One of the best first-person puzzle games. Albeit quite a bit more minimalist compared to Portal and The Witness, it is easily just as clever and interesting. Uniquely mind-bending and fun!

Antichamber is an interesting first-person puzzle game that drops you into a surreal, minimalist maze where the rules constantly shift. What makes it stand out is how it plays with perception. Corridors loop in impossible ways, paths change when you're not looking at them, and progress often depends on unlearning normal video game instincts. The game is clean, with bold colors highlighting important mechanics against mostly white environments. It also ran well on the Steam Deck. Sadly, it has no achievements, and I had to map R1 to Middle Mouse Click since the default DS4 layout was missing the binding. The difficulty can be frustrating at times, and over the years I spent a few hours here and there pushing a little further, or hitting the same wall yet again. Eventually I got tired of not progressing and used this video guide to help me through the final half of the game. After following the guide, admittedly there were things I would have needed a few more years to figure out, so I'm glad I used it to reach the end. A little more instruction and direction could have gone a long way. Still, if mind-bending puzzle games are your thing, this will be absolutely worth your time (just be prepared to think in ways most games will never expect of you).
8/10
Nonlinear space, this is what Antichamber's reputation promised me. So as such I left my preconception about what space meant to me and hopped on its ride. Confident in my sight reading and pattern recognition skills. I consider Antichamber to be a masterpiece of gamedesign with marketing packaging that disonors its value as an interactive environmental artwork. Its minimalist aesthetics should even be studied in artschools worldwide, as the most accessible example of visual identity serving conceptual art. Failure doesn't exist in Antichamber. There is dead ends with doors closing on you, but it's only a push on the escape button away to restart another adventure through its corridors. You might think you'd be lonely in those liminal corridors, but the intentions of its creators permeate down to the smallest interaction, the single cube, the single choice you make. It's a reflection on our shared human condition, like every single great artpiece is about. If you let yourself *feel* Antichamber's spaces, it will reward you with its secrets.
An incredible psychological puzzle game. When I first read the words "Live on your own watch, not on someone else's" I was really to perceive it after what I'd been through.
This game doesn't work on MacOS (Apple Silicone). When it starts I see only white screen and loader as cursor
Portal walked so Antichamber could run and Blue Prince could fly
A very good and outside-the-box puzzle game, hampered by some annoyingly recursive area design, a lack of clear direction, and, particularly at the end, some unintuitive solutions that you simply have to stumble upon by accident as there's zero logical means of deducing how to proceed. More than half of my play time comes from an aborted first-run years ago, when I got stuck going round in circles and didn't have the time or inclination to figure out where to go next. I uninstalled and never had the slightest desire to ever return to it until tonight, when I finished it in one sitting. The game's visual style is one-of-a-kind but honestly nausea inducing, and can sometimes make it extremely hard to track where you've been or where you're supposed to go. I probably spent a total of 30 mins throughout this run trying to decode the map and figure out what I'd missed. Many of the solutions simply lead to dead-end rooms that display work-in-progress images and while the information is mildly interesting, it's frustrating to spend a significant amount of time trying to solve a puzzle that leads nowhere. For me, this is definitely one of those 'I wish they had a neutral review option' games. It's a unique and valuable piece of art, but I don't think that it's as good or essential an experience as the review aggregate makes it out to be. The Witness is just as mind-boggling, nicer to look at, and offers a similar experience in stretching a single type of puzzle as far as it can possibly go. If you're very interested in innovative puzzles games then it's worth a look, but if you're not committed to the genre there's a genuine chance you won't like or finish this game.
