I will preface this by saying I got this from a Fanatical Mystery Egg Bundle, in which this was sadly one of the better pulls. This game starts off incredibly strong. But... That's kind of it. The game has voice acting for the first few hours or so, but it seems to die out after awhile and the grammar errors/typos increased as I've played through the game. I got about halfway through the game, Fleet Power 49 and I'm flying around with the Meadow Hawk Cargo ship or whatever, then I realized, the game is literally just land at city, do whatever, go to city, do whatever, go to next city, land, etc, etc, etc. The combat is fun when you actually want/end up doing combat, but unfortunately almost all of the combats feel forced. Enemies literally spawn right in front of you so you can't even look away from your screen while you are cruising. It's not a matter of they exist on the map and they go toward you, no, they spawn directly in front of you. I understand technical limitations of not having persistent fleets constantly flying around(Though other games have similar mechanics that still do this kind of thing decently). My biggest gripe is how I can(figuratively) see the code of the game as I am playing, watching them spawn in my path and do circular loops to try and randomly knock their annoying circles of aggro/slowdown(I know you can turn the slowdown part off, but it's not worth it) into me. And what combat there is ends up being more tedious the longer you play the game, rather than the enjoyable combat it was at the beginning, since you know the game is LITERALLY out for you and you have to take manual control to avoid the enemies if you don't want to deal with combat at the moment, such as if you are in the middle of a bunch of commissions and you want to get that done to buy a thing you want. It's the constant fatigue of systems working against the player, instead of for or at least working with the player. Not to mention the UI and the ship transport systems. It feels incredibly clunky as you are going through menu and nested menu trying to find ships and send ships and remotely buying items, then direct ships to set up cargo runs to bring you items or bring items to locations you need it at, then the whole thing that you can't even set up a singular trip and have to keep track of a ship until it is done with the cargo run to turn off the cargo run since you just needed that one trip of items that one time. Everything feels clunky and like it works against the player, leading to compounding fatigue of systems that just don't want to work with you or for you, only against you. At the very least, lower fleet power enemies should want to run away, similar fleet power enemies should be hesitant to want to fight you, it doesn't matter if they are pirates or outlaws or not. Realistically they would fight against a weaker fleet or one that isn't stronger than them. It's just so... Tedious. The player is targeted because they are the player without any sort of rhyme or reason, enemies not valuing their lives and throwing a 5 fleet power group against my fleet power of 49, the UI doesn't work with the player, have to manually do many things that could be automated to do a single time. Don't get me wrong, I really like this game, I enjoy it for what it is, but when you really enjoy something, you have to accept that it has faults and even I can get tired of something I enjoy with enough system fatigue. I enjoy many games that other people might not and I'll probably still open this game up now and again, but I cannot recommend this to others. I enjoy things that some people don't and I can deal with jank, but I know that kind of thing isn't for everyone. So being honest with my review and hoping the game could eventually get better, that would be nice, but this is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

English is not my main language, So...yeah... Ok first of all, every negative review here is good, and tell us truth by 90% of the time. What they loosing is technical issues that make game unplayable. 1) All ships are made of this modules, cool idea, seen it in lot of games, but in this game? Deam unoptimised. I got myself 2 heavy trade ships (with no trading or dealing with game supplu and economy because it's borring and garbage anyway), and outfited them into battleships with tons of cargo, weapons, scrap to repair, ect. What do you think? I got 20 FPS...lags even, and when i speed up game (ships are heavy and slow after all) I got even lower...AND EVEN LOWEr when i crash into other ship. WHY? I guess game always stay loaded in fights with this module system, and check for their status and hp probably, so my gameplay for 1.5 million ship outfit become worse then before. Nice. 2) Storyline make us "silent protagonist" so most of dialogues are going without us inside just with some notice like "commandore lets do this"...then why do i need to even make player character and even do some modeling? Make this guy Jean main hero and all, i will be more interested in story if im at least have...face? And people talk with me, and im not just some decoration that only controll ship and buld stuff. Cmon, they do their quests, they do their story while im just watching and driving them thrue...or fight for them,,,or build trading empire for them. I start skipping dialogue windows like in half of the game when im literally tired of simmilar missions are stuff. 