This is definitely a meh to a don't buy type of game. I recently bought their WW1 title and I can confidently say that this one is quite inferior compared to it. Let me tell you why: Firstly-Unlike in the WW1 title, in here you don't manage any cool gadgets like the flare gun, instead you just fly around, aim your gun, shoot and repeat. There is nothing else about it. Bombing is also very easy. Most of the time it is just dive bombing as there are no bombers. Closest thing you get to a bomber is the Tigercat, which is technically just a heavy fighter. There are no backgunners here either and it all just feels very repetitive once you reach around the 2 hour mark. Secondly-A lot of handholding. Constant chatter about how I need to lower flaps to fly slower or to drop bombs and everytime I get hit my pilot feels the need to announce it to himself. Thirdly-Physics. Speaking of flaps if you lower the flaps to max and you cut the throttle you are almost standing still and yet you still can turn like nobody's business. I generally am cool with the arcady flight model but this is a bit of a stretch. Fourthly-Historicality. I am not gonna pry into the cockpits not being authentic enough or anything like that but one thing that buggers me is that everything in this game lands on an aircraft carrier. Whether that be an P-51, P-47 or an Spitfire, many planes in this game saw limited to no use on aircraft carriers and the fact that we cannot simply land on an airstrip and must land on a carrier everytime is in my opinion cheap and something that is very reminiscent of mobile games. Lastly-Not enough Japanese planes. This game is very much Allies focused. The few Japanese planes you get are generally not any different and your pilot still speaks English (the explanation being that the plane has been captured from the Japanese). In their WW1 title you can play as both the entente and central powers but in here you just play as the Americans/Australians. If you want to buy a VR title from this Warplane franchise, give the WW1 game a shot and only then consider getting this one.

I was thinking I could at least get somewhat of a sim-lite experience, something with a flight model similar to IL-2 Great Battles but generally easier. Unfortunately, unlike what a number of reviewers claimed, this has zero sim aspects to it at all. go over 50% throttle? engine overheats. Want to shoot ground targets? just deploy flaps and now you fly at 10mph so its a shooting gallery. Want a dogfight with a zero? it has a turning radius of what seems like 50 feet. This game has the depth of a literal arcade game at chuck-e-cheese.
It's a flight game--Would be great to have Hotas (Thrustmaster to be specific) supported in this game..
Definitely not a simulator, but it sure is a whole lot of fun.
Arcade game in VR, potential to be amazing (albeit surprisingly dizzying.) I'd recommend it, were it possible to get past the first mission lol. I'm to single handedly down like 6 balloons, AA emplacement, 4 or 6 zero's, three destroyers, and a battleship? Really? ... I'd love something like this with actual simulation physics though. Planes do have rudders, for example.
I genuinely like the entire Warplanes seriens, I just wish that the progression system that you find in singleplayer could be played in co-op with friend compared to just pre-made/custom missions
after playing the 3 VR titles in the Warplanes series, I can confidently say this is the best of them. There's always at least one really fun mission to select on the map before you lift off the carrier. My only criticism is that there is no way to add your own textures as insignias to use on your plane. this is a very fun VR flight combat game and I'd recommend it to anyone, even players unfamiliar with flight sims/games.
Very good for this price! Especially for the beginners like me. Unfortunatelly planes only from Japan & USA Air Forces, but there are enough models and upgrades for them.
warning they never update,,,gets old fast
