I've known about the Bioshock series for years but never played any of them and I went into this one knowing nothing. Let's see how this game is! So there's this genetic substance called ADAM secreted by sea slugs that gives you superpowers. Ok cool, i'm going to need a lot of this stuff! Luckily, the scientists of Rapture discovered that implanting a sea slug into a human hosts stomach yields a larger amount of ADAM. This means i'll need to remove or loot the slug from the enemies I kill, right? Nope! The narrative demands that little girls have to be forcibly impregnated instead! Because they are the only viable hosts for this procedure, you understand. Strange concept but whatever, the gameplay is decent enough and the weapon variety is great. Let's keep going. Eventually I defeat Fontaine and rescue all the "little sisters", earning the GoodEnding™. Let's watch the cutscene! The little sisters you rescue grow up to lead fulfilling lives far away from Rapture. Some even get married, good for them! But wait, the hand of the groom here has one glaring flaw, can you spot what it is for yourself? https://youtu.be/QwYX8nuQeko?t=39 The early life section for the director of this project Ken Levine is exactly what you would expect. I liked this game for the plotline, atmosphere, weapon variety and pacing, but the very questionable and deliberate narrative choices I've outlined in this review cast an insidious shadow over this game.