3) It's all same...you have 3 activities here: Fight other ship. (max 3v3 only, sorry dude we didnt optimised game so you get what you get) Bring stuff to location. (because why make anything automatic and maybe add some treashure hunt of something, just put stuff, skip some dialogues, oh wow it;s precataclism bunker that you will never see and never get in, oh wow it's nice riddle. too bad other guy do it for you...just...bring stuff in and get jobe done, all) And finding stuff to get mission go thrue. (At first i loved system where characters need beer and meat or something alse for level up and for missions, lile, we doing nice party to get you ptomoted, or i give my engineer tolls to make stuff better, nice idea....too bad it become grind very fast and job where you lose 30 minutes of the game to get on 2 differend sidea of map and go back just to see 3 dialogue windows....or not even it) I tryed...I thinked it will be like Treashure plant game on steroids...but even Treashure planet have nicer system where you FLY BETWEEN ISLAND ANS SPACE OBJECTS AND ACTUALY LAND ON THE BASES THAT ALSO HAVE TURRETS AND CAN PROTECT THEMSELF....and here you just load from stage "we fly abowe islands" inso stage "we can do city with PNG but we made it 3d, so you got interested that you can build and change it (no you not)" and dont forget about separate battle map with no other ships or even ability to land properly, just escape or kill enemy...EVEN CORSAIRS HAVE ACTUAL ISLANDS THAT YOU CAN GO FROM ONE TO ANOTHER WITHOUT FAST TRAVEL, Maybe im wrong and game indeed good, but for me...god im tired of this after all the games i played with simmilar mechanics and stile, that actualy tryed to do something cool.
Feels like it's designed to be more frustrating and tedious than fun. So many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ menus, so much fiddling around with sending ships to and fro, while the game freezes for a solid 5 seconds if I try to see my materials in other warehouses. Freight Duty is such a needlessly confusing system. Why is there an auto'buy/sell' function in it if it does not function as an auto buy or sell? What is the purpose of freight ships if you can't do a simple automation of buying and selling? Ship customization, as cool as it might seem, is severely limited by the constrained areas you can put certain things in. If I select a new ship I captured as my flagship, but I'm in a port without a shipyard, why on earth can I not move the Gunner from the old flagship to the new one? Why is that process limited to the ship fitting menu?
The biggest problem with this game isn't that it's difficult—it's that almost every mechanic feels designed to slow the player down instead of rewarding them. Officer progression is unnecessarily restrictive. Some officers level naturally through combat, while others require specific quests just to unlock further progression, then additional quest items or rare materials scattered across the world. It's progression gated behind more progression. Ship building limits creativity. Instead of letting players experiment, ships have rigid layouts that dictate what components can fit where. You're forced to play Tetris with oddly shaped modules, but without the freedom to create your own effective designs. Combat often ignores its own mechanics. Enemy ships can continue fighting after their ammo should be gone, empty ships somehow keep resisting capture, and many encounters feel like they're only there to waste your resources and time. The three starting professions feel oddly restrictive. Military, Merchant, and Logician each lock important mechanics behind your starting choice, making parts of the game feel artificially inaccessible instead of encouraging different playstyles. Your character barely exists. Despite supposedly being the commander, you're mostly an invisible employer while your first mate speaks for you in every conversation. It makes the adventure feel detached, as if you're funding someone else's story instead of living your own. The overall impression is that the game constantly puts barriers between the player and the fun. Every system seems to add another layer of requirements, restrictions, or busywork. Instead of making meaningful choices, you're spending most of your time working around mechanics that exist to slow your progress. My biggest suggestion to the developers would be to remove the restrictive ship layout system. Giving players more freedom to experiment with builds would immediately make one of the game's core mechanics far more enjoyable.
