Very competent metroidvania. The rate at which you get skills is good. And I absolutely love the art direction. The 3D environment with relatively chunky pixels really works. Combat and movement feel pretty good too. Though I could never really able to get that you can't Megaman X style wall jump despite it feels like you should. You have to refresh you wall jumps by touching a different wall, which is kind of weird. Also, money felt kind of useless. There are like, two permanent items you can purchase (one of which is just for an achievement), otherwise money is just for consumables. And since there's no experience or levels, it doesn't really feel like there's much of a reason to fight things. I did anyways because, like I said earlier, combat is fun regardless. But yeah, good game. Worth your time.

There are some crazy places with parkour that are very bad to go through on the keyboard. I had to switch to a steamdeck - it became much more comfortable to play. The graphics are beautiful, and the character animations are quite cool. I liked the music. I'll probably add more later while my impressions are positive.
I came into this game with 0 expectations, and I enjoyed my time with Akatori. This is a mostly linear action game that lasted about 6.5 hours on hard mode, but keep in mind that I did not do any of the optional challenges. The one thing that Akatori does incredibly well is setting a coherent mood throughout each section of the game. Even though this is a pixel art game, it really didn't feel like it. I was always interesting in seeing the next area and I was never disappointed when arriving there. The characters in the game are pretty likable, and the dialogue is decent. There was a couple places towards the end that felt more frustrating than fun, but 95% of the game was quite entertaining. If you can take a little bit of jank here and there, I think this would be a good time for just about anyone who like action platformers.
First impression: Smooth and absolutely beautiful to look at!
What an amazing game! I love the art this Metroidvania has really unique. Can't wait to play it on consoles!
