World of Tanks is a tactical action game with very different gameplay depending on the vehicle type and role. Aside from regular PvP, there are competitive and clan-based modes, special PvE and PvPvE events, and much more. Whether you play to dominate or just enjoy the ride, you'll fit right in.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.

About
World of Tanks offers something for everyone: Try different tactics, vehicles, and modes!
World of Tanks has a unique pace. Its armored vehicles are fast enough to draw you into the action, yet slow enough to give you time to think strategically. Good reflexes are always a plus, but it's smart and bold moves that can really turn the tide of a battle. Identify a weak spot in the enemy team's defense, move to an advantageous position at just the right moment, or ambush an opponent—and you'll feel like a champion.
The unique pace is yours to control: there are five vehicle types that each play very differently. Generally, light tanks rely on their speed and stealth, heavy tanks on their armor, and mediums on versatility. Tank destroyers (TDs) are feared damage dealers, and self-propelled guns (SPGs) hurl shells at enemies from afar, using an RTS-like view. Almost every one of the 800+ highly detailed vehicles, spread over 11 tiers and 11 nations, feels special.
Begin with classic tanks and progress toward mighty high-tier machines. Adjust their performance to better suit your unique playstyle with crew perks, equipment, and Field Modification. Top that off with visual customization: showcase each vehicle's unique flair with custom paints, styles, and a wealth of other options.
World of Tanks has received multiple and extensive upgrades to its graphics and physics since its launch in 2010. The maps feature unique landmarks and plenty of destructible objects. Vehicles get wet when in water, and they receive shell breaches from enemy rounds that penetrate, as well as pockmarks from rounds that bounce off. Guns and shell explosions have authentic, caliber-dependent sounds, and the acoustic environment is very rich, adding to immersion.
The basic mode is 15v15 Random Battles. Prominent regular modes include Onslaught (7v7 with extra special abilities), Frontline (30v30 on colossal maps with lots of tactical options such as airstrikes), and Steel Hunter (battle royale on mode-specific vehicles with field upgrades). On top of that, there are themed PvE and PvP events with unique rewards, clan-only Global Map and clan-based Strongholds, and more!
World of Tanks is hard to master but easy to learn and enjoyable from the get-go. As a rookie, learn the basics from the Bootcamp scenarios, face easier opponents in lower-tier battles, and complete the Tank Academy missions for appealing rewards. A seasoned tanker friend can get you into the Referral Program, bagging great benefits for both of you.

After having been a loyal player of WoT for years on console and PC, I felt betrayed by Wargaming after nearly 12 years of play. The update released on October 7th, 2025 had pushed a full move over to other games like WoW:L and varying games from Gaijin. Players that felt the changes were not necessary left without warning, drastically reducing the player count. I will only return to this if I am paid and compensated for my loss.

It feels the only way to get any xp through a fair battle is through the few PVE battles you get. When you get into the PVP battles, its like an endless gut punch. Its like every player there has been playing for years and going back just to smoke new players. Everyone on their minds doesnt do anything, they just sit around meandering and sniping, leaving the new players to go forward and get a spanking before the rest of the battle is won by whatever team has the lesser amount of new players. SPGs are also a problem. Unless you are extremely patient or just is a pay to win player, researching and playing with SPGs should be no problem. The AI is another problem. You may think that PVE battles shouldnt be too hard, but the only way you can win is by pure luck, hoping whatever side you go towards isnt mastered by the enemy AI sniping anyone trying to move out of cover.
I've played this game on and off since back when it was in beta (in 2010 or so?). Mostly not on the Steam version, which is why I have practically no playtime listed here. Nevertheless, the Steam version is basically just a more limited version account-wise and plays the exact same as through the original WG launcher, so my comments apply equally here. The game has had it's ups and downs over the years, but after the 2.0 update in 2025, I have pretty much quit the game. Following the split of the WOWP economy from WOT in 2026, I've basically lost all incentive to even play WOT. I used to play WOWP to farm resources for WOT but eventually, I enjoyed WOWP more than current state WOT and let the resources flow the opposite way (even though it was a trickle compared to the other way around). It's difficult for me to articulate exactly why I have grown to dislike WOT, but it can basically be summed up as not enjoying the way the game has evolved over time and having no optimism for its future development. The fact I enjoy WOWP more than WOT when development of WOWP has effectively stalled since before 2020 should reflect my impression of the current state and future trajectory of WOT. Based on this experience, I cannot honestly suggest that anyone try putting in any amount of time in this game.
