Absolute hidden gem. As others have mentioned, the vibe is reminiscent of Ueda Fumito's games. It is also a very interesting take on the tower defense genre, which to be honest is not even my cup of tea, but I had quite some fun with this one. Definitely recommend that you try to find all the towers to unlock all the side quests. The side characters you will meet are very quirky and add much needed lore to the story. Exploration is also fun and character movement is very responsive, in fact too much at times. My only complaints are the lack of soundtrack variety (although the few tracks it has fit well with the atmosphere) and that the towers don't feel very unique. Most of them boil down to 1. Find strategic spot, 2. Pummel your enemies from there. But these are minor issues considering the game does not overstay its welcome. I wholeheartedly recommend it and hope that more people get to know about this unique game.
What a strange and wonderful game. Not like any game I played before, in all the best ways

This game is the true definition of a hidden gem. The world building and the combat are just so engaging. I'll def be playing update 2.
Amazing one-of-a-kind genre-defying game, very unusual combat system and an open world that's big enough to where it feels like one, but not too big where it's a chore to traverse. A real hidden gem. It's not perfectly polished, but the best word that can be used to describe every aspect of this game is "intriguing".
a fantastic, obscure little gem, burggeist is a weird mix of platforming, tower defense, exploration, and jrpg, with an incredibly cozy feel. the menu design is incredible and inspiring; any difficulty with navigating it is worth the artistic style, dont let them tell you otherwise. the vast majority of the credits are VAs and musicians; pretty sure it was a solo dev beyond the VAs and musicians. oh, and the dev made up a new language that the entire game is voiced in. absolutely amazing, i will rave about this game for years to come.
Very fun
Burggeist is an incredibly fun genre mashup unlike anything I have ever played. "open world third person action tower defense" is how I would describe it. The plot can be briefly summed up as: "Your wife is stricken with a disease that has petrified her and to free her of this curse an invisible entity wrote to your daughter, saying you must build a very tall tower and your wife will be cured." While actively building a tower you will be assaulted by endless waves of "abhorers". They will not stop until you finish a tower, or choose to end the building phase. To defend the tower you have many magic abilities at your disposal, as well as your "burggeist" - a creature holding a giant stone slab with which you can place armaments like cannons on and command it to fire at the oncoming abhorers. Getting each tower past a certain height also causes unique quests to trigger which will introduce you to the people that live in Aliscans and provide lore on the area. While not in the process of building a tower, exploration is free from danger. The large open world holds lots of secrets including new armaments to place on your burggeist, accessories to equip on your character, various polyhedrons to destroy and stone sheep to collect to gather "Heretic Lime" the game's primary resource for upgrading. Exploration was so fun and carefree, the first night I played this I spent hours just running around Aliscans exploring every nook and cranny. I feel like it also helped me better understand how to control the burggeist better during the tower defense portion of the game. The store page says the developer recommends playing with a controller, and while I started out that way I quickly switched to mouse and keyboard and everything felt much more natural to control. Games like this don't come around often. Even the in game menus are works of art. I really hope Ghrian Studio keeps making games, because Burggeist is quite the treasure. Also, please add cloud saves!
games like this are truely gems man. i fear the day devs will just play it save and never release something like this. the story is just full on crazy but just as interesting. the battle system is also very unique and the ost is awesome too. iam SUPER sad this game is not more popular :(. also we just got a big update free of charge which made me finally commit to play this fr :D. 100000% must buy if you ask me.
It takes a little while to understand how to properly play this game, but when you do, it's an incredibly fun and memorable experience
