From the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Dear Esther comes a new first-person horrorgame that will drag you to the depths of greed, power and madness. It will bury its snout into your ribs and it will eat your heart.

The first time I played this game, it was on launch in 2013. As a big fan of the previous Amnesia and Penumbra games, I was very excited with high expectations. This game plays very differently than the previous games, where at the time, was sorely disappointing. I recently revisited this game, and while I'd still consider it a weaker game in the Amnesia series, it still has a rich story and dark atmosphere that can stand on its own. The game is very linear and story driven, but with very few puzzles and enemy encounters. I'd still recommend the game if you're a fan of the Amnesia series, but be warned the game play is very limited and serves more as an interactive story than anything. Ideally, you'd get this game on sale or in a bundle.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Disappointing experience. As a horror fan and Amenesia games supporter, I thought playing this game would send chills down my spine. This game goes a different route than the first, and in my opinion - a worse route. Story aspect was not terrible, but left alot to wish for. Playtime seems very short, making the story fall flat because of how rushed it felt. The monster design was not scary to me personally. Also monster encounters were rare and very staged. Instead of having a monster roam free like in the first game, here the game events are predestined, meaning you don't have as much of a free will to play as you want [which affects the scare factor]. The atmosphere however was kept mostly the same as the first game, which is perfect. Overall, I think the change of developer studio made a big impact on why this game wasn't as good as it could've been.
People who dismiss this game as a “walking simulator” should revisit it and pay closer attention to the story. A Machine for Pigs is one of the best artistic metaphors for the idea that no eldritch horror we invent can ever be more terrifying than the horrors created by humanity itself.
dumb dumb
I really want to recommend this game, I really do. It's lovely in every way. The ambience, the sound design, the chracter design and so on. But it all too much just falls flat on the gameplay side. Considering this is the successor to the dark descent it just feels jarring to see the stark difference between the two. Length wise and interactive gameplay wise. I don't usually mind a pure walking simulator. Especially not one where the dialogue as well as the ambience and music just go insanely hard. But it just doesn't sit right with me to really recommend this game as an Amnesia game, because of the lack of amnesia elements. The tension just isn't there due to the enemy encounters as well as the lack of any sense of dread due to limited lighting or sanity. I also encountered 2 crashes of the game towards the end which led to me having to walk through the same area multiple times as well as a lot of system issues frame and optimization wise. This game still is a really good walk simulator, I would wholeheartedly recommend it if it was a standalone game and maybe the predecessor of The Dark Descent, but that isn't the reality we live in and I just have to tell you to pass on it if you want an Amnesia game.
Neither a good game nor a horror game at all. Boring walking simulator gameplaywise and too long for what it is. 10/20. The setup and story are not bad, but the game has a tendency to use too many words to express everything, from the enormous amount of letters and notes to the dialogues, every sentence is so obtuse and tedious to read. The gameplay lacks a lot of interactivity elements compared to the first game, the puzzles are not clever or interesting, nor meaningful but since you have just a few interactable elements in the game you usually pass through the puzzles etc.. without even noticing just click on every interactable object and that's it. Conclusion it's not bad, but not good at all.
One of the best horror games !
