About

Beasts of Bermuda is a multiplayer survival game in which the player is a dinosaur or other prehistoric creature. A player can take the role of flyers, swimmers, herbivores, carnivores, and semi-aquatic creatures that fulfill different niches in the ecosystem. No matter what the player chooses to be, the objective of the game is to survive and grow up on the islands of Bermuda by using their particular creature's abilities. Predation from other players as well as intense environmental events are the antagonistic forces in the game the player must survive against.
There are currently three game modes in Beasts of Bermuda.

In Free Roam game mode the player selects a creature of choice and spawns into the world as a juvenile of that species. They must survive and gradually grow larger over time. As growth accumulates, they also earn talents, which can be spent to enhance different aspects of your creature's capabilities. In this mode growth is slower but resource management is easier.
In Life Cycle game mode the player selects a creature and spawns into the world as a juvenile of that species. You must survive and grow larger in a fast paced growth setting. As growth accumulates, you will earn talents to enhance different aspects of your creature's capabilities. After 1.32 growth you can choose to enter a stage called Gauntlet, where the difficulty of the game increases with growth in the form of food, water, and ailment management. In this mode growth is faster but resource management is harder. Compete on a monthly leaderboard to earn the top growth ranking for your species!
In Combat game mode players are pitted against one another with mechanics that are designed to reward conflict. Servers can use Deathmatch Maps which are smaller with close together spawn locations. The player spawns in as an adult creature of their choice and can accrue more talent points by killing other players and stealing their points. The game mode is endless and uses points and kill/death ratios to show who reigns supreme on the server.

Used to love this game - Until I found out about all the absolutely insane crap the lead dev has done! DO NOT SUPPORT THIS GAME OR THE LEAD DEV!! Unless of course, you're somehow fine with the following: - Lead Dev who acts like a petulant child who isn't capable of having a mature discussion or holding themselves accountable for anything they say or do. - Lead Dev who hires their own staff member's legitimate abuser to the staff team, with full knowledge of that fact. - Lead Dev who purposely misgenders trans folks despite being corrected on multiple occasions. - Lead Dev who supports eugenics and thinks autism is a crisis due to 'bad breeding'. - Lead Dev who lies to their community, deletes their own apology posts, allows mass banning of players who speak up against it or ask too many questions, and calls their player-base nasty names. - Doesn't ban players who make transphobic, homophobic, racist, or otherwise harmful remarks regarding current political climates and events. - And has repeated this cycle for YEARS. We don't have any hope left for real change, just more excuses. So basically, if you support toxicity of such an extreme level that I'm surprised they can still wake up every morning and face themselves in the mirror, then you'll love this game! If not, then LET IT CRASH AND BURN LIKE IT DESERVES!

I do not recommend this game to anyone. I am a co-owner of a server that was game banned for "using an exploit" I sent in all logs to prove this was all false, after officials refused to show me the log. I am STILL paying for that server to be up, but our whole community left, because of our wrongful banning. I opened a ticket on 7/7 and have had no responses since 7/13 18+ days ago. Also I do believe they have a community server breaking Steams ToS with taking "donations for the server" in return for in-game materials, but can be banned from that server. Later to be told that money does NOT go to the server, but personal purchases.. I sent $540 and have screenshots of amount sent and to who, because the owner said to. All of that to say good luck to anyone that buys, OR decides to play, do research on owners if you can.
Imagine getting banned because the devs got in their feelings, and just ban hammered you for an innocent comment 💀💀💀
I've played this game for nearly 4k hours, I'm not saying any of this out of bias. PLEASE consider other games -- Path of Titans at least actually updates instead of jingling some keys telling players to be excited for a new dino when there are absolutely apalling problems in the game. - So, first of all, Pred needs to pull that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stick out of their rear, LISTEN TO CRITICISM, and WORK ON THE GAME THEY MADE, PEOPLE HAVE PAID FOR THIS. The most blaring issues have been the response earned that isn't complete adoration when it comes to things like YEARS OLD bugs. Pred HAS, in fact, said ''♥♥♥♥ you'' to the community they foster, and when they're not being rude, we are told that ''devs are humans/be nice to us''. When y'all can learn to handle being told that players aren't satisfied with their experience in the game without being offended or telling us ''sucks to suck'', then I MIGHT change my mind about the dev team and the way they behave. - Key features from dinos like Mosasaurus (which can grab other dinos and thrash em) are so nerfed to the ground that they're basically useless, the only niche herbis have is face-tank the carni and hope for the best, and don't even get me started with the insane collection of carnis VS the few herbi species there are in here. The last 4-5 dinos released have ALL been carnivores and outside of Sai, Coah or Apa, playing as a wiggly chicken drumstick that can get 1-tapped by a massive rex is NOT fun at all. - There is NOTHING of semblance in the game that has any sort of variety. The only things you can do in the base game is either fight against the clock to not starve your ass off or hatch from a thousand or so eggs in the hopes of getting a dino with stripes that glow. Come tf on man. I shouldn't have to waste hundreds of hours only to get a mutation that makes me look like a bright red blood clot. (Piebald, by the way, is only one or more locked white layers. NOT an actual pied pattern.) - Modding isn't a thing either so you have to sit and pray to find a somewhat playable server that won't have an absolutely insane amount of rules. The ONLY thing even remotely interesting about the game right now is that you can design cool dinos and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less.
I supported this game up until I became familiar with how deceptive and snakey the staff are when it comes to silencing and threatening users over critcism. My final straw was watching the lead dev fake poverty and desperation to farm his players for funding when ex-developers and staff members later confirmed he's not only WELL funded and secure, he lives in excess and spends most of his time and GAME FUNDING on regular vacations while pretending to be struggling and desperate. The game is also running on a code he doesn't fully understand because he didn't really do it himself, resulting in lead developers Predatoria and Soals pretending to hold authority and knowledge they simply do not have while playing a game of Jenga with the coding, deleting player progress and/or significantly damaging player experiences with patches and offering a very "sucks, but that's our answer" attitude in retaliation to player backlash. It would be incredibly immoral for me to recommend this game to you unless you obtain it for free.

