About
Once upon a time, the world was saved by the Brigandine.
This arcane armor, forged by the great sorcerer Lunadea, brought an end to the ambitions of the Abyssloa Empire.
200 years have since passed, and the continent’s current greatest superpower, the Kingdom of Solginat, has grown into a disquieting presence. In response, the rulers of various nations, spearheaded by the queen of Mysteine—a realm that carries on Lunadea’s will—gather together to issue a formal denunciation…

Story Mode
Experience the unique stories of six distinct nations, each set in motion by the rebirth of the Abyssloa Empire.

Whether to invade or not is for you to decide.

Battles are turn-based and take place on a hexagonal grid.

first time to play brigandine, requested refund, production quality is awful, feels like a cheap indie game, will buy again at 90% discount

This game has some really strong points and some really weak ones, with great game design and terrible product experience. If you like complex tactical combat, it has a lot to offer, otherwise I might avoid it. Strengths * Tactical combat is really delightful, and hides a huge amount of complexity with a simple skin. Very similar to the prior game which was way ahead of its time -> Total complexity is high but intuitive – zone of control, elements, str/def/int/res, terrain, many units to manage with different move and attack types+ranges -> Positioning is really powerful based on the balance of “you can do much stronger attacks if you haven’t moved, esp magic” + “mana pools are small and spells hit really hard” + “ZoC surround is a super powerful mechanic” + “terrain effects are strong” -> Taking out a hero unit will cause all its minions to retreat, which creates interesting tactical challenges and options. -> All units gain XP and so nothing is disposable. * I found the base management enjoyable and it kept it simple enough that you didn’t spend oodles of time in it (unless you want to) Weaknesses * UI is absurdly clunky, straight out of 1995. It takes 6 clicks to make a unit walk up to another unit and smack it, and they’re disjoint (!)(click unit on map -> click menu -> click map -> click menu -> click menu -> click map) * The “story” is also weirdly “1995 childrens’ toys”, with bizarrely scantily clad people, way too much text, and simplistic storylines. It has a borderline “visual novel” flavor that pairs weirdly for me with the relatively complex tactical combat * The AI is quite bad, ex often rushing forward backline hero units. Though this is partially offset by pre-loading the AI teams up with strong units, which leads to an experience of “outplaying” the AI. But training a future AI on “what would a human do” would make for a much better experience.
Game is great, really enjoyed everything about this - good unit building, stratgey, castle upgrades.
Красная цена - 300 рублей при безрыбье
Jumbled mess of thoughts here from somebody that just played for 5 hours. I'll probably revise this later down the road. I was kinda surprised seeing the reviews being in the mostly negative range, but I can sort of see why it's there. To add on to it, compared to the previous game on Steam, they kinda stripped away a fair bit when it comes to resource management now solely being focused on your money rather than also managing mana upkeep costs for your army, class swapping your heroes to other "class trees" no longer being a thing, and the story locking you out of attacking certain spots on the map, rather than just letting you play freely. It is somewhat frustrating but I can only hope that there is a mode you unlock later that lets you enjoy more of a sandbox mode, or a creative mode like in the previous entry where you could mix and match to create your own faction of sorts after beating the game once. Could be that's what the mission mode is for, I'll amend my review if that's the case later. The game also has some performance issues, which surprises me as SRPGs typically tend to run pretty well. I imagine there's some further optimization to be had on that front. Now with the worst of it out of the way, it's... more Brigandine with that simple and fun gameplay loop, just with a touch better map design and a surprising amount of great tracks to listen to for each of the maps. Speaking of the maps, they all have different designs and don't quite feel quite as generic as Runersia, and they include more terrain to consider to the point that I think it really makes Runersia look like Fire Emblem 2 in comparison. If I could name one caveat to the music though, it seems that your faction track will override the map BGM after the first turn. I don't know if it's a bug, but it does make me a little sad when I hear a great track pop on only for it to be overwritten after the next turn. The designs I feel also aren't quite as cohesive as the last game's designs. They're not necessarily bad in most cases, but it does feel like a number of artists collaborated on the portraits rather than there being one unified style guide to follow, other than the generic units. It's a little jarring to see what reminds me of old Phantasy Star art alongside something like Fire Emblem Awakening's art, but it's all there. If you liked Runersia's gameplay loop, it's mostly intact. The way quests are handled, as well as equipping some units feels a little better as well. I can cautiously recommend it if you're in the mood for something simple with a decent coat of paint on it, but I can only hope the developers fix certain things up like being able to reclass characters into different trees and keep abilities, or provide some sort of free play mode, because otherwise I'd just recommend Runersia over this, and to only grab this if you got your fill from that game. I like Brigandine's loop enough to say I'd recommend it if you're also an enjoyer of it, but for most people this is going to be a very hard sell as it currently stands.
