0 and just had to get back on to it today. Given Episode 0 only took about 1.5 hours playing fairly cautiously, I really didn't expect it to take me another 3.5 hours to get through Episode 1... Alright, I do like to fully explore in a game like this, but I think most people do if they enjoy this kind of title. So I'm very much looking forward to the next couple of episodes and it looks like the fifth instalment (episode 4) is well into development. Something tells me I won't want to wait once I get to that point. Excellent value for money so far! I don't normally bother with reviews, but given how surprisingly good this hidden gem is, I thought it deserved the time and I thoroughly recommend it. For those who like a little more detail (without any spoilers), here you go: Graphics: - It's a text adventure, but it runs smoothly and quickly... no graphical glitches. The animations are appropriate to the story and setting. Everything looks "right". 9/10 Music: - Fantastic... just fantastic! Does exactly what great game music should do. 10/10 Voice acting: - I can't imagine how difficult it must be to bring characters to life without the aide of visual communication, but this is about as good as I've come across. Some very occasional and very minor cutting issues - presumably where lines are recorded at different times then put together... no overlaps or anything, more emotional oddities such as a character seeming calm in one sentence then emotionally charged in the next even though ti's a continuous speech and nothing has changed. I'm being very picky though! 9/10 Story: - So far, completely captivating. I may revisit this once I've completed the game, but unless something goes seriously wrong, this is shaping up to be a fantastic story arch. For every moment I find myself thinking "I saw that one coming" there's a least one far bigger "how the hell did I miss that?" or "wow, did that just happen?"... very impressive and engaging. Even a touch emotional at times. 10/10 Game-play: - Essentially a text-based adventure, well constructed with plenty of puzzles that are enough to get me thinking without tearing my hair out. Haven't come across any annoying dead-ends as of yet and everything flows nicely, seemingly regardless of the route you try and take, the game gets you to the right path comfortably and without anything feeling forced. Keyboard only controls with a nice "hacking" element to it. If you are a fan of text adventures or any hacking type games, this is for you. Also, the occasional time-based challenge appears which generally will require you to use the skills that you have developed to be applied quickly and accurately. These challenges are tough, but failure only sets you back to the start of the challenge, so it's not painful. 8/10 Replay-ability: - Looks to me that there are some achievements which are dependant on taking different paths in the game, so there will be a reason to replay, but I'm not sure this is really the kind of game that would be particularly rewarding if replayed... not that I imagine it was designed to be. Overall: - Engaging, entertaining, attractive, challenging and that soundtrack! 9/10... And that could easily move up a notch by the time I'm done with it!
