About
You are one of the three survivors of the slaughter of Castagath. Rescued by Grand Inquisitor Heimlock, you were drafted into the Republic’s Army of the Purifiers at a very young age to be trained in the military academy and become perfect soldiers against the supernatural. You also had the chance to benefit from Heimlock’s occasional advice and training, which led you and your childhood friends, Valeria and Edric, to be called the “Children of Heimlock”.
Recently, the Brotherhood of Dawn has infiltrated the Crimson Keep, a mysterious republican fortress lost among the northern deserts known as the Red wastes. While the purpose of the attack was unclear, the republican Senate voted a retaliation act against all known locations of the Brotherhood.
Led by Grand Inquisitor Heimlock himself, troops are soon deployed on the Coast of wrecks, near the city state of Stormfall, to terminate a camp of Brothers. You are, with your two childhood friends, part of operation Dawnbane, under the supervision of Justicar Maëlys.

Reviews
While I recommend this game, I only recommend when it's on sale. My price was $3, and I consider it well worth the money. I was hesitant to buy this at first. Many reviews were bad, but for $3, the skill tree looked cool. I'm glad I bought it. First, let's understand the hate this game gets. It no longer offers online play, which is bummer. I would have put many more hours on this if I could play with others. Sadly, that era has ended. More deservingly of hate, from what I've read, the company that made the game let down the community by what feels like a failure to complete the game. You can see it in the way the story develops (more about that later), but I wasn't playing for the story. I was playing for the fun and character building. As you play through Act 1-3, you'll realize that this game would have been amazing in it's glory days, and you'll be confused about the negative reviews. Well, you'll understand when Act 4 hits. The story gets thrown out the window and Act 4 progression is basically an end game sampler. I continued to have fun with the game, but the story that was gaining my interest went out the door. With that said, Act 4 was still fun, and the end game is even more fun. Ultimately, I would put tons of hours into this game and recommended it at full price if there was still online play. So, for $3, I recommend this game. I made a dual pistols dude, finished Act 4 and played some endgame. I never felt a great deal of challenge from the game, but I don't need that to have fun. I simply enjoy the character building. Not to mention, in my opinion, they nailed the endgame content. A part of me wants to pour another 20 hours into the game for endgame content, but I think it's time to move on. Pros: +The art direction is kind of cool. Feels a little like Warhammer, and I love those character designs. +A nice spin on the skill tree. Pun intended. +Leveling progression is satisfying. I didn't need a guide to build a playable character. +The story is actually pretty interesting. I usually, skip cut scenes in heavy dialogue fantasy games, but they had me interested in the story. +Wonderful endgame. Some reviews call it roguelike, but I think that's not a good description. It's more like a time loop, and you don't loss much at all when the loop restarts. It's a nice and casual, continue making your character stronger and stronger vibe, with minimal risks. +Switches well between keyboard and controller. Cons -The story is great Acts 1-3, and then they just flush it all down the toilet. The story ends, but it's like the budget ran out and instead of a 12 episode TV season, we get a 90 minute movie that was written by someone's eight year old grandson. -Character building progression never changed my gameplay by any significant means. In other words, I started playing one way, and even though I found some cool skills on the skill tree, nothing really change the way I played. Maybe it's a me problem, but I never found anything significant on the skill tree that was game changing. -The game no longer offers online multiplayer, but it did. -The game was obviously cut short in both story and Acts. It feels like the just slapped on Act 4, which is basically the sample endgame, and told the community, "Yeah. We finished the game. Be happy." Shame. - Random controller glitches. Something content doesn't seem controller friendly. Sadly, that's common with this genre of game. I also experienced frequent input lag. It may have been a controller issue, a glitch, or maybe a feature. IDK. In conclusion, I recommend this game when it's on sale. If there was infinite time in life, I'd play this a few more times. It was fun, and I think you'd have fun with it too.

Every market we collect.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Whether this game is 'good' or not comes down to one thing. What price did you buy it at? Buying for $29.99? ❌ Buying for $2.99? ✅ For $2.99, the cost to value ratio is insanely good. And I like that this is more Grim Dawn than Path of Exile. Not as good as Grim Dawn, but also, not 'disappointing' by any stretch of the imagination for a $2.99 purchase.