The game is pretty good, and they are still currently updating the game.
I really wish Steam had a "neutral" option for games like this. The base gameplay is solid (a 2D plane with battleship broadside-style combat combined with an open-world where you can trade, become an industrialist, be a mercenary, or a pirate, or any combination of the three) set in an interesting world, but there are glaring flaws that need to be fixed. For starters, this game is saying it's a full release, but the latest notes say that it's still in Beta. It should be released in Early Access, but it's not. So hopefully that means that a lot of the issues that are currently plaguing the game will be fixed. Issue 1: The speed/time passage in the game. The game operates on an odd time dilation formula: 1 in-game minute is 20 seconds IRL. This presents an odd feeling when travelling since the game seems to calculate the IRL time it would take to go that distance at that speed, but the speed the game says the fleet is traveling is wrong. The game would show that my fleet was traveling in excess of 200 km/h, but distances about 150 km away were going to take 2.5 hours to reach... Like what? I calculated that no matter what the speedometer is saying in the UI for how fast your fleet is going, it is going at around 60 km/h in Cruise Mode, which is marginally faster than your fleet just travelling at full speed (mine was regularly going around 45 km/h). Cruise Mode also requires fuel (but regular flying does not) and it guzzles down fuel for not that much additional actual speed. The Cruise Mode also shuts down every time you get in a "danger zone" for passing enemy ships and if they fly away, you have to restart the Cruise Mode, which can take up to 60 seconds (if you have larger ships in your fleet). Thankfully the game lets you speed up time by 10x, which can help for those really long journeys across the map. Issue 2: The story for the game. The writing in the story is meh. It's largely forgettable and you might even want to skip it because it just gets to be a drag on the gameplay. Most of the quests you get in the game are either fetch quests or combat quests. There is a section in Act 2 (there are 9 total acts in the story) where you are literally just flying from place to place for SEVERAL missions. "Get these papers from two people in different places, then get it signed by the Minister of Trade. Oh! They're not here, they are surely at this location. Oh! They are not here, you just missed them. You will surely find them at this next location!" and so on and so forth until you finally have to do one last fetch quest so you can finally complete the quest by going back across the map. If there was a Sandbox mode, I did not see one, but this game would definitely benefit from one. Just being able to start out with your own company and be able to play the game your own way without the silly story would be a welcome change from the endless "go back and forth" quests in the campaign. Also locking features of the game behind the story also kind of drags the game down and make it progress slower. Issue 3: World map maneuverability. There are times that when your ship is trying to align itself with its heading, the ship just reverses in circles endlessly, even when it is facing the direction it should be going, because I guess it is trying to position itself in relation to other ships in your fleet? I am not sure why it does it, but I've seen it happen multiple times. I then have to manually align it, start going forward, go back to the world map, then reset the auto-travel. There are also floating "islands" (for lack of a better term) whose sole purpose seems to be disrupting your auto-travel. I never fought close enough to one to use it for cover and tactics, they were just kind of there... inconveniently. Thankfully your ship will go out of Cruise Mode if it will collide with one and slowly move around the island and then continue back on in Cruise Mode, but with the long recharge times, it was just a pointless inconvenience rather than something that was fun or added something to the game. They could disappear and it would overall improve the experience. Issue 4: Tutorials. There are a couple of very basic tutorials that teach you the very basics of the game. The ship customization was the most helpful of the two tutorials in the game. The rest of it is just screens of text that were not super easy to read and were a little overwhelming. The game did a good job in teaching the basics in the basic movement tutorial, but they could have expanded it, or created a different tutorial for moving in the world at large. Like marking the map, what the icons mean when you select destinations, etc. I still think it is a solid game and it does have potential to be a lot of fun with more development. Again, do not buy this game expecting a full-release game. It is still in seemingly early Beta and probably has many years left of development before it will get its 1.0. While it can be fun, just be ready for a lot of issues that can frustrate and dull your experience.