Incompetent developers who further tear this game apart with lack of professionalism. There is no war in BoB Sing Se even if valid criticisms are brought up within the Discord. Unfortunate failure of a once promising title.
The Positives
Beasts of Bermuda started off with inexperienced, yet passionate developers who cultivated a unique entry in the dinosaur sim genre. It has features that were sorely lacking in its competition at the time The Isle --or mechanics that were "new," relatively speaking.

Customization Freedom
PvE Elements: Tides, Storms, Floods, Fires, Tornados
Flyers & Aquatics
Rudimentary "Genetics" & Talent Tree System
Carrying Offspring & Unique Abilities
Multiple Save Slots

The Negatives
Unfortunately, the lead developers of this game bit off more than they could chew. Over the course of 7 years, each update brought forth more cracks in the shaky foundation they built on. Lack of coding knowledge, store bought assets with rushed implementation, horrendous balancing, and lack of transparency or lies to the community have destroyed what promise this game had. Former staff-- moderators, quality assurance, public relations, security, modelers and animators have also come forth to share what knowledge they had of the culture behind the scenes and the sheer incompetence of the lead developers to a depressing degree, oft with proof. Within the game itself, officials are prided as moderated yet even simple tickets can take days or weeks at a time-- worst case scenario: months. With each moderator having their own verdicts that can make the experience inconsistent and confusing. Hackers can roam freely and when players beg for staff to help them, they are often met with "make a ticket." And that is if the player is not met with the worst of the staff themselves, who can be described as a clique with very rash and unprofessional behavior. Outside of the few good ones, of course. Some of the incompetency is not their fault, however. The way their moderation system is set up slows things down tremendously, and overbearing NDAs prevent staff from a good chunk of transparency that most games tend to have. (Thankfully, the developers have potentially figured out how to make legally binding NDAs after years of creating null and void ones.) Much as it is a feature that is highly beloved in the community, and often is quick to garner attention from players interested in buying the game-- infinite growth is a bane upon the balance of the game. It always has been, even when growth used to be much slower in pre-gauntlet days. Post-Gauntlet it has plunged the game into an unfortunate, repetitive and boring cycle. If you do not want to participate in it, you will be slaughtered by players who have-- as they grow far beyond you and are stronger by consequence since your growth is paused. If you do participate in it, you will eventually find that just existing is a chore, as the food and water drains keep you on the grind. If you falter for even a moment, get sick, etc-- you will more than likely die. The cycle will then repeat. This in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, as many enjoy harsh experiences. The issue lies in that this wasn't what the game originally was, and the older game mode with vastly slower growth is abandoned developmentally to focus on a mode that is a chore to play in long-term. This does not fix the balance issue, either, but the developers have a habit of making things unfun as a form of balance, rather than seeking alternative solutions that players will enjoy. Another matter is how buggy the game is which also makes Gauntlet an issue. If you contract illness, your saving grace is charcoal which can bug out and be inedible. Or food can refuse to be consumed by your dinosaur, leading you to die. In hindsight, perhaps there is a reason many of these kinds of games do not pursue infinite growth as a mechanic. The bugs were mentioned earlier, but there is a reason the players jokingly refer to the game Beasts of Bugmuda. Some bugs have been within the game for years with no fix in sight. Your beloved dinosaurs have the chance to be wiped if you crash and the server restarts, for example-- which has been present for a very long time. Simple QoL fixes won't be implemented for years, but when they are they are almost always broken. Take the recent censorship filter, which filters the chat for "gay" but not actual slurs against the LGBTQ+ community. Many of the implementations are only done when a fire is lit underneath the developers, such as controversy and community tantrums (while sometimes