Ultimately, I can't recommend Wolcen. In its current state, the game is as finished as it's going to get, bugs and half-baked storyline and all. There's a history here: My understanding is that this game was, at launch, a buggy mess. A very *pretty* buggy mess, but still a mess. The devs made a lot of promises while overestimating the scope of the work to create and fix the game. The released a final patch and then cut and run. They posted a final update in Maty 2024 indicating the shutdown of multiplayer. This may not be a direct scam, but it's a close as you get the classic Early Access tale of a developer not following through. The current state of the game is playable. The story is very engaging, but fizzles out near the end (guessing because they ran out of money) so you get a sudden "six months later" epilogue (which is the endgame) in one of the most pivotal moments of the final act. Combat, mechanics, are okay. Not amazing, I would say feels pretty clunky by PoE2 or D4 standards. If you can get it for $4 and want to play single-player, that's probably worth your time, but right now the most valuable piece of this product is as a cautionary tale and a "Remember Wolcen?" among ARPG fans.
I liked the game for the short time I played, but I buy ARPGs in hopes of playing with friends. This game had coop when I bought it, but somewhere along the line, these scumbags changed it to single player only. They should be forced to give refunds.
I bought this waaaaaay back when on release, but could barely play it because of all the bugs. "That's OK" I thought, "I'll come back in a couple months when the bugs are fixed". I promptly forgot about it, until I was reminded by them putting out some big update. After that released i came and looked at the reviews, only to see that it was still a buggy mess, and none of those had been fixed. Tried a steam refund on the grounds of "I've literally never been able to play the game properly, and I was hoping they'd fix those bugs so I actually could?" But alas they denied it. Fast forward to now, it's been completely abandoned and left in a garbage state. Can't speak for the actual gameplay because I couldn't really experience it, but the rest of the situation is enough for me to say avoid.
I was quite unsure if to buy or not. I´ve heard there were issues with the game in the past and the devs gave up on the game, shut the multiplayer down and only left the single player / campaign mode. I don´t mind it, I like solo gaming. So I bought the game when it was on discount for around 10 euros. Worth the money for sure if you don´t care about multiplayer. The campaign takes around 20 hours to complete if you also watch the cutstcenes, which I did on my first playtrough. The game is casual friendly, not really a punishing, you are allowed to make mistakes. Three times every boss fight as there is a downed state before you die (I guess you lose after the 3 downs, never got that far myself). The attacks are well telegraphed, with plenty of delay for reaction. After the campaign there is some kind of kingdom management thing with ´´mapping´´, which is basically the last part of the campaign repeated. I played some of that, then gave up on the grinding part for now. Most likely will return some time later, just to finish the achievments. If you like PoE, Diablo, LE, GD this is a nice game for the price of a burger, worth it in my opinion.
Trash. I bought this before it was released. All of the promises of a good game. The developer released trash after trash and disrespects its customers. DO NOT BUY.
“Run away from the river to the street And find yourself with your face in the gutter” ~Green Day
Back in 2005, a small team called WildTangent released a tiny little Diablo clone called FATE. The guys already tested their skills in some simpler games and, the most importantly, they knew their limits. They didn't even try making yet another one of those big “Diablo killers” everybody on the market was obsessed with. Instead, they focused on a much more compact experience, threw in some unique ideas (like pets and fishing), and voilà! They got themselves a hit. A niche one, sure, but still, FATE used to be installed on, like, every second laptop out there. Why am I telling you that? Well, because WOLCEN Studio (and yes, the guys literally called themselves after their very first project) was nothing like that. What can I say? There's always gonna be this kind of people. Always. Young devs who, despite not making a single game before in their entire lives (neither of the key figures here had even the slightest role in a video game project before), think they can compete with the big guys. Because clearly, those just didn't have the right ideas. While our guys “clearly” do. What did our guys envision? Well, they wanted an epic saga on an AAA engine, with tons of cutscenes, spectacular views, and tons of things the other popular games are known for. You know how when you ask a kid about what they'll add to their game if they'll ever be able to make one? They just keep listing things they liked in the games they played, saying “and then, and then...” without knowing where to stop. Inexperienced devs? They can be like that too. Usually, there are publishers to say “no”. But guess what? Our guys were too cool for a publisher. They are radical indies (freedom, freedom!~)! So straight to Kickstarter they went. You can actually stop reading here. WOLCEN is yet another one of those Kickstarter games. Kickstarter > Steam Early Access > Abandonment. It's the same old formula again. We've seen it for countless times. The only thing that changes is the excuses. According to our guys, “...we’ve encountered foundational hurdles that prevent further improvements under the existing framework.” That's it. No more support. But OK, despite being abandoned, the game's still on sale, so... *SIGH* Let's take a look. Like I said, the people behind this game simply didn't know where to stop. And while dreaming big, they never really asked themselves “How?”