I am not someone who plays games regularly, neither would I count playing games as a hobby. Because when you were a child, games hit differently, and 20 years later nothing caught my attention or could bring back the feeling or the anticipation. My sister showed me "Who´s Lila?", and we are currently playing this game together. "Who´s Lila?" is an outstanding, complex, fascinating, thrilling, goosebumps initiating piece of art, thank you Mr. Garage Heathen for bringing back the feeling of our childhood :)
Existe gracias a nosotros. ¿Es un fantasma? ¿Un demonio? ¿Un parásito? ¿Un experimento? ¿Una idea? ¿Un concepto? ¿Soy yo?

Good
structurally essentially a hypertext narrative (that is, beyond the sense in which essentially every visual novel or rpg with "routes" is hypertext). invokes common ideas and symbols of old-fashioned occult psychology and more modern online cryptic spaces and interests (e.g ARGs, datamining, old released and redacted documents) to work at an idea which i think ends up mostly well-done. it might be a matter of personal taste but i think its lack of complexity both makes it worse and better in distinct senses. i think it suffers from not being particularly involved - it's not really much of a rabbit-hole, and so leaves the game with a fairly surface-level presentation of its more cryptic elements and therefore really does not cohere with what makes them feel inherently cryptic (grand narratives are left without much to support their grandiosity, revelations are not always particularly as impactful as they should be) - but along different lines, i also think that (ending spoilers)
the complete lack of ultimate complexity is a great way of expressing the fragile nature of the mystery
. probably i wish there was more of a rabbit-hole before the end the visual presentation is quite strong and the game is very good in its opening sections at unsettling you through disjointed presentation. same goes for the sound design and soundtrack i don't have any complaint about them they're a strong accompaniment there are other things i could say but i think they're belabouring the point. my biggest fart sniffing line is that the game is generally more focused on "terminal spaces" than the more conventional liminal space and i think the game is interesting whenever it does that... but it's not entirely accurate
I must make this as clear as I can. Who's Lila? was a magical, wonderful, and overall enchanting game and story. It both haunted, horrified, and wholely entranced me. I beat the entire game and 100%ed it in 8 hours between 11PM and 7AM. The story, the characters, the graphics, the gameplay, it was all amazing. This was my first game of Garage Heathen's and wow, what a game to start on. This was one of those games that, yeah, has some flaws, but it makes you wanna give it a 10/10 anyway.
Overview
Graphics - 9/10, despite not being particularly earth shattering, its dithering and facial expressions made you equally uneasy as you were interested. I think using AI faces was a good choice, as it makes each character feel odd, and Lila feel weirdly human. The faces feel so deeply uncanny yet portray a really good passion of feeling. Gameplay - 9/10, Simple point and clicks are a soft spot for me, but it had First Person, ARG, real websites and account elements, and due to me and the protag sharing the same first name, it put me in his position so much to an extent that it affected me similariy. Audio - 8.5/10, its sounds are nice, crispy, bit crunch sounds, its music is hauntingly peaceful, and the bits of voice and other lines in it absolutely rattled my bones. The Boiler Melody and Field Music particularly stand out to me, and when William says "The name's... Lila", it was, as I said spine chilling. PC Requirements - 10/10, ran at 200fps at 1440p on my mid range gpu and cpu. Good ♥♥♥♥. Difficulty - 8/10, its puzzle elements are top notch and feel very fun, but some routes are a bit hard to get through. As I said though, its one of those experiences where you look past those flaws due to how much it affected you. Story - 11/10, I cannot overstate how absolutely amazing the story was. It broke my mind and even helped me evolve my stance on my beliefs on existence. I can't say everyone will get it, but if you give it a chance, your socks will be blown off. Game Time - 10/10, its about an hour for a surface level playthrough, 5 for a full game, and 10 for 100%. I think that is a perfect amount. Price - Its a deal even if it were 5 bucks more!
Overall - 11/10! Might just be my new fav game!
Honestly, probably the most experimental game I've played so far. It's a great horror game that understands how to build tension well that you'll probably finish in a few hours but it also introduces a lot of concepts I haven't seen in other games. It does the trick a few other horror games do where it requires you to access links and pdf's outside of the game to keep going which is neat though what I found the most interesting is that the story is told through an unreliable narrator that offers another, very uncomfortable perspective on what is consciousness and what being yourself actually means. If you've ever worried about the idea of not existing after death and losing what makes you yourself, the game does an great job of exploring another idea of what might be happening and using it to question and unnerve the player. It'll leave you with a lot of questions.
Tremenda fumada de juego
personally my favourite game, the mechanics are so creative and the lore is really interesting, very underrated and i wish more people knew this game
This game impressed me with its weird, scattered approach to storytelling and the strong occult and psychological themes running through it. The face expression mechanic is genuinely inventive, and at times unexpectedly funny in a strange way. I have a soft spot for dithered, old-school lo-fi visuals, so this game was right up my alley. Some sections can get a bit tedious, especially when you have to react within a certain time frame or replay similar moments for different endings, but overall I loved the vibe, the story, and the time I spent with it. Even after getting most of the endings, I still feel like there are gaps in my understanding of the full story, which I really like. It does not overexplain everything and keeps the mystery alive.