unreasonable, often have reasonable origins) -- or flat out ego-related. Many former QA have spoken that they could not reach developers for serious bugs or fixes. The unoptimization of the game is also atrocious. Beasts of Bermuda has been doomed ever since the implementation of Gauntlet and the lead developer Vipe left. According to those behind the scenes, he was the only developer who would try to locate the source of why the community was angry. Predatoria, one of the remaining 2 lead developers, has admitted that he understands little of Vipe's code and that is why the game can respond violently to any attempted changes, particularly with the skin system and climbing mechanics. The shaky foundation will only crumble further with time, especially with Predatoria refusing to outsource funding to professionals. (Yet takes many a lavish trip while his artists were financially struggling, or so I'm told.) The source code was also recently leaked, which may only increase the hacking issues the game sees and other security concerns.
The Disgusting
Ban waves within the Official Discord and Predatoria or other staff crashouts are not uncommon, but the recent one was the nail in the coffin that made me decide to review the game. An admin on the team, with many incompetent controversies aside attached to their name, was revealed to have attempted to hire a 🍇ist. A 🍇ist of whom had abused a member of the team that had confided in this admin previously. Zunaria, the admin in question, later claimed that they had forgotten this exchange to a degree, enough that they compartmentalized it as "couples bickering." And they, despite being a grown adult, needed someone older to explain to them why the victim reacted strangely to being informed that Zunaria would potentially hire their abuser. This was according to them. Ultimately, the 🍇ist was never hired, but the potential had been there. Many decided to try to get answers for this, especially after Predatoria deleted his apology for his former eugenics comments. Players sought out a staff statement, an acknowledgement, a correction, Zunaria's resignation-- anything. Instead, they were met with bans for even mentioning the subject. Some, who only reacted to messages on the official Discord, were also banned. If the situation was poorly or even wrongfully understood by those calling it out, it still did not justify such a harsh reaction. Rather, the staff should have addressed the controversy. And if the situation is in fact what happened, the look is even worse.
The Conclusion
Ultimately, this review does not cover everything positive or negative within the game. It does not cover all of the controversies or drama. Some of it you will have to experience for yourself if you choose to get into it. At one point I loved this game. This account was gifted it by a friend, but I eventually bought 12 alt accounts on my own back in 2020. Decision after decision on the developers part have worn me down, I have long fallen out of love. I was content to check back every so often, see if things improved, but I was almost always met with disappointment. And as of recently, disgust. Perhaps things will improve someday. But as it stands, that is only wishful thinking unless the lead developers make some serious changes. The foundation only continues to crumble.

This game, which costs the same as a McDonald's meal, is not worth buying. Unfortunately, it's more of an addictive game based on the growth rate of a creature. The game has been in development for over seven years now, and nothing has really changed. The community can't wait that long for a game that ends up unoptimized, with bugs and hackers everywhere, and a team that doesn't listen and even censors players who want to express themselves. The developers are also very disappointing, especially the creator of this game, who doesn't pay the people who work on it, and who end up leaving the team with several thousand dollars in unpaid wages. You can feel this in the gameplay, especially in the sometimes sloppy models and animations, and creatures that are sidelined due to the new lack of staff. There are also many other issues, but there's no point in adding them here. Suffice it to say that if I hadn't made friends through this game, I would have uninstalled it years ago. For all new players reading the reviews, I recommend having a computer more powerful than NASA's so you can play without any problems... and having a good place to pray that you don't run into all the local hackers or encounter bugs or desync, which have been a huge problem for years. Have fun!