. It was like with that popular meme. “–Who are we?!”, “–Game developers!!!” “–What do we want?!” “–A spectacular ARPG on an AAA engine with tons of the advanced features!!!” “–How are we going to achieve that?!” “–We have no bloody clue!!!”. The engine is a nice proof of that. They chose CryEngine. Even got featured by Crytek in their showcase. I mean, clearly, an FPS-oriented engine is a perfect choice for an ARPG title, right? Right? Well, see the above. It shows exactly how our guys were thinking. They wanted their game to be spectacular. They didn't even try thinking about all the “buts”. Actually, you know what? It's a funny story. I keep saying that this game looks spectacular and it does in a way, but it also... doesn't? I mean, nothing here has a face. And when it does? You wish it didn't. Most of the time the game looks like a generic dark something with nothing special to remember, while when the design actually does have some interesting elements, those are downright stolen from random media. Like, the soldiers here combine the design taken from both the Warhammer and MARVEL's Spider-man. Like, what the heck? Ah, and of course, the enemies are a downright Diablo rip-off. You can't come up with your own juicy baddie, just go steal from BLIZZARD. Who already stole from Games Workshop a lot back in the day. Jaysus... Anyway, back to our game. It's that part when we talk 'bout the gameplay, right? God, give me strength... Unlike WildTangent, WOLCEN Studio wanted everything. Everything the others had and more. The only thing that used to show some moderation was the multiplayer. Which was surprisingly old-school (no store, no seasons, etc., just four players reviving each other). The rest of the stuff? It was just stolen ideas over stolen ideas over stolen ideas (they even stole the bloody pets I mentioned, which feel totally out of place here). And while some of those things are quite universal (like potions from Path of Exile) and some others are actually fit quite well (like the “fight for your life” mechanic from Borderlands), nothing here really works. Even that “fight for your life” thing is feeling so cheap that it's cringey (remember good ol' Sacred 2? That's the stuff). If something, his game's giving me one heck of a cognitive dissonance. Things here look expensive (well, not expensive expensive, but you know what I mean), but they feel like something from those crappy games that utilize an engine's basic assets in order to sell you a scam. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that WOLCEN is a scam. Exactly the opposite, you can see that our dudes did try here. Which... only makes things more sad. If you ever played a properly balanced ARPG, like Diablo II for example, you know how much a tiny little skill alteration can mean. Now, our guys? They went all “Scottish”. Remember that famous Robin Williams' skit about golf? “F*ck croquet! I put the hole hundreds of yards away!”. That's what we've got here with the skill wheel. Yes. The. Skill. Wheel. It's exactly like in Grim Dawn, except you can rotate parts in order to make things even more complicated. The result? Yeah, good luck with that sh*t. And while during the early parts of the game it won't be much of a problem (there's even a so-called story mode for those who just want to see the ending, even though honestly, you won't want that cringey How to Train Your Dragon crap in your life), the final chapter? Well, it's like a whole new game. With some crazy difficulty spikes. Long story short, the big baddie is coming. And you need to prepare. All of a sudden, you're not just walking forward, killing everything on your way; you're in The Elder Scrolls: Blades now. Restoring the town. Because yes, our guys suddenly decided they wanted that too. And, of course, since things are non-linear now, it only adds to the imbalance. But don't worry! There's a big chance you won't need to force yourself through that. Because the game just loves soft-locking itself at the beginning of that chapter. See? Even the game itself doesn't want you to play it. To be completely honest, though, I did like the idea. Dunno why they've decided to make only one chapter that way, but there's certainly something in it. But fighting with clunky mechanics, a lack of balance, game-breaking bugs, and other stuff just for that? I mean, come on. Are we that desperate? And yes, there's more. Like, there's that crafting (ish) system that revolves around the consumables and re-rolls, but why? Why would anyone want to waste their time on it, while everything else in this game is so ridiculously unbalanced and buggy? Heck, up to this day there are still infinite damage exploits that weren't fixed (and, most likely, never will be, since, like I said at the very beginning, the game is completely abandoned now)! No matter how you look at it, the only thing this game's good for is to serve as an example. An example of how not to make games. So, if you're a young developer who's sitting there, thinking about starting to make your own ARPG? Look at the original FATE. Then look at WOLCEN. You'll instantly get why knowing your limits is so important. Not like dreaming big is bad. But one does not wake up one day and say “I'm gonna change the world today!”. Good things require experience. A lesson that WOLCEN Studio learned the hard way. Don't be like them. Learn from other people's mistakes instead. Dixi.
