WHO IS AWESOME, developed and published by AZAMATIKA, is a quirky and fast-paced mini-game compilation that brings together familiar characters from the developer’s previous titles into a compact and humorous package. Players are invited to select a champion from a cast that includes the Reaper from Peace, Death!, Vladimir from DRAW CHILLY, the brave yet bumbling Knight from OH MY GOD, LOOK AT THIS KNIGHT!, and the gunslinging Cowboy from Gun Done. These characters compete in a series of rapid-fire challenges that test reflexes, timing, and a bit of luck, all wrapped in a colorful and cartoonish art style that reflects AZAMATIKA’s signature tone. The gameplay loop is simple but engaging: you pick one character to be “the awesome one,” and the goal is to prove their supremacy through a set of randomized mini-games. Each round takes place around a table where all four characters are present, and the mini-games are introduced with a brief visual cue before throwing the player directly into the action. These games range from reaction-based tests to quick puzzle-like challenges, all lasting only a few seconds but demanding precision and attentiveness. The fast turnover between games keeps the momentum high and ensures that even failure doesn’t feel too punishing, encouraging a “just one more round” mentality. One of the more creative elements in WHO IS AWESOME is the use of themed “rooms,” each offering a slightly different twist on the core format. As players progress, they unlock additional tables and rule sets that subtly alter the game dynamics. While these changes don’t radically transform the gameplay, they provide enough variation to keep things fresh over multiple sessions. There's also a layer of progression tied to unlocking new mini-games and environments, which gives players something to work toward beyond high scores or achievements. The visual presentation leans heavily into pixel art, with expressive characters and vibrant backgrounds. The animations are intentionally exaggerated and comedic, which matches the overall tone of the game. The four main characters are easily distinguishable, and their personalities shine through despite the limited dialogue. The user interface is minimal and intuitive, which is important given the speed and simplicity of the mini-games. There’s no need to navigate through complex menus—everything is designed for quick access and immediate play, which fits well with the game’s casual nature. Audio design in WHO IS AWESOME complements its visual style, offering catchy, upbeat background music and punchy sound effects that enhance the feel of each mini-game. While the soundtrack is not especially varied or complex, it suits the lighthearted tone. The sound effects offer clear feedback, signaling success or failure instantly, which is critical given how little time players have to process each round. There's also a whimsical cat named Juggernaut that occasionally pops up—serving no real gameplay function, but adding another layer of quirky charm to the experience. Despite its strengths, the game is not without limitations. The number of mini-games, while varied enough to entertain over a few sessions, can begin to feel repetitive once the player has seen them all. The single-player format also means there's no competitive multiplayer mode, local or online, which could have added more longevity to the game. Some of the room rules feel more like slight modifiers than true gameplay-altering mechanics, and players seeking deeper strategy or more complex systems may find the simplicity a bit shallow. However, given the game’s modest price point and intended audience, these shortcomings are forgivable. Ultimately, WHO IS AWESOME succeeds in delivering a light and entertaining experience that doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s a celebration of AZAMATIKA’s character roster and game worlds, reimagined in a new context that feels both accessible and amusing. It’s not meant to be a deep or long-lasting experience, but as a short burst of fun—whether to kill time or simply enjoy a few chaotic rounds—it absolutely achieves its goal. For fans of the developer’s previous games or anyone looking for a budget-friendly indie title with charm and personality, WHO IS AWESOME is a worthwhile addition to the library. Rating: 9/10
