About
Experience the tale of a cheerful girl and a grouchy talking hat in this charming Metroidvania, where every ability is hat-based! Throw the hat to attack enemies, teleport to him to make perilous leaps, and fly him through narrow tunnels of spikes as you escape a dangerous magic forest.
Playing with a keyboard and mouse is recommended for the best experience, as it supports 360° aiming, allowing you to throw the hat wherever you wish!
Brave rooms that have all been thoughtfully designed to be challenging and interesting—including both tricky platforming and heart-pumping enemy encounters. They will test your familiarity and mastery of your abilities, so leap, throw, and teleport to victory!
In addition to the usual Metroidvania secrets behind breakable walls, Whirlwind Magician features outside-the-box ways to use your abilities as well as secret ones that will open up shortcuts and change how you approach the game, inspired by popular speedrunning titles like Super Metroid.
Play as Viola—a cheerful and brave young girl who wants to become a magician, and Gibson—a grouchy and cautious talking hat who is reluctantly helping Viola find her way home. Watch their friendship grow as they bicker, argue, and learn to get along with their contrasting personalities.

A fun little adventure well worth its price tag. As someone who struggles to complete traditional metroidvanias, the shorter runtime was a welcome breath of fresh air to the genre. The story is adorable, I really enjoyed watching the two main characters become friends over the course of the game and loved seeing them bring out the best qualities in each other. Immediately after beating this game for the first time, I booted up a new save file and beat it again, this time with 100% completion. I can confidently recommend Whirlwind Magician to anybody who likes good video games and am looking forward to seeing whatever Santi Ponce does next.
Great little game. if your looking for a fun 1-2 hour experience then this is for you.

Fun micro-vania with an interesting teleport mechanic- great value for $3.
cute
nice
Cute little game with fun dashing mechanic. Final boss was a pretty big step up in difficulty, but managed to get through after a lot of pulls.
Short but sweet and the end boss has quite the varied pattern making it a lot of fun to fight, though it is a little tanky if you aren't being overly aggressive to hit it as often as you can. Checkpoints are plentiful. Secrets aren't too hard to find but getting to them all is another matter. Hoping for a sequel!
Played on OG 512 steam deck without issues. First impression was not very good but within 15 min or so it really started to glow and about 30 minutes in it started to shine and it’s a brilliant game, controls well and love the graphics over all. It’s super affordable and a must buy. Hat mechanics are so good. Hats off to the dev!
A simple little metroidvania. I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. The overall mechanics feed into each other pretty well and, while I'll admit the ruins area could be a lil rage inducing near the end, everything was working as intended. Story is also charming, if a lil barebones. Honestly, could reasonable see this being a nice game for younger audiences too, though don't quote me on that.
I'm very impressed! As a proof of concept, Whirlwind Magician is completely successful. The central mechanic of throwing the hat is fun, versatile, and finely tuned for such a simple game. The art and animations are delightful, and better yet, they showcase the promising talent of the solo developer. The relationship between the two leads develops perfectly over a short time, demonstrating Santi Ponce's grasp on the fundamentals of storytelling. As much as I enjoyed this game, I am even more excited to see what comes next. I recommend it to all indie lovers, and I congratulate its talented developer!